What is it?

A solvent-free, two-coat epoxy resin floor coating system from Fosroc, supplied as pre-weighed base and hardener with a separate colour pack. It cures to a hard, impervious film with a minimum total dry film thickness of 400 microns.

Where is it used?

Industrial concrete floors where chemical spillage, oils, grease and heavy foot or light vehicular traffic are routine – dairies, soft-drink and bottling plants, breweries, chemical manufacturing units, food-processing kitchens, workshops, car parks and showrooms.

Why use it?

It combines proven resistance to a broad range of industrial acids, alkalis and solvents with a high-strength, easily cleaned, hygienic finish – all while being solvent-free and low-odour, which suits occupied or enclosed plant areas.

How is it applied?

Roller- or squeegee-applied in two top coats over sound, dry, prepared concrete. A Nitoprime 25 primer is used on porous substrates, and Nitoflor Antislip Grains can be broadcast into the base coat to create a slip-resistant texture.

About Fosroc Nitoflor FC150

Nitoflor FC150 is Fosroc’s high-build, solvent-free epoxy floor coating, designed for industrial environments where the concrete floor takes a beating from chemicals, oils, grease, abrasion and constant cleaning. Unlike a self-levelling screed or a thin trade paint, FC150 sits in the middle of the flooring range: it is a roller- or squeegee-applied liquid coating that builds to a robust, seamless film of at least 400 microns across two top coats. That thickness is what separates it from decorative epoxy paints and is the reason it can stand up to wet-area service rather than just light office or warehouse duty.

The system is supplied as pre-weighed base and hardener components plus a Nitoflor colour pack. Every part contains reactive elements that are essential to the cure, so the packs are mixed and used as supplied – no site thinning, no part-mixing. Once the hardener and colour are blended into the base, the operator has a working pot life of roughly 40 minutes at 20 degrees C, which shortens to about 20 minutes at 30 degrees C, a practical point in Indian summer conditions where ambient temperatures on site routinely exceed 30 degrees C.

For Space Arc’s clients across Delhi NCR and pan-India, FC150 is the product to reach for when a floor must shrug off acid, alkali or solvent spillage and still be hygienic and easy to wash down. It is genuinely solvent-free, so there is no strong odour during application – a real advantage in food, beverage and pharmaceutical plants and in any enclosed area where ventilation is limited and production cannot fully stop. The coating is available in a range of colours, letting facilities zone areas, mark hazards and lift the look of a working space.

The technical insight

The defining characteristic of Nitoflor FC150 is that it is a high-build coating, not a screed and not a self-levelling system. It is engineered around a specified minimum total dry film thickness of 400 microns, achieved as two top coats of at least 200 microns each, applied by medium-pile roller or squeegee. This places it firmly in the chemical- and abrasion-resistant coating category rather than the structural-topping category. The cured film delivers a compressive strength of 70 N/mm2, flexural strength of 40 N/mm2 and tensile strength of 20 N/mm2, with a Shore D hardness of 85 and very low water absorption of 0.06% (ASTM C413). Chemical resistance was established by ASTM D543 testing over 168 hours (7 days) at 23 degrees C: fully cured samples are rated Resistant to 10% lactic, citric and acetic acids, 50% hydrochloric and sulphuric acid, 25% nitric acid, 50% sodium hydroxide, 10% ammonia, plus petrol, oil, kerosene, butanol, Skydrol, industrial methylated spirits, saturated sugar and urea solutions and 5% bleach. Practically, the two-coat film cures for light traffic in 24 hours and full traffic in 48 hours at 20 degrees C (18 and 24 hours respectively at 30 degrees C), and reaches full chemical-spillage resistance after 7 days at 20 degrees C. The maximum time between coats is 36 hours at 20 degrees C, dropping to 15 hours at 30 degrees C – a window that must be respected to guarantee inter-coat adhesion.

Where it is used

  • Dairies and milk-processing floors subject to lactic acid, fats and frequent wash-down
  • Soft-drink production and bottling plants where sugar solutions and acidic spillage are routine
  • Breweries and beverage facilities needing a hygienic, washable, chemical-resistant floor
  • Chemical manufacturing and processing plants exposed to acid, alkali and solvent spillage
  • Plating shops, dye works and processing units with aggressive wet chemistry
  • Commercial and industrial kitchens and food-preparation areas requiring an impervious finish
  • Workshops and production-assembly areas needing an abrasion-resistant, oil-resistant floor
  • Internal car parks, showrooms and plant rooms where a durable, attractive coating is wanted
  • Wet working areas where slip resistance is added via Nitoflor Antislip Grains

Key advantages

  • Solvent-free and low-odour, suitable for occupied, enclosed and food/beverage environments
  • Proven resistance to a wide range of industrial acids, alkalis, oils, greases and solvents
  • High mechanical performance – 70 N/mm2 compressive, 40 N/mm2 flexural, Shore D 85 hardness
  • Seamless, impervious, hygienic finish that is easy to clean and maintain
  • High-build film (minimum 400 microns total) gives durability well beyond decorative epoxy paints
  • Very low water absorption (0.06%), so the surface stays hygienic and resists ingress
  • Slip-resistant textures available through graded Nitoflor Antislip Grains
  • Wide colour range for zoning, hazard marking and improving the working environment
  • Liquid-applied by roller or squeegee, so it follows existing floor falls and joint lines

Limitations & considerations

  • Must not be applied over substrates suffering from rising damp, osmosis risk, or relative humidity above 75% (BS 8203 Appendix A)
  • Short pot life – around 40 minutes at 20 degrees C and only about 20 minutes at 30 degrees C – demands disciplined batching in Indian heat
  • New concrete must be at least 28 days old with moisture content below 5% before coating
  • Not a self-levelling or self-smoothing system, so the final surface profile follows the existing concrete – it will not correct undulations or falls
  • Fosroc does not recommend acid etching as a preparation method; mechanical preparation is preferred
  • Inter-coat window is limited (36 hours at 20 degrees C, 15 hours at 30 degrees C) and must be observed for adhesion
  • Some slight shade change can occur over time under adverse UV or exposure conditions, and gloss can be affected in extreme heat and humidity
  • Epoxy resins, hardeners and the Nitoflor Sol/Nitoprime 25 solvents require skin, eye and ventilation precautions

Selection & best practice

Confirm the substrate first: new concrete should be at least 28 days old with moisture content under 5%, and existing floors must be sound, degreased and free of laitance, curing compound and paint. Use mechanical preparation (grinding or shot-blasting) rather than acid etching, then vacuum off all dust. Prime porous or doubtful concrete with Nitoprime 25 (coverage 5.5 to 6.5 m2/litre); priming is not normally needed on sound, non-porous concrete. Repair defects with Nitomortar 30 or Nitoflor EU5. Apply two top coats by medium-pile epoxy roller or squeegee at a minimum 200 microns each, for a total dry film of at least 400 microns – budget around 5.0 m2/litre per coat at 200 microns wet film. Recoat after the base coat reaches initial cure (about 12 hours at 20 degrees C, 5 hours at 35 degrees C) and within the maximum 36-hour inter-coat window at 20 degrees C. For slip resistance, lay the base coat at 250 microns, blind it with the chosen Nitoflor Antislip Grain, vacuum the excess after initial cure, then seal with a top coat at about 4.0 m2/litre. Because pot life drops sharply as temperature rises, mix small batches in summer and never add solvent thinners. Allow 7 days at 20 degrees C before exposing the floor to chemical spillage. Store packs below 35 degrees C; shelf life is 12 months unopened.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fosroc Nitoflor FC150 a self-levelling floor?
No. FC150 is a high-build, roller- or squeegee-applied epoxy coating, not a self-levelling screed. It builds to a minimum 400-micron dry film over two coats and follows the existing concrete profile and falls. If you need a self-smoothing, thicker monolithic finish, a self-levelling epoxy such as Nitoflor SL or a PU screed like Ucrete is the right category instead.
What total thickness and how many coats does FC150 need?
The specification calls for a minimum total dry film thickness of 400 microns, applied as two top coats of at least 200 microns each. On porous concrete a Nitoprime 25 primer coat is added first. For a slip-resistant finish the base coat is laid at 250 microns and dressed with Nitoflor Antislip Grains before the sealing top coat.
How much area does one pack cover?
Coverage is about 5.0 m2 per litre per coat at 200 microns wet film thickness, so a 4.5-litre pack covers roughly 22-23 m2 per coat in theory. Because FC150 is a two-coat system, plan for two passes plus a wastage allowance – practical coverage is always lower than the theoretical figure due to substrate texture and application losses.
Which chemicals does it resist?
Fully cured FC150 is rated Resistant (ASTM D543, 7 days at 23 degrees C) to 10% lactic, citric and acetic acids, 50% hydrochloric and sulphuric acid, 25% nitric acid, 50% sodium hydroxide, 10% ammonia, plus petrol, oil, kerosene, butanol, Skydrol, methylated spirits, saturated sugar and urea solutions and 5% bleach. For continuous immersion or unusual chemistry, confirm suitability with Space Arc or Fosroc technical support.
How soon can the floor be used after coating?
At 20 degrees C the floor takes light traffic after 24 hours and full traffic after 48 hours; at 30 degrees C this shortens to 18 and 24 hours. Full resistance to chemical spillage develops after 7 days at 20 degrees C (5 days at 30 degrees C), so keep aggressive spillage off the floor until then.
What surface preparation does FC150 require?
The substrate must be sound, clean and dry – new concrete at least 28 days old with moisture below 5%. Remove laitance, oil, grease, curing compounds and paint by mechanical grinding or shot-blasting, then vacuum off dust. Fosroc does not recommend acid etching. Do not apply over floors with rising damp, osmosis risk, or relative humidity above 75% per BS 8203.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor FC150

Within Fosroc’s own range, Nitoflor FC150 sits between thin decorative coatings and heavy-duty toppings: it is the chemical- and abrasion-resistant coating choice for wet industrial floors. Where a smoother, thicker, self-levelling monolithic finish is needed, look to Fosroc’s self-levelling epoxy systems (the Nitoflor SL family), and for very thin sealing or dust-proofing duty a product like Nitoflor TC or a simple epoxy seal is more economical. For thermal-shock, steam-cleaning or extreme chemical environments, a polyurethane screed outranks any epoxy coating. Against competitors, FC150 is broadly comparable to Sika’s Sikafloor epoxy coatings (such as the Sikafloor-264/-261 range) and to MBCC/Master Builders Solutions MasterTop epoxy coating systems; where heavy thermal and chemical loading rules out epoxy, MBCC’s Ucrete PU screeds are the recognised benchmark. Space Arc specifies FC150 when the brief is a solvent-free, colour-coded, chemical-resistant coating for dairies, beverage plants, kitchens and processing units across Delhi NCR and pan-India, and will recommend the appropriate Nitoflor screed or PU alternative when the duty demands more than a high-build coating.
