Fosroc Renderoc SF
Polymer-modified, fibre-reinforced reinstatement mortar with compensated shrinkage for durable hand-applied concrete repairs on vertical and overhead surfaces.
What is it?
A single-component, cement-based concrete repair mortar that is polymer-modified and fibre-reinforced, formulated with compensated shrinkage and thermal compatibility with the parent concrete.
Where is it used?
Reinstatement of spalled, cracked or carbonation-damaged reinforced concrete in buildings, bridges, water tanks, basements and industrial structures across India.
Why use it?
It bonds tightly to concrete, resists shrinkage cracking over large patches, and can be trowel-applied to vertical faces and soffits without shuttering, cutting repair time and cost.
How is it applied?
Saw-cut and break out defective concrete, expose and clean reinforcement, apply Fosroc primer/bond coat, then trowel Renderoc SF in controlled lifts and cure.
About Fosroc Renderoc SF
Fosroc Renderoc SF is a high-resistance, single-component concrete reinstatement mortar used to make permanent structural repairs to damaged reinforced concrete and masonry. It belongs to Fosroc’s well-known Renderoc family of repair mortars, and its formulation pairs a cementitious base with polymer modification and fibre reinforcement. That combination is what gives the product its two defining characteristics: compensated (controlled) shrinkage and good thermal compatibility with the parent concrete, both of which are essential if a patch repair is to last for decades rather than crack and debond within a few seasons.
In Indian conditions, concrete distress is rarely cosmetic. Chloride ingress in coastal Mumbai and Chennai, carbonation in dense urban Delhi NCR, leaking water tanks, and poorly cured slabs all lead to reinforcement corrosion, which expands and spalls the cover concrete. Renderoc SF is designed precisely for this reinstatement work, the rebuilding of the lost concrete section after corroded steel has been cleaned and protected. Because it is fibre-reinforced and shrinkage-compensated, relatively large surface areas can be reinstated in a single repair zone with a much lower risk of the map-cracking that plagues ordinary sand-cement mortar.
A practical advantage of Renderoc SF is that it is engineered for hand application without formwork. The material holds on vertical surfaces in lifts of up to around 50 mm and on overhead soffits and ceilings at roughly 15 to 20 mm per pass. This non-sag, trowel-friendly behaviour means a repair crew can rebuild a corroded column face, a beam edge or a slab soffit directly with a trowel, avoiding the time, cost and access difficulty of building shutters. For the contractor working on an occupied building or a live bridge, that translates into faster turnaround and less disruption.
As an authorised Fosroc distributor serving Delhi NCR and the wider Pan-India market, Space Arc Engineering positions Renderoc SF as a dependable general-purpose member of the Renderoc range, a sensible choice where a robust, polymer-and-fibre-modified patch repair is needed but the extreme high-build thickness or sprayed application of the heavier Renderoc HB or sprayed grades is not required. It is best specified as part of a complete Fosroc repair system rather than in isolation, so that primer, repair mortar and protective coating work together.
The technical insight
The engineering logic of Renderoc SF rests on two ideas that anyone repairing concrete should understand. First, shrinkage compensation. Fresh cementitious mortar loses water and shrinks as it cures; when that shrinking mortar is bonded to old, dimensionally stable concrete, tensile stress builds at the bond line and across the patch, causing cracking and eventual debonding. Renderoc SF counters this with a balanced formulation and fibre reinforcement so the net early movement is controlled, which is why Fosroc states that large areas can be repaired without the shrinkage cracking typical of plain mortar. Second, thermal compatibility. A repair mortar whose coefficient of thermal expansion is close to that of concrete will expand and contract in step with the parent structure through India’s wide day-night and seasonal temperature swings, so the repair does not work loose at the interface. The fibres also help bridge micro-cracks and improve toughness and abrasion resistance, while the polymer modification improves adhesion and reduces permeability, slowing the re-entry of the carbon dioxide and chlorides that caused the original corrosion. In practice, performance is only as good as the surface preparation: the steel must be cleaned to bright metal and primed (typically with a Fosroc zinc-rich or active primer), and the concrete substrate must be sound, saturated-surface-dry and bond-coated before the mortar goes on.
Where it is used
- Reinstatement of spalled and delaminated cover concrete on columns, beams and slab soffits
- Repair of carbonation-induced corrosion damage in RCC building frames
- Patch repair of chloride-attacked concrete in coastal and marine-exposed structures
- Localised repairs to reinforced concrete water tanks, sumps and retaining walls
- Reinstatement of damaged masonry and rendered surfaces
- Vertical and overhead repairs where shuttering is impractical
- Repair of honeycombed or poorly compacted concrete after de-shuttering
- Edge and corner rebuilding on bridge piers, parapets and decks
- General-purpose concrete rehabilitation in industrial and infrastructure projects
Key advantages
- Polymer-modified and fibre-reinforced for high compressive and abrasion resistance
- Compensated shrinkage allows large areas to be reinstated with reduced cracking risk
- Excellent adhesion to a prepared concrete substrate
- Good thermal compatibility with the parent concrete for long-term durability
- Single-component, factory-blended powder – only clean water added on site, ensuring consistent quality
- Trowel-applied on vertical and overhead surfaces without formwork, saving time and cost
- Low permeability helps resist further carbonation and chloride ingress
- Part of a complete, compatible Fosroc concrete repair and protection system
Limitations & considerations
- A patch reinstatement mortar, not a flowable micro-concrete for fully enclosed or congested sections (use a flowable Renderoc grade there)
- Per-lift thickness is limited (roughly up to 50 mm vertical, 15-20 mm overhead) – deep repairs need to be built up in layers
- Requires thorough mechanical surface preparation and reinforcement cleaning/priming to perform as intended
- Like all cementitious mortars, needs proper curing and protection from rapid drying in hot, windy Indian conditions
- Not a substitute for addressing the root cause – active corrosion and water ingress must be controlled first
- Hand-applied grade; very high-build or sprayed bulk repairs are better served by Renderoc HB or sprayed grades
- Performance figures depend on site mixing discipline, water content and ambient temperature
Selection & best practice
Treat Renderoc SF as one stage in a full repair system. Saw-cut the repair perimeter to a square edge and break out all defective and chloride-contaminated concrete back to sound substrate, exposing corroded steel fully around its circumference. Grit-blast or wire-brush the reinforcement to bright metal, then apply the recommended Fosroc primer to the steel. Saturate the prepared concrete to a saturated-surface-dry condition, apply the specified bond coat, and trowel Renderoc SF firmly into place while the bond coat is still tacky, building up in controlled lifts within the stated thickness limits and scoring intermediate layers for mechanical key. Mix only with clean water at the dosage on the current TDS, using a forced-action mixer, and never re-temper mortar that has started to stiffen. Cure the finished repair promptly with Fosroc curing membrane or damp hessian, especially in summer, and once cured overcoat with a Fosroc anti-carbonation or protective coating to extend service life. Always confirm exact mixing ratios, thickness limits and cure times against the latest country-specific Fosroc TDS for your batch.

How we position Fosroc Renderoc SF
Renderoc SF sits in the middle of Fosroc’s concrete repair range as a dependable polymer-and-fibre-modified general repair mortar for hand-applied vertical and overhead reinstatement. Within the Fosroc family, step up to Renderoc HB40/HB45 when you need a higher-build, higher-strength hand-applied mortar, to Renderoc S or sprayed grades for large sprayed areas, or to a flowable Renderoc micro-concrete (such as Renderoc RG/LA grades) when the section is congested or fully formed and needs to be poured rather than troweled; pair it with a Fosroc steel primer and a Dekguard/anti-carbonation coating for a complete system. Against competitor systems, Renderoc SF competes with Sika MonoTop and SikaRep repair mortars, MBS (MYK) Saveroc/repair mortars, Dr. Fixit’s repair-mortar range, and STP (Pidilite/STP Ltd) concrete-repair products; the right specification usually comes down to the EN 1504-3 R-class required by the consultant, the repair thickness, and which manufacturer’s complete primer-mortar-coating system the project has standardised on. Space Arc Engineering can advise on the correct Renderoc grade and full system for your specific repair and supply genuine Fosroc material across India.
