What is it?

A two-component, solvent-free epoxy resin floor coating and screed system from MC-Bauchemie’s MC-Dur range, formed by mixing a resin base with a hardener on site.

Where is it used?

Concrete and screed floors in factories, warehouses, workshops, food and beverage plants, car parks and other areas that see forklift traffic, spillage and abrasion.

Why use it?

It cures without shrinkage into a dense, seamless, chemical- and abrasion-resistant surface that is far tougher and easier to clean than bare or painted concrete.

How is it applied?

Applied by roller, squeegee or trowel over a primed, sound, dry substrate at the correct resin-to-hardener ratio, then left to cure at ambient temperature.

About MC-Bauchemie MC-Dur 400

MC-Dur 400 belongs to MC-Bauchemie’s MC-Dur programme, the German manufacturer’s family of epoxy resin systems for industrial floors. Like the rest of that range, it is a two-component product: a pigmented or clear epoxy resin base is combined with a matched hardener immediately before use, and the chemical reaction between the two cures the coating into a solid, jointless film bonded to the concrete beneath. There is no solvent to flash off, so the applied thickness stays where the applicator lays it and the film builds up dense rather than porous. The result is a working surface that behaves very differently from ordinary concrete, which dusts, stains and slowly erodes under wheeled traffic.

Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies MC-Bauchemie systems across Delhi NCR and pan-India, and we position MC-Dur 400 the way the whole MC-Dur family is meant to be used: as the resin layer that turns a structurally sound but hard-wearing concrete floor into a durable, cleanable, chemically protected deck. Because MC-Bauchemie periodically revises its product numbering and regional grades, we always confirm the exact current grade, consumption and colour range against the live manufacturer technical data sheet for your project before we quote or apply. That keeps the specification honest and avoids the guesswork that creeps into resin flooring when numbers are copied from memory rather than the datasheet.

The technical insight

The performance comes from the epoxy cure chemistry itself. When the resin and hardener are mixed in the correct ratio, the amine or polyamide hardener cross-links the epoxide groups on the resin into a tightly bonded three-dimensional network. Because that network forms by reaction rather than by drying, the film hardens with negligible shrinkage and locks in almost the full applied thickness, unlike solvent-borne paints that lose volume as the solvent evaporates. The dense, low-porosity matrix that results is what gives MC-Dur epoxies their signature behaviour: they resist penetration by oils, dilute acids, alkalis and cleaning chemicals, they wear slowly under abrasion and point loads, and they seal the concrete against the water and carbon dioxide ingress that would otherwise carbonate and weaken it. Adhesion to a correctly primed, sound and dry substrate is the other half of the story, since the coating can only perform if it stays keyed to the floor and does not lift under thermal or mechanical stress.

Where it is used

  • Seamless resin floor coatings in manufacturing and assembly plants
  • Warehouse and logistics floors exposed to forklift and pallet-truck traffic
  • Workshop and engineering-shop floors subject to oil, grease and abrasion
  • Food, beverage and pharmaceutical areas needing a cleanable, hygienic surface
  • Chemical storage and process areas requiring resistance to spillage
  • Protective sealing of concrete floors against dusting and liquid ingress
  • Car park decks and service areas carrying wheeled loads
  • Repair and overcoating of worn or previously coated industrial floors

Key advantages

  • Two-component solvent-free chemistry that builds a dense, low-porosity film
  • Cures with negligible shrinkage, so applied thickness is retained
  • Seamless, jointless finish that is easy to sweep, wash and disinfect
  • Good resistance to oils, greases, many chemicals and routine cleaning agents
  • Hard-wearing under abrasion, point loads and wheeled traffic
  • Seals concrete against water and CO2 ingress, protecting the slab
  • Strong adhesion to correctly prepared concrete and screed substrates
  • Backed by MC-Bauchemie’s German formulation and Space Arc’s applied-warranty support

Limitations & considerations

  • Exact grade data (consumption, colours, film build) must be confirmed against the current MC-Bauchemie TDS, as MC-Dur numbering and regional variants change
  • Performance depends heavily on substrate preparation; it will not bond durably to weak, damp, oily or laitance-covered concrete
  • Epoxy films can yellow and chalk under prolonged direct UV, so exposed external areas may need a UV-stable topcoat
  • Application is temperature- and humidity-sensitive, and low temperatures extend cure while high humidity risks a hazy or blushed finish
  • Pot life is limited once resin and hardener are mixed, demanding disciplined batching and timely application
  • Not a structural repair mortar; deep concrete defects must be reinstated with a proper repair mortar before coating

Selection & best practice

Success with any MC-Dur epoxy is decided before the resin is opened. Start with a structurally sound, clean, dry substrate: mechanically prepare the concrete by grinding or shot-blasting to remove laitance, curing compounds, old coatings and contamination, and open the surface to a sound profile. Check that the slab is dry and that a damp-proof membrane is present, because trapped moisture is the most common cause of resin failure in Indian conditions. Prime with the matched MC-Bauchemie primer so the coat keys firmly to the floor. Mix the resin and hardener strictly at the specified ratio using a slow-speed paddle, scraping the container sides, and never split or eyeball part-packs. Apply within the pot life at ambient temperatures within the datasheet window, keep wet edges alive to avoid lap marks, and protect the fresh floor from traffic, dust and water until it has cured. For any specification, work from the current project-specific TDS and, on important floors, let Space Arc’s trained applicators handle preparation and laying.

Frequently asked questions

Is MC-Dur 400 a repair mortar or a floor coating?
It sits in MC-Bauchemie’s MC-Dur range, which is a family of two-component epoxy resin floor coatings and screeds, not cementitious patching mortars. Deep concrete defects should be reinstated with a proper repair mortar first, then coated with the epoxy system.
Does it contain solvents?
No. The MC-Dur epoxy systems are solvent-free, so there is no solvent to flash off, the film builds to full thickness, and it can be used in enclosed areas with sensible ventilation.
What surfaces can it be applied to?
Sound, clean, dry concrete and cement screed floors that have been mechanically prepared and primed. It will not bond durably to weak, damp, oily or laitance-covered surfaces.
How much material will I need?
MC-Dur epoxy screeds are consumed in the order of about 330 grams per square metre per millimetre of thickness, but the exact figure depends on the specific grade and finish. We confirm consumption from the current project TDS before quoting.
Can it be used outdoors in direct sun?
Epoxy coatings can yellow and chalk under prolonged UV. For exposed external areas we recommend a UV-stable topcoat, or an alternative system better suited to sunlight, which we can advise on.
Does Space Arc supply only, or also apply?
Both. We are an authorised MC-Bauchemie supplier and applicator across Delhi NCR and pan-India, and on important floors our trained crews handle preparation, priming and laying so the warranty holds.

How we position MC-Bauchemie MC-Dur 400

MC-Dur 400 is the epoxy resin floor layer within MC-Bauchemie’s MC-Dur programme, so it naturally pairs with the manufacturer’s matched MC-Dur primers and, where a heavier-duty or self-levelling finish is wanted, higher-build MC-Dur grades such as the MC-Dur 1250 epoxy screed and grout. For deep concrete defects that must be made good before any coating goes down, it should be preceded by a proper structural repair mortar rather than the coating itself. Among the other brands Space Arc carries, buyers who want a like-for-like solvent-free industrial epoxy floor coating often compare it with Fosroc’s Nitoflor range, and clients standardising on a single supplier may prefer that route; we are happy to spec either honestly against the actual service conditions.

Preferred brand · Fosroc equivalent

Fosroc Nitoflor FC150 — A specifier who wants a directly equivalent solvent-free epoxy floor coating, or who is standardising a project on Fosroc, may prefer Nitoflor FC150 for chemical- and abrasion-resistant industrial and wet-area floors.
