What is it?

Renderoc RFC is a ready-to-use, single-component, polymer-modified cementitious mortar from Fosroc. It is supplied as a pre-blended dry powder needing only clean water on site, and is used as a fairing/finishing coat and surface-repair mortar for concrete and masonry.

Where is it used?

Used on RCC and masonry across India for blinding honeycombing, making good mortar and plaster surfaces, levelling thin-layer plaster, and preparing fair-faced concrete before protective or decorative coatings.

Why use it?

It bonds strongly to concrete and mortar substrates, is thixotropic so it does not slump on vertical and overhead work, trowels smoothly thanks to a built-in workability additive, and needs no separate site-added polymer.

How is it applied?

Mix the powder with the recommended clean water to a smooth thixotropic mortar, apply onto a pre-wetted, saturated-surface-dry substrate by trowel in thin lifts, finish, and cure as a cementitious mortar.

About Fosroc Renderoc RFC

Fosroc Renderoc RFC sits within the well-established Renderoc family of concrete-repair and rendering mortars, where it plays the role of a fairing and surface-finishing mortar rather than a deep structural patch. As an authorised Fosroc distributor serving Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc Engineering positions Renderoc RFC as the product you reach for when a concrete or masonry surface is structurally sound but cosmetically and texturally imperfect: shutter-faced concrete pocked with honeycombing and blowholes, mortar beds that need truing up, and walls that require a thin, even skim before a protective or decorative coating is applied.\n\nThe product is a single-component, polymer-modified cementitious mortar. Polymer modification is the defining feature of the Renderoc range and is what separates these mortars from ordinary sand-cement plaster: the polymer improves adhesion to the parent concrete, reduces water and gas permeability, and gives the cured layer better flexibility and durability. Because Renderoc RFC is pre-blended and pre-bagged at the factory, the polymer and the workability-control additives are already dosed into the powder. The site team adds only clean water, which removes the site-batching variability that plagues hand-mixed renders and gives consistent, repeatable results from bag to bag.\n\nTwo practical characteristics make Renderoc RFC well suited to Indian site conditions. First, it is thixotropic, which means it holds its shape on vertical and overhead surfaces without spillage or slumping, so applicators can build a clean fairing coat overhead and on columns and soffits. Second, the workability-control additive allows mild, low-effort trowelling, which speeds up large fair-facing operations and reduces the skill threshold for getting a smooth, closed surface. The cured mortar is described by Fosroc as offering excellent surface abrasion resistance, which is valuable where the faired surface will be exposed to handling, foot traffic on horizontal repairs, or wind-borne abrasion before overcoating.\n\nIt is important to frame Renderoc RFC honestly. It is a fairing-coat and thin-layer mortar, not a high-build structural repair material and not a waterproofing membrane. For deep section loss, reinforcement-corrosion repair, or structural reinstatement, the heavier Renderoc mortars (such as Renderoc HB, Renderoc S or the micro-concrete grades) are the correct choice. Renderoc RFC is the finishing layer in that system, or a standalone solution for cosmetic and thin-section work. Space Arc supplies it alongside the appropriate primers, repair mortars and protective coatings so the whole repair build-up is compatible.

The technical insight

The engineering logic of Renderoc RFC is the polymer-modified cementitious binder. Ordinary cement render relies purely on mechanical keying and cement hydration for adhesion, which is why thin sand-cement skims so often debond, craze and dust off concrete. Adding a polymer (typically a redispersible polymer powder co-blended into the dry mix) forms a continuous polymer film through the cured matrix as the water leaves. That film does three things at once: it dramatically improves wet-and-dry bond to the substrate, it bridges the micro-cracking that thin cementitious layers are prone to, and it tightens the pore structure so the layer resists water, carbon dioxide and chloride ingress far better than plain mortar. For a fairing coat whose entire job is to be thin, defect-free and a durable base for a coating, that low-permeability, high-bond behaviour is exactly what matters. The thixotropy is a rheological design choice: shear-thinning during trowelling, then rapid structure rebuild at rest, so the freshly placed mortar grips a vertical or overhead surface instead of sagging. Because it is single-component and pre-dosed, the polymer-to-cement and additive ratios are fixed at the factory, so field performance does not depend on an operative correctly measuring a separate liquid polymer on site.

Where it is used

  • Blinding and infilling honeycombing, blowholes and surface voids on shutter-faced RCC
  • Surface treatment and making-good of mortar and plaster surfaces to a fair, even finish
  • Thin-layer plaster and fairing mortar over concrete and masonry
  • Preparing fair-faced concrete surfaces as a smooth base before protective or decorative coatings
  • Cosmetic levelling of minor surface imperfections on columns, beams, soffits and walls
  • Finishing coat over heavier Renderoc structural repair mortars to achieve a uniform, coat-ready surface

Key advantages

  • Single-component and pre-bagged – needs only clean water, with no separately measured site-added polymer or additive
  • Excellent bond to concrete and mortar substrates for durable, debond-resistant thin layers
  • Thixotropic consistency holds shape on vertical and overhead surfaces without slumping or spillage
  • Built-in workability-control additive allows mild, low-effort trowelling and a smooth closed finish
  • Good surface abrasion resistance on the cured fairing coat
  • Polymer modification reduces permeability, improving durability of the finished surface
  • Factory-blended for batch-to-batch consistency, removing site-mixing variability
  • Backed in Delhi NCR and Pan-India by Space Arc Engineering as an authorised Fosroc distributor

Limitations & considerations

  • A fairing/thin-layer mortar – not intended for high-build, deep-section or load-bearing structural repairs (use Renderoc HB, Renderoc S or micro-concrete grades for those)
  • Not a waterproofing membrane or a decorative topcoat – usually requires an appropriate protective/decorative coating over it
  • Requires a sound, clean, saturated-surface-dry substrate; performance suffers on loose, dusty, oily or laitance-covered surfaces
  • Cementitious mortar that needs proper curing – in hot, dry or windy Indian conditions it must be protected from rapid moisture loss to avoid crazing
  • Best applied within stated thin-layer build limits; excessive single-pass thickness should be avoided
  • Exact technical figures (strengths, coverage, thickness limits, water demand) must be confirmed against the current region-specific Fosroc TDS before specification

Selection & best practice

Begin with substrate preparation, which governs the result more than anything else. Remove all loose material, dust, curing compounds, oil and surface laitance, exposing a sound, clean substrate; mechanical preparation (grit blasting or light scabbling) gives the best key. Pre-wet the surface thoroughly and bring it to a saturated-surface-dry (SSD) condition – damp but with no standing water – before applying, so the dry concrete does not pull mix water out of the thin mortar. Mix with clean water at the dosage stated on the bag/TDS, using a slow-speed drill and paddle, to a smooth, lump-free thixotropic consistency, and mix only what can be applied within the working time. Apply by trowel in thin, controlled lifts, firmly pressing the first contact layer into the substrate to wet out the surface and ensure bond, then build and close the surface. Finish to the texture required by the subsequent coating. Critically, cure as a cementitious mortar: in Delhi NCR summers and on exposed elevations, protect freshly applied work from sun, wind and rapid drying using curing membrane, damp hessian or fine mist to prevent plastic-shrinkage crazing. Always allow proper cure before overcoating, and verify the application against the current India TDS – Space Arc’s technical team can supply the datasheet and advise on the full compatible repair-and-protect system.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is Fosroc Renderoc RFC used for?
It is a single-component, polymer-modified cementitious fairing and surface-repair mortar. Its main jobs are blinding honeycombing and surface voids on concrete, making good and truing up mortar surfaces, and applying thin-layer plaster to leave a smooth, even, coating-ready finish on concrete and masonry.
Is Renderoc RFC a structural repair mortar?
No. It is a fairing-coat and thin-layer finishing mortar, not a high-build or load-bearing structural repair material. For deep section loss, corrosion-damaged reinforcement or structural reinstatement, use heavier Renderoc grades such as Renderoc HB, Renderoc S or a micro-concrete, and use Renderoc RFC as the finishing layer.
Do I need to add a separate polymer or admixture on site?
No. Renderoc RFC is pre-blended with its polymer and workability additives at the factory, so the site team adds only clean water at the recommended dosage. This removes site-batching variation and gives consistent results bag to bag.
Can it be applied overhead and on vertical surfaces?
Yes. Renderoc RFC is thixotropic, so it holds its shape on vertical and overhead surfaces without slumping or spillage, which makes it practical for columns, walls and soffits.
What surface preparation does Renderoc RFC need?
The substrate must be sound, clean and free of dust, oil, curing compounds and laitance, and brought to a saturated-surface-dry (damp, no standing water) condition before application. Good preparation is the single biggest factor in achieving a durable, well-bonded fairing coat.
How is Renderoc RFC different from Renderoc FC?
Both are polymer-modified cementitious fairing coats in the same Fosroc family and overlap heavily in purpose. They are essentially regional/range variants for thin-layer fairing, honeycomb blinding and surface finishing. Space Arc can confirm which designation and pack are current in your region and supply the matching technical datasheet.

How we position Fosroc Renderoc RFC

Within the Fosroc concrete-repair system, Renderoc RFC is the thin-layer fairing and finishing mortar, not the structural workhorse. For deeper repairs it pairs with Renderoc HB (high-build vertical/overhead), Renderoc S (general-purpose repair) or the Renderoc micro-concrete/grout grades, and it is typically overcoated with a Fosroc protective or anti-carbonation coating such as the Dekguard range; Nitobond polymer bonding aids and Nitoprime primers may be used in the broader build-up. It is closely related to Renderoc FC, the other fairing coat in the family. Against competitors, the equivalent fairing/repair mortars include Sika MonoTop and Sika Top fairing and repair mortars, MBS (MYK) repair mortars, Dr. Fixit Pidicrete/repair-mortar systems, and STP (Sika/STP) cementitious repair products – all of which offer comparable polymer-modified fairing and surface-finishing options. Renderoc RFC competes on its single-component convenience, strong bond and thixotropy, and on the technical and supply support that Space Arc Engineering provides as an authorised Fosroc distributor in Delhi NCR and Pan-India. The honest selection rule: choose Renderoc RFC for cosmetic fairing, honeycomb blinding and thin-layer finishing on sound substrates, and step up to a structural repair mortar where section loss or reinforcement protection is involved.
