What is it?

A single-component, UV-resistant acrylic emulsion top coat with silicone additives, supplied in a white base and pigmented to shade, applied over cured ShaliCryl 215 elastomeric waterproofing.

Where is it used?

Exposed RCC terraces, roof slabs, parapets, sunshades, podium decks and overhead tank exteriors already waterproofed with ShaliCryl 215 — anywhere the membrane takes direct sun, dust and monsoon rain.

Why use it?

Left uncoated, an acrylic waterproofing membrane chalks and loses gloss under UV within a couple of seasons. TC 100 E seals it in a tough, washable, algae-resistant skin, bridges hairline cracks up to 2 mm, and extends the base coat’s working life.

How is it applied?

Brush or roller in two coats at 180-200 ml/m² each over a clean, cured ShaliCryl 215 surface, 6-8 hours apart; keep off foot traffic for 72 hours after the final coat.

About STP ShaliCryl TC 100 E

STP Limited — formerly Shalimar Tar Products, now part of the Berger Paints group, with over 85 years in Indian construction chemicals — built the ShaliCryl range on a two-layer logic: one product handles waterproofing and elongation, a second purpose-built coat handles UV, dirt and gloss. ShaliCryl TC 100 E is that second product. It is not a waterproofing membrane in its own right; it is the finishing layer specified over ShaliCryl 215’s elastomeric acrylic base coat, and its formulation — quick-set silicone additives, high solids, a tight DFT band — is tuned around protecting that base coat rather than replacing it.

That distinction matters more in Delhi NCR than in most places. Exposed terraces here see summer surface temperatures well past 60°C, months of UV loading, and construction dust that settles into any coating with poor surface tension. Sites that skip the top coat and leave ShaliCryl 215 exposed typically see it chalk and stain within a season or two, forcing an early recoat. TC 100 E’s water repellency and dust pick-up resistance target exactly that failure mode — it is cheap insurance on the base coat, not a cosmetic add-on, which is how experienced applicators in the region actually treat it.

The technical insight

The datasheet numbers explain the on-site behaviour. At 58 ± 2% solids and 3000 ± 200 cps viscosity, it lays a controlled 80-100 micron dry film per coat. Its 620 ± 50% elongation and 1.20 ± 0.1 MPa tensile strength (ASTM D 6083, 14-day cure) sit close to what’s needed to track the 2 mm crack-bridging claim without splitting at hairline movement in the base coat. A 70-72 Shore A hardness with 1.6 MPa adhesion strength (ASTM D 4541, concrete failure mode) means the film itself is rarely the weak link — if a coated terrace fails, it’s usually surface prep. Specific gravity 1.20 and theoretical coverage of 4.90-6.20 m²/L give estimators a real basis for material take-offs rather than rule-of-thumb coverage.

Where it is used

  • Top-coat finish over ShaliCryl 215 on exposed RCC terraces and roof slabs
  • Parapet walls, chajjas and sunshades under direct monsoon and summer UV exposure
  • Podium decks and terrace gardens needing a washable, dust-resistant surface
  • Overhead water tank exteriors and elevated water storage structures
  • Industrial shed and factory roofs already waterproofed with ShaliCryl 215
  • Refurbishment recoats on aged, chalked elastomeric waterproofing
  • Shaded, algae-prone terraces and monsoon-exposed walls needing fungal resistance
  • Institutional and hospitality building exteriors where a stain-free finish matters for upkeep

Key advantages

  • Excellent UV resistance — passed 1000-hour accelerated weathering (ASTM D G23 Type D) with no defects or cracking
  • Water and dirt repellent lotus-leaf surface, easier to sweep and wash clean
  • High crack-bridging property up to 2 mm, tracking minor base-coat movement
  • Fast surface-dry of about 10 minutes limits dust contamination during application
  • Extends the working life of the ShaliCryl 215 base coat by shielding it from direct UV
  • Documented ASTM-tested performance (D 6083, D 2240, D 4541, D 4586) gives verifiable data, not marketing claims
  • Low-VOC, water-based acrylic formulation, easier to work with than solvent-based top coats

Limitations & considerations

  • Not a standalone waterproofing product — it only performs as specified over cured ShaliCryl 215, not on bare concrete
  • Sold only in 5 L and 20 L packs, so very small balcony or terrace jobs may end up buying more material than needed
  • Weather-dependent application window: above 5°C, a dry 6-8 hour gap between coats, and 72 dry hours before traffic — tight to plan around Delhi NCR’s monsoon
  • Pigmented to shade with STP’s accompanying paste, so colour consistency across large facades depends on using paste from a single batch
  • A two-coat, two-product system (215 + TC 100 E) takes longer on site than single-coat elastomeric alternatives

Selection & best practice

Confirm the ShaliCryl 215 base coat has fully cured and is dust-free before starting — a quick air-jet clean is usually enough. Apply the first coat undiluted at 180-200 ml/m², let it dry 6-8 hours, then apply the second coat at the same rate; don’t compress this gap under site pressure, since it’s what gives the film its full crack-bridging strength. Keep the coated area completely out of traffic for 72 hours after the final coat, and don’t start either coat if rain is forecast within that window — a common site mistake in Delhi NCR’s monsoon shoulder months.

Frequently asked questions

Can ShaliCryl TC 100 E be used without ShaliCryl 215, as a standalone waterproofing coat?
No. TC 100 E is engineered as a top coat only, applied over a cured ShaliCryl 215 base coat to add UV, dirt and crack-bridging protection. Used alone on bare concrete it will not deliver the waterproofing performance of the two-layer system.
How many coats does it need and what’s the coverage rate?
Two coats, each applied at 180-200 ml/m², with a 6-8 hour drying gap between them — roughly 4.90-6.20 m² per litre per coat depending on surface texture, so plan quantities toward the lower end for rougher terraces.
How soon can the terrace be used after the final coat?
Keep the area free of foot traffic for a full 72 hours after the second coat. Surface-dry happens in about 10 minutes and hard-dry in about 90 minutes, but 72 hours is the cure window the datasheet specifies before the film should take use.
What colours does it come in?
It’s supplied as a white paste base that STP pigments to shade using an accompanying colour paste, so you can specify a shade rather than being limited to white — confirm exact shade availability and batch consistency with Space Arc before ordering large quantities.
What’s the shelf life and how should we store it on site?
12 months from manufacture in the original, unopened, sealed container. Store it in a cool, dry, shaded spot away from direct heat — leaving drums in direct Delhi summer sun can shorten usable shelf life.
Does the surface need a primer before TC 100 E goes on?
No separate primer is required. The cured ShaliCryl 215 base coat itself acts as the substrate — just make sure it’s fully cured and cleaned of dust before the first coat of TC 100 E goes on.

How we position STP ShaliCryl TC 100 E

Within STP’s own range, TC 100 E is the standard partner for ShaliCryl 215 elastomeric waterproofing; where a site wants extra water-repellency on top of UV protection, STP’s own ShaliCryl TC 100 ES (silicone-modified) is the step-up variant, and ShaliCryl LM / LM HI cover fibre-reinforced base membranes with heat-insulation needs. For specifiers weighing an alternative system rather than a top-coat add-on, Fosroc’s Nitocote Wallguard is the closest genuine equivalent — it folds waterproofing and a UV-stable decorative finish into one product, trading STP’s dedicated two-layer crack-bridging build for one-coat simplicity.

Preferred brand · Fosroc equivalent

Fosroc Nitocote Wallguard — Specifiers who want a single-product elastomeric waterproof-plus-decorative system rather than STP’s two-layer ShaliCryl 215 + TC 100 E build-up sometimes choose Nitocote Wallguard instead, trading some of STP’s dedicated crack-bridging film build for one-coat site simplicity.
