Fosroc Nitoprime DG
Clear, fast-drying silane-siloxane/acrylic conditioning primer that stabilises porous concrete and seals capillaries before Dekguard protective coatings are applied.
What is it?
A low-viscosity, clear reactive primer that blends silane-siloxane with an acrylic resin in a penetrating organic carrier. It soaks into porous concrete and masonry, consolidates a weak or dusty surface, and forms a chemically bound hydrophobic barrier that resists water, chloride and sulphate ingress.
Where is it used?
Used as the dedicated primer coat beneath Fosroc Dekguard anti-carbonation and protective coatings (notably Dekguard E2000 and Dekguard Elastic) on RCC structures, bridges, flyovers, facades, water tanks, chimneys and coastal/industrial buildings across India.
Why use it?
It locks down friable, chalky or porous concrete so the topcoat bonds reliably, while its hydrophobic action helps keep moisture, chloride and sulphate ions out of the substrate. Being fast drying, it lets the Dekguard topcoat follow quickly and keeps protective-coating programmes on schedule.
How is it applied?
Apply by brush, roller or airless spray onto sound, clean, prepared concrete in one or more coats until the surface is uniformly conditioned. Allow the recommended overcoating interval (around 2 hours at 20 degrees C) before applying the chosen Dekguard topcoat. Do not start if substrate temperature is below 2 degrees C.
About Fosroc Nitoprime DG
Fosroc Nitoprime DG is the purpose-made conditioning primer in Fosroc’s Dekguard protective-coating system. It is supplied as a clear, low-viscosity liquid based on a reactive silane-siloxane blended with an acrylic resin and dissolved in a penetrating organic carrier. On contact with a porous cementitious surface it does two jobs at once: the acrylic component forms a thin film that binds and consolidates loose, dusty or weak laitance at the surface, while the reactive silane-siloxane fraction penetrates and chemically bonds to the substrate to create a water-repellent (hydrophobic) zone. The combined effect is a stabilised, sealed and dimensionally consistent surface that a Dekguard topcoat can grip uniformly.
In Indian field conditions, concrete facades, soffits, parapets and water-retaining structures are routinely attacked by carbonation, chloride-laden coastal air, monsoon-driven moisture and sulphate-rich soils and effluents. Protective anti-carbonation and elastomeric coatings such as Dekguard E2000 and Dekguard Elastic are specified to slow this deterioration, but their long-term performance depends heavily on the quality of the surface they are applied to. A green, dusty, slightly chalky or highly absorptive concrete surface can starve the topcoat of bond and lead to patchy adhesion, pinholing or early peeling. Nitoprime DG exists to remove that risk: it primes and “tunes” the surface so the Dekguard layer behaves as designed.
For a distributor-led project in Delhi NCR or elsewhere in India, the practical value of Nitoprime DG is twofold. First, it is the manufacturer-recommended primer, so using it keeps the coating build-up fully within Fosroc’s warranted system rather than mixing in a generic primer of unknown compatibility. Second, because it is fast drying, the priming and topcoating sequence can usually be completed within a single shift, which matters on bridges, elevated structures and live industrial plants where access time is limited and costly.
Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor, supplies Nitoprime DG alongside the Dekguard topcoats, surface-preparation products and repair mortars needed to deliver the complete protective-coating specification rather than a single line item.
The technical insight
The defining feature of Nitoprime DG is that it is a dual-action primer, not a simple sealer. The acrylic resin provides immediate film formation and surface consolidation, binding the weak top micro-layer of the concrete, while the silane-siloxane is reactive and hydrophobic: silanes are small enough to penetrate fine capillaries and react to form a water-repellent silicone-resin network bonded to the silica in the substrate, and siloxanes build a more substantial water-repellent layer. Together they reduce capillary uptake of water and the chloride and sulphate ions carried in it, without forming a vapour-impermeable skin that would trap moisture behind the coating. This is why it is paired with breathable, water-based Dekguard anti-carbonation coatings rather than rigid impermeable films. The carrier is a penetrating organic solvent, so the product is moisture-sensitive on the wet side and temperature-sensitive on the cold side, which is why application is barred below a 2 degrees C substrate temperature and why genuinely sound, dry, contamination-free concrete is essential for the reactive chemistry to bond.
Where it is used
- Priming sound, prepared concrete and masonry before Fosroc Dekguard E2000 anti-carbonation coating
- Priming before Dekguard Elastic crack-bridging elastomeric coating on cracked or movement-prone substrates
- Consolidating dusty, chalky or slightly friable concrete surfaces so a protective topcoat bonds reliably
- Establishing a hydrophobic surface zone to slow chloride and sulphate ingress on coastal and industrial structures
- Surface conditioning of RCC bridges, flyovers, elevated corridors and parapets prior to protective coating
- Pre-coating treatment of facades, soffits, columns and external walls on commercial and residential buildings
- Priming concrete on water-retaining and effluent-exposed structures within the Dekguard protective system
Key advantages
- Fast drying, with overcoating in roughly 2 hours at 20 degrees C, keeping coating programmes on schedule
- Clear, low-viscosity liquid that penetrates readily and does not discolour the substrate
- Dual action: consolidates and stabilises porous or dusty surfaces while creating a hydrophobic barrier
- Helps inhibit ingress of water, chloride and sulphate ions, supporting reinforcement protection
- Purpose-designed and manufacturer-recommended primer for the Dekguard system, ensuring topcoat compatibility
- Applied by brush, roller or airless spray, suiting both small repairs and large structural areas
- Suitable for internal and external use on a wide variety of structures
Limitations & considerations
- Not a standalone protective coating; it must be overcoated with a Dekguard topcoat to deliver durability
- Performance depends on sound, clean, dry and properly prepared concrete free of laitance, dust, oil and curing compounds
- Must not be applied if the substrate temperature is below 2 degrees C
- Solvent-carrier product, so adequate ventilation and standard solvent-handling precautions are required during application
- Overcoating intervals and coverage must be respected; over- or under-application can affect topcoat bond
- Coverage varies with substrate porosity and texture, so on rough or very absorptive concrete more than one coat may be needed
- Specifically formulated for use with water-based Dekguard coatings rather than as a universal primer for all coating systems
Selection & best practice
Prepare the concrete first: remove laitance, dust, curing compounds, oil and any unsound material by grit blasting, high-pressure water jetting or mechanical means, and make good defects with the appropriate Fosroc repair mortar before priming. Confirm the substrate is sound, clean and dry and that its temperature is above 2 degrees C. Stir the primer and apply Nitoprime DG by brush, roller or airless spray in one or more coats until the surface is uniformly conditioned, paying attention to highly absorptive areas that may pull in primer unevenly. Respect the overcoating window (about 2 hours at 20 degrees C, longer in cooler weather) and apply the specified Dekguard E2000 or Dekguard Elastic topcoat before the surface can be re-contaminated by dust or moisture. In hot Indian conditions, schedule work for cooler parts of the day to control flash-off, keep containers closed, ensure good ventilation, and always follow the current Fosroc TDS and SDS plus site safety requirements.

How we position Fosroc Nitoprime DG
Nitoprime DG sits specifically as the primer layer of the Fosroc Dekguard protective-coating system and is best specified together with Dekguard E2000 (anti-carbonation) or Dekguard Elastic (crack-bridging elastomeric) topcoats; for the full corrosion-protection scope it is often used alongside Fosroc repair mortars such as the Renderoc and Nitomortar ranges and, where reinforcement is exposed, Nitoprime Zincrich primer on the steel. Within the Fosroc waterproofing-and-repair portfolio it should not be confused with admixtures or membrane systems; its role is narrow but important. Compared with competitor systems, the equivalent positioning is held by Sika’s Sikagard primers under Sikagard anti-carbonation coatings, by MBS/MYK and STP protective-coating primers, and at the proprietary/retail end by Dr. Fixit surface conditioners. Those alternatives can be technically valid within their own systems, but the honest recommendation is to keep the primer and topcoat from the same manufacturer: pairing Nitoprime DG with Dekguard preserves Fosroc’s warranted compatibility, whereas substituting a primer from another brand introduces adhesion and durability risk and may invalidate the system guarantee.
