Sika Poxitar F
Two-Component Epoxy-Tar Coating for Heavy-Duty Corrosion and Chemical Protection of Concrete and Steel
Authorized Project Distributor — Sika India | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad
Product Overview
Sika Poxitar F is a two-component coating based on an epoxy resin combined with coal tar pitch, providing a high-build, chemically resistant, waterproof coating for the protection of concrete and steel surfaces in aggressive environments. The combination of epoxy resin and coal tar pitch gives Sika Poxitar F its characteristic high-build film forming capability, excellent adhesion to concrete and steel without primer in many applications, outstanding water and moisture resistance, and broad chemical resistance to dilute acids, alkalis, sewage, and petroleum products. Sika Poxitar F is applied as a thick, viscous coating in one or two coats to achieve a total dry film thickness of 250 to 500 microns, building a robust protective barrier that prevents corrosive moisture, aggressive chemicals, and chloride ions from reaching the concrete or steel substrate below. On concrete, Sika Poxitar F protects structural concrete elements in sewage treatment plants, underground water reservoirs, stormwater channels, culverts, and industrial containment bunds from the combined attack of moisture, carbonation, and chemical contamination. On steel, it protects mild steel structures, pipes, water tanks, sheet piling, and embedded metalwork from atmospheric and soil-side corrosion. Sika Poxitar F is particularly suited to waterway and water infrastructure applications where sustained water immersion is a key design requirement — the coal tar epoxy formulation has excellent resistance to water absorption and maintains adhesion and film integrity under continuous water immersion, making it suitable for water-retaining structures and canal linings. Space Arc Engineering supplies Sika Poxitar F for water treatment plants, sewage infrastructure, industrial floors and bunds, and steel structure protection projects across Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh.

Frequently Asked Questions
What surface preparation is required before applying Sika Poxitar F to concrete and to steel substrates?
Correct surface preparation is the most critical factor for long-term performance of Sika Poxitar F — an inadequately prepared substrate will result in premature adhesion failure regardless of coating quality. For concrete substrates: Mechanical preparation: all concrete surfaces must be mechanically prepared by sandblasting (preferred), grinding, or high-pressure water jetting (minimum 500 bar) to remove all laitance, carbonation, contamination, oil, grease, and curing compound. After mechanical preparation, the surface should have a fine textured profile (approximately CSP 3 to 4 per ICRI standards) to provide adequate mechanical keying for the coating. Moisture content: concrete must be surface-dry at the time of Sika Poxitar F application — maximum allowable surface moisture varies by product variant but is typically surface dry (no visible moisture). For damp or wet concrete in below-ground applications, a Sika epoxy damp-tolerant primer should be considered. Fill voids: honeycombing, blowholes, and surface voids in the concrete must be filled with Sika epoxy mortar or repair mortar and allowed to cure before coating application — voids create pinholes through the coating film. For steel substrates: Blast cleaning to a minimum Sa 2.5 standard (ISO 8501-1) using steel grit or shot blast — this removes all mill scale, rust, oil, and contamination and creates a surface profile of 40 to 70 microns Rz for mechanical adhesion. Solvent wipe: after blasting, wipe the steel with a clean cloth dampened with MEK or acetone solvent to remove any blast dust residue from the profile valleys before Sika Poxitar F application.
