STP ShaliProtek PuR 100
STP’s rapid-cure, spray-applied polyurea coating that turns a concrete or metal roof into a seamless, walkable waterproofing membrane in a single working day.
What is it?
A two-component, 100% solids polyurea elastomeric coating, sprayed through a heated plural-component rig, that gels in seconds into a tough, seamless, UV-stable waterproofing and protective membrane.
Where is it used?
Concrete and metal roofs, tunnels, metallic pipelines, silos and hoppers, water and effluent tanks, and surfaces exposed to saline water, chemical spillage or heavy foot traffic.
Why use it?
It replaces multi-day, multi-coat waterproofing with one high-build application that tack-cures in under a minute, takes traffic within 24 hours, and bridges cracks without joints that can leak.
How is it applied?
Applied by trained crews using a heated, high-pressure (100-150 bar) 1:1 plural-component spray machine over a primed, prepared substrate, built up to a minimum 1.5 mm dry film thickness.
About STP ShaliProtek PuR 100
Polyurea coatings react faster and cure tougher than conventional polyurethane waterproofing, and ShaliProtek PuR 100 is STP Limited’s spray-grade entry in the category. A roller-applied PU membrane can take a day to skin over; this system gels in 40-60 seconds, so a roof is largely rain-safe within hours of the crew arriving and trafficable the next day. For Indian sites racing a monsoon deadline, or plants that cannot shut a roof or pipe rack for a week, that speed is the main reason to specify it over a slower-curing membrane.
What separates it from a coating merely marketed as fast is what happens after cure: 500% elongation alongside 18 MPa tensile strength and 85 Shore A hardness lets the membrane stretch across a crack or a metal roof’s thermal movement without tearing. It isn’t hand-applied, though — it needs a heated tip-mix spray rig, a trained crew, and the correct STP primer first. Treat it as the choice for large, high-value roofs, tunnels and tanks; on smaller or access-constrained jobs, STP’s brush-grade ShaliProtek PuR L is the practical fallback.
The technical insight
The chemistry explains the speed. Conventional polyurethane cures by reacting isocyanate with a polyol — slow, and sensitive to humidity. Polyurea instead reacts isocyanate (Component A) with an amine resin (Component B) at 1:1, fast enough that STP’s data sheet quotes an 8-10 second pot life at 27°C. That’s why it needs heated plural-component equipment at 100-150 bar rather than a roller — the streams are metered and mixed in-gun, milliseconds before hitting the substrate, building a full 1.5 mm dry film in one pass.
Where it is used
- Waterproofing of RCC roof slabs and walkable terraces
- Metal roofing sheets and industrial shed roofs
- Tunnel linings and underground concrete structures
- Anti-corrosive protective coating on metallic pipelines
- Silos, hoppers and bulk storage structure linings
- Tanks and surfaces in continuous contact with saline or sea water
- Overcoating of existing, aged polyurethane waterproofing membranes
- Protective topcoat over rigid polyurethane foam (PUF) insulation
Key advantages
- Tack-free in 40-60 seconds — a multi-day waterproofing job shrinks to hours of active spraying
- 100% solids, solvent-free — no VOC flash-off on occupied or live sites
- Seamless, monolithic membrane with no laps or joints for water to track through
- 500% elongation with 18 MPa tensile strength gives genuine, durable crack-bridging
- Wide service range, -35°C to +80°C, suits hot metal roofs and cold-store structures alike
- Adhesion over 2.5 MPa on concrete and 6.0 MPa on metal resists blistering
- Passed 1,000-hour salt spray and chemical resistance against oils, fuels, seawater, dilute acids/alkalis
- Recoatable directly over sound existing polyurethane membranes on refurbishment work
Limitations & considerations
- Needs a heated, high-pressure plural-component spray rig and trained crew — not a bucket-and-roller product
- 8-10 second pot life leaves almost no margin for equipment miscalibration or inexperience
- Mandatory priming and strict prep — 28-day-cured concrete, SA 2½ blast profile on steel — add time before spraying
- Sold only in 200-litre packs per component, uneconomical for small repair jobs
- Equipment mobilisation and applicator training push installed cost above a brush-applied PU or bituminous membrane
- Residual surface moisture or contamination missed during prep can still cause pinholing despite the coating’s tolerance
Selection & best practice
Match primer to substrate without shortcuts — ShaliPrime PUM on concrete, ShaliPrime 2E LC on metal — and let it dry fully; skipping this is the most common cause of adhesion failure. Confirm 28-day-cured concrete and an SA 2½ blast profile on steel before mobilising the rig, hold material temperature at 30-35°C and tip pressure at 100-150 bar, and verify DFT against the 1.5 mm minimum with a wet film gauge as you go — the short tack time leaves no room for touch-ups after a pass gels.

How we position STP ShaliProtek PuR 100
Within STP’s own range, ShaliProtek PuR 100 is the spray-grade, high-productivity option; where a site can’t mobilise spray equipment, brush-applied ShaliProtek PuR L covers the same role more slowly, and both depend on the same ShaliPrime PUM (concrete) and ShaliPrime 2E LC (metal) primers. The closest outside equivalent is Fosroc’s Polyurea WPE, a similarly spray-applied, 100% solids, two-component pure polyurea — a specifier already standardised on Fosroc’s range would reasonably look there instead. Space Arc supplies and applicator-manages both.
Fosroc Polyurea WPE — Specifiers already standardised on Fosroc’s waterproofing range, or needing a Fosroc-specific project approval, might choose Polyurea WPE instead — a comparable spray-applied, 100% solids, two-component pure polyurea system with similar mechanical performance.
