What is it?

Renderoc HB60 is a single-component (just add water), polymer-modified, cementitious high-build repair mortar from Fosroc’s Renderoc concrete-repair range. The 60 in the name denotes its headline feature: it can be built up to roughly 60 mm in a single pass on vertical faces without formwork, making it a true high-build patch-repair and reprofiling mortar for damaged reinforced concrete.

Where is it used?

Concrete rehabilitation work where sound profile and steel protection must be restored on vertical and overhead surfaces, columns, beams, soffits, facades, water-retaining and marine-exposed structures, bridges, car parks and industrial RCC elements, typically as part of an EN 1504 / IS 13935 repair sequence.

Why use it?

It lets a contractor reinstate deep concrete loss in fewer lifts, with low permeability to water, chloride and carbon dioxide that re-passivates and protects the rebar, plus shrinkage compensation for long-term bond. Fewer cold joints, less formwork, and consistent factory-blended quality versus site-batched mortar.

How is it applied?

Surfaces are saw-cut, broken out to expose and clean corroded steel, the rebar is primed with Nitoprime Zincrich and the substrate with Nitobond HAR, then HB60 is mixed with clean water in a forced-action mixer and trowel- or spray-applied, finished, and cured with Nitobond AR or a Concure membrane.

About Fosroc Renderoc HB60

Fosroc Renderoc HB60 is a member of the Renderoc family of concrete repair mortars, the global Fosroc range used for structural and non-structural reinstatement of damaged reinforced concrete. Like its siblings, it is supplied as a ready-to-use, pre-bagged blend of dry powders based on Portland cement, graded aggregates, lightweight fillers and chemical additives, polymer-modified so the wet mortar handles well at a low water demand and the hardened mortar develops low permeability and good thermal compatibility with the parent concrete. On site, the contractor only needs to add clean water, which removes the batch-to-batch variation that plagues site-mixed sand-cement render and gives a predictable, specification-grade repair.\n\nThe defining characteristic of HB60, and the reason for its name, is high build. Within the Renderoc HB series, Fosroc designates products by the single-application build thickness they support; HB60 is engineered to be placed up to about 60 mm thick on vertical surfaces in one application without formwork, with reduced thickness overhead. In practice that means a repair crew can reinstate a deeply spalled column face or a beam soffit that has lost cover to carbonation or chloride attack in far fewer lifts than a conventional mortar, cutting both labour and the number of cold joints in the repair. Greater depths are achieved by building up in layers or, on large areas, by wet spraying. The minimum applied thickness is around 10 mm, so HB60 is a profile-restoration and patch-repair mortar rather than a thin skim or fairing coat.\n\nBecause it is alkaline and polymer-rich, the cured mortar does two jobs at once: it rebuilds the lost concrete section and it re-establishes a protective, low-permeability environment around the embedded steel, severely retarding the ingress of waterborne chlorides, carbon dioxide and oxygen that drive further corrosion. Combined with a zinc-rich rebar primer and a bonding primer, HB60 forms part of a complete Fosroc repair system rather than a stand-alone product. For Indian projects, Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies HB60 within a properly specified EN 1504 / IS-based repair methodology, so that the patch and the surrounding structure are brought to a common protective standard.

The technical insight

The engineering logic of HB60 sits in the trade-off triangle of every repair mortar: build thickness, sag resistance, strength and permeability. To hang 60 mm of wet mortar on a vertical face without it sliding off, Fosroc uses a thixotropic, polymer-modified, lightweight-filled matrix with a deliberately low water:powder ratio (the Renderoc HB family is characterised at around 0.18). That low water demand is what gives the hardened mortar its low capillary porosity, and therefore its low permeability to chlorides and CO2, the single most important durability property in a corrosion repair. The polymer also improves the mortar-to-substrate bond and reduces elastic modulus mismatch, so the patch strains with the parent concrete instead of debonding. Shrinkage compensation is built into the formulation to keep the repair dimensionally stable and the bond line intact as it cures. The practical consequence for a specifier is that HB60 should be selected when the dominant requirement is durable, high-build reprofiling and rebar protection on formwork-free vertical and overhead geometry, and where the structural compressive demand is moderate rather than the absolute highest; for the very highest-strength structural repairs (R4-class), a denser product such as Renderoc HBS is the family’s heavyweight option, while thinner cosmetic work is better served by a fairing coat like Renderoc FC.

Where it is used

  • Reinstating spalled and delaminated cover concrete on RCC columns, beams and walls after carbonation- or chloride-induced corrosion
  • High-build vertical patch repairs up to ~60 mm in a single pass without formwork
  • Overhead and soffit repairs to beams, slabs and balconies where lightweight, sag-resistant build is essential
  • Facade and external concrete restoration on multi-storey and heritage RCC buildings
  • Repair of water-retaining and marine/coastal structures exposed to chlorides
  • Bridge, flyover and elevated-corridor concrete rehabilitation
  • Car park, ramp and industrial structure repairs (non-trafficked vertical/overhead elements)
  • Reprofiling around exposed and cleaned reinforcement as part of an EN 1504 / IS 13935 repair system

Key advantages

  • High single-pass build (up to ~60 mm vertical) reduces the number of lifts, cold joints and overall repair time
  • Single-component, pre-bagged and just-add-water, eliminating site-batching variation
  • Polymer modification gives very low permeability to water, chloride ions and carbon dioxide, protecting embedded steel
  • Frequently removes the need for formwork on vertical and overhead repairs
  • Shrinkage-compensated for long-term dimensional stability and durable bond
  • Can be trowel-applied or wet-sprayed for fast placement on large areas
  • Alkaline matrix helps re-passivate and protect reinforcement
  • Part of a complete Fosroc system (Nitoprime Zincrich, Nitobond HAR/EP, Nitobond AR, Dekguard) for a fully specified repair

Limitations & considerations

  • Not a thin-section product, minimum applied thickness is around 10 mm, so it is unsuitable for fairing/cosmetic skims (use Renderoc FC instead)
  • Lightweight high-build formulations are not intended for trafficked horizontal surfaces, use a flowable/structural product such as Renderoc S/LA for floors
  • Should not be applied below ~5 degrees C and falling, or exposed to moving water or heavy rainfall before final set (risk of surface scour)
  • Cement-based, so it requires correct substrate saturation, priming and immediate curing to develop its properties; poor mixing or curing reduces performance
  • For the highest-strength structural (R4) repairs, a denser mortar such as Renderoc HBS is more appropriate
  • Exact HB60 strength/coverage figures must be taken from the current local Fosroc TDS for the project’s region before specification

Selection & best practice

Treat HB60 as one step in a system, not a one-bag fix. Saw-cut the repair perimeter to at least 10 mm to avoid feather-edging, break out to sound concrete, and grit-blast all exposed reinforcement to bright metal, paying attention to the back of the bars. Prime cleaned steel with one (and if in doubt, two) coats of Nitoprime Zincrich and let it dry. Bring the concrete substrate to a saturated-surface-dry condition, scrub in Nitobond HAR, and apply HB60 while the primer is still tacky. Mix only full bags in a forced-action mixer (never free-fall) by adding powder to the measured water, and respect the maximum water content so you do not lose strength or sag resistance. Build vertical sections up to the rated thickness in one pass, or layer with a scratch-keyed, Nitobond-AR-cured intermediate surface for greater depth. Cure immediately and continuously with Nitobond AR or a Concure membrane, protecting from rapid drying, rain and frost, then overcoat the wider structure with a Dekguard anti-carbonation coating so the repair and the surrounding concrete share the same protective standard. Always confirm the exact mix water, yield and strength values against the current region-specific Fosroc TDS for the batch supplied.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fosroc Renderoc HB60 a real product, and what does the 60 mean?
Yes. Renderoc HB60 is a genuine Fosroc product in the Renderoc concrete-repair range, with its own page on fosroc.com. Within the Renderoc HB series Fosroc names grades by single-application build thickness, so HB60 indicates the mortar can be built up to roughly 60 mm thick on vertical surfaces in one application without formwork.
How is HB60 different from plain Renderoc HB, HB30 or HBS?
They are all polymer-modified high-build repair mortars in the same family but tuned differently. Standard Renderoc HB is the lightweight R2 workhorse for medium strength and very high build; numbered grades like HB30/HB60 sit higher on strength/build; and Renderoc HBS is the high-strength R4 option for the most demanding structural repairs. HB60’s positioning is high-build vertical/overhead reprofiling with durable rebar protection. Always confirm the exact R-class and strengths on the current local TDS.
What thickness can I apply in one coat, and is formwork needed?
On vertical faces HB60 is engineered for up to about 60 mm in a single application without formwork; overhead build is lower. Below 10 mm it is not suitable, and for greater depths you either build up in scratch-keyed, cured layers or wet-spray the material.
Does HB60 protect the reinforcement, or just fill the hole?
Both. The alkaline, polymer-modified matrix has low permeability to chlorides, CO2 and water, which re-establishes a protective environment around the steel. When used with a zinc-rich Nitoprime Zincrich primer on the cleaned rebar and a Dekguard coating on the surrounding concrete, it forms a complete corrosion-protection repair, not just a cosmetic patch.
Which primers, curing and finishing products do I need with it?
Prime exposed steel with Nitoprime Zincrich, prime the saturated-surface-dry substrate with Nitobond HAR (or Nitobond EP for immersed/permanently damp conditions), apply and finish HB60, then cure immediately with Nitobond AR or a Concure membrane. Overcoat the wider structure with a Dekguard anti-carbonation coating for matched durability.
Can Space Arc Engineering supply HB60 and execute the repair in India?
Yes. Space Arc Engineering is an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator covering Delhi NCR and Pan-India. We can supply HB60 and the full companion system, share the current region-specific TDS for verified strength and coverage figures, and carry out the specified EN 1504 / IS 13935 repair sequence on site.

How we position Fosroc Renderoc HB60

Renderoc HB60 sits in the high-build vertical and overhead concrete-repair tier of Fosroc’s Renderoc range and is best understood alongside its siblings: standard Renderoc HB (the lightweight EN 1504-3 R2 mortar for medium strength and very high build), Renderoc HB30 (an R3 grade), and Renderoc HBS (the high-strength R4 option for the most demanding structural repairs); for thin cosmetic finishing you move to a fairing coat such as Renderoc FC, and for trafficked or flowable horizontal repairs to Renderoc S/LA. In every case the mortar is paired with the same system, Nitoprime Zincrich for the rebar, Nitobond HAR/EP for bonding, Nitobond AR or Concure for curing, and Dekguard for anti-carbonation overcoating, which is one of Fosroc’s genuine strengths versus single-product purchases. Among credible alternatives an Indian specifier will reasonably evaluate Sika’s MonoTop high-build repair mortars (e.g. MonoTop-412/612), MBS/MYK Schomburg repair systems, Dr. Fixit Pidicrete and concrete-repair mortars, and STP (Shalimar/STP) repair products, which occupy comparable EN 1504-3 R-class niches. Fosroc’s edge in this segment is the maturity and site familiarity of the Renderoc-Nitobond-Dekguard system among Indian applicators and consultants; the honest caveat is that published HB60 strength and coverage values vary by region, so the right grade should always be confirmed against the current local Fosroc TDS for the project. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator in Delhi NCR and Pan-India, can advise on the correct grade, supply the full system, and execute the repair to specification.
