Asian Paints SmartCare SmartCare Damp Block 2K
A two-component acrylic-cementitious coating rated for 5 bar positive and 4 bar negative hydrostatic pressure — Asian Paints’ brick-level fix for damp walls and efflorescence.
What is it?
A two-component (powder plus liquid) acrylic polymer-modified cementitious waterproofing coating that cures into a flexible, seamless membrane on masonry and concrete.
Where is it used?
Brick and masonry walls affected by dampness or efflorescence, sunken bathroom and toilet slabs, balconies, terraces, parapets and sunshades, and both positive-side and negative-side wall waterproofing.
Why use it?
It resists up to 5 bar of positive and 4 bar of negative hydrostatic pressure, stretches 100% to bridge hairline movement cracks, and carries a manufacturer 3-year waterproofing and efflorescence warranty when applied down to brick level.
How is it applied?
Powder is added to liquid in a fixed 2:1 ratio by weight, mixed into a lump-free slurry, rested five to six minutes, then brush- or roller-applied in two perpendicular coats over a saturated-surface-dry substrate, achieving roughly 15 sq ft/kg per coat.
About Asian Paints SmartCare SmartCare Damp Block 2K
Dampness that shows up as flaking plaster, a white salt bloom (efflorescence), or a permanently damp patch on an internal wall is rarely bad luck — it is water finding its way through brickwork that was never sealed at the source. SmartCare Damp Block 2K is Asian Paints’ answer to that specific problem: a two-component, acrylic polymer-modified cementitious coating that is brushed or rollered directly onto masonry and cured concrete to form a continuous, joint-free waterproofing membrane. Unlike a cosmetic damp-proof paint that just hides the stain for a season, this is a structural-grade coating tested to resist up to 5 bar of positive-side hydrostatic pressure and 4 bar from the negative side, which is why Asian Paints backs it with a 3-year waterproofing and efflorescence warranty when it is applied down to brick level rather than skimmed over old plaster.
The product ships as a matched powder-and-liquid system in a fixed 2:1 ratio by weight, so there is no on-site guesswork about proportions — just mixing, resting the slurry to release trapped air, and applying two perpendicular coats. It is meant to be used as part of a small system rather than in isolation: SmartCare Crack Seal handles any hairline cracks before the coating goes on, and SmartCare Vitalia is the recommended integral waterproofing compound where a cementitious screed is being laid over freshly coated brickwork. For Space Arc, as an authorised SmartCare distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and pan-India project sites, Damp Block 2K is one of the most frequently specified products for exactly the jobs it was built for — retrofitting damp boundary walls, treating sunken bathroom slabs before re-tiling, and sealing basements and retaining walls from the dry face when the wet face cannot be reached.
The technical insight
The coating’s performance comes down to two components working together. The cement fraction gives the film its bond to masonry and its resistance to hydrostatic pressure — tested to DIN 1048 at up to 5 bar positive and 4 bar negative — while the acrylic polymer is what keeps that normally rigid cementitious film flexible enough to stretch 100% at break (ASTM D 412) and bridge cracks up to 1.2 mm without failing. That combination is the whole point of a “2K flexible cementitious coating” as a category: a pure cement slurry would crack the moment the building moved a fraction of a millimetre, and a pure acrylic membrane would not bond or resist pressure the way this does on porous brick. The anti-carbonation claim is a genuine secondary benefit rather than marketing filler — a continuous acrylic-cement film does slow CO2 ingress into the concrete pore structure, which matters for reinforced members near the coated surface — though it should not be read as a substitute for a dedicated anti-carbonation coating on structural elements facing serious carbonation risk.
Where it is used
- Damp and efflorescence-affected brick or masonry walls, interior and exterior
- Positive-side waterproofing of exterior, boundary and compound walls
- Negative-side waterproofing where the wet face cannot be reached, such as basements and retaining walls
- Sunken bathroom and toilet slabs before screeding and tiling
- Balconies and utility areas exposed to standing water
- Terraces, parapets and sunshades prone to seepage into the room below
- Masonry overlay screeds in combination with SmartCare Vitalia for new-build waterproofing
Key advantages
- Rated for both positive-side (5 bar) and negative-side (4 bar) hydrostatic pressure, useful where the wet face of a wall is not accessible
- 100% elongation keeps the membrane flexible enough to bridge fine building movement and hairline cracks up to 1.2 mm without cracking
- Seamless, joint-free film applied with an ordinary brush or roller — no spray equipment or specialist crew required
- Anti-carbonation protection adds a secondary defence for concrete members, not just a damp block
- Manufacturer-backed 3-year waterproofing and efflorescence warranty when applied to brick level, plus a 1-year warranty on plaster applications
- Declared low heavy-metal content (lead under 90 ppm; no added mercury, arsenic or chromium), relevant for occupied interior spaces
- Available in a 3 kg pack for small bathroom-scale repairs as well as 15 kg for larger masonry runs
- Backed by Asian Paints’ pan-India dealer and applicator network for warranty claims and technical support
Limitations & considerations
- Once powder and liquid are combined the slurry must be used in that session — it is not designed to be re-wetted, extended or stored mixed
- Needs a genuine saturated-surface-dry substrate and 3-5 days of cure before tiling, screeding or a ponding test, so rushing the programme compromises the film
- Fresh concrete or masonry needs a full 28-day cure before application, which can clash with a tight construction schedule
- Off-White is the only standard shade, and it is a functional coating meant to sit under screed, plaster or tiling rather than serve as an exposed decorative finish
- Adhesion strength (0.8 MPa) and the negative-side pressure rating (4 bar) sit a step behind some premium 2K flexible membranes, so very high hydrostatic-pressure basements deserve a specifier review
- Results depend heavily on correct 2:1 mixing and a genuine two-coat, perpendicular application — inconsistent site mixing is the most common cause of premature failure
Selection & best practice
Treat surface preparation as the real waterproofing step, not the coating itself. Chase efflorescence back to sound brick, fill any surface crack under 3 mm with SmartCare Crack Seal, and rebuild larger cracks or hollow patches with a polymer-modified repair mortar before the slurry goes on. Mix powder into liquid — never the reverse — in the fixed 2:1 ratio, let the slurry stand five to six minutes to release trapped air, and apply the two coats in perpendicular directions so any pinholes in one pass are sealed by the other. If the wall is going to be screeded over brick, do it within 24-48 hours of coating; if the surface stays exposed, give it the full 3-5 day cure before any ponding test or tiling load.

Industry use cases
Residential bathroom and balcony waterproofing
Applied under the tile bedding on sunken bathroom or balcony slabs and up the wall to sill height before the screed goes down — a routine repair-and-retile job across Delhi NCR flats and independent floors.
Retrofit for damp and efflorescence-hit boundary walls
Plaster is chased back to brick where salt staining shows, the wall is coated at brick level to qualify for the manufacturer’s 3-year efflorescence warranty, then re-plastered.
Basement and retaining-wall negative-side waterproofing
Where the wet soil face cannot be reached — party-wall basements, lift pits — the coating is applied from the dry interior face and is rated to resist up to 4 bar of pressure pushing back.
New-build masonry waterproofing with screed overlay
On fresh brickwork, Damp Block 2K is coated and then screeded within 24-48 hours using SmartCare Vitalia as the integral waterproofing compound, folding both systems into one build sequence.
Terrace parapet and sunshade seepage control
Coated on parapet walls and sunshade projections that show recurring monsoon seepage into the room below, ahead of a topside terrace waterproofing system.

How we position Asian Paints SmartCare SmartCare Damp Block 2K
Within Asian Paints’ own SmartCare range, Damp Block 2K sits alongside the higher-specification SmartCare Damp Block 2K Prime and SmartCare Damp Block 2K Pro variants, and works as a system with SmartCare Crack Seal for pre-treating hairline cracks and SmartCare Vitalia as the integral waterproofing compound for any screed laid over it. Outside the Asian Paints stable, the closest like-for-like is Fosroc’s Brushbond FLXIII, also sold as Brushbond Flex — another two-component, brush-applied flexible cementitious coating for masonry and concrete, but with a higher declared elongation and adhesion figure and EN 1504-2 / WRAS credentials that matter on basements, water-retaining structures, or specified projects calling for an internationally certified 2K system. Space Arc, as an authorised SmartCare distributor and applicator, stocks and installs Damp Block 2K for routine residential and light-commercial damp and efflorescence work, and can quote the Fosroc alternative where a project’s pressure rating, certification, or specifier preference calls for it.
Fosroc Brushbond FLXIII — A specifier waterproofing a basement, water tank, or an EN 1504-certified job might choose Brushbond FLXIII over Damp Block 2K for its higher declared elongation and adhesion plus WRAS/EN 1504-2 credentials, while Damp Block 2K remains the more economical choice for routine residential damp and efflorescence repair.
