The technical insight
A release agent works by chemistry, not just by being slippery. Fresh concrete is strongly alkaline; the active components in ShaliSlip SB react at the form face to form a thin, non-bonding barrier so the cement paste sets against the film instead of keying into the shutter. The solvent carrier is the delivery mechanism: it lets the active material spread into a very thin, even layer and then evaporates, leaving the release film in place without a wet residue. That thin-and-even principle is why application discipline matters more than quantity. Too little film and the concrete grips the form, tearing the surface on strike; too much leaves a wet, oily excess that can be picked up by the concrete face, causing discolouration, retarded skin and dusting that interferes with later coatings or plaster. Applied correctly, the same film that releases the concrete also shields the shutter itself from grout attack, which is a large part of why treated formwork lasts through more cycles.

Aim for a film that dampens the surface, not one that leaves visible runs. Treat the shutter just before concrete placement rather than long in advance so the film is fresh and dust-free at the pour. Keep the product off finished concrete, reinforcement and any surface due to receive bonded coatings or repair mortar. Store in closed containers away from heat, sparks and open flame, and provide ventilation during application.
