MC-Bauchemie MC-Proof one

A one-component, bitumen-free flexible coating built for basements, terraces and refurbishment jobs where getting waterproofing right the first time matters more than saving a few rupees per kilo.

What is it?

A ready-to-use, single-component reactive sealant — MC-Bauchemie calls it a flexible polymer thick coating, or FPD — that cures into a seamless, crack-bridging, bitumen-free and solvent-free waterproofing skin without any on-site mixing.

Where is it used?

Basement walls, foundations and base slabs in contact with soil; balconies and terraces ahead of tiling; plinth zones exposed to splash water; and refurbishment of ageing bituminous membranes that have started to crack or lift.

Why use it?

One component removes the classic site error of a wrongly mixed two-pack slurry, it stretches over live hairline cracks instead of splitting, and it carries an ETA and EN 14891 backing that most bitumen coatings simply do not have.

How is it applied?

Trowel, wide brush or spray pump, applied in two coats onto a pre-wetted, primed, sound substrate — with a built-in colour change from dark to light grey telling the applicator when it has cured enough to move on.

About MC-Bauchemie MC-Proof one

MC-Proof one sits in MC-Bauchemie’s reactive sealants range, alongside two-component systems like MC-Proof eco. It began life under the name Expert Proof one before MC-Bauchemie rebranded its waterproofing lines, and it carries a European Technical Assessment (ETA-18/0325) plus certification to EN 14891 — credentials that matter when a consultant asks for more than a data sheet claim. Chemically it is a single-component, bitumen-free, solvent-free flexible polymer coating: no tar smell, no two-pack ratio to get wrong on a hot afternoon, and a working time of roughly 90 minutes at 23°C that gives applicators a realistic window before it sets.

For the Indian market, that one-component simplicity is the real selling point. Most site crews default to bituminous paints or two-pack cementitious slurries, both with their own headaches — solvent fumes in an enclosed basement, or a labourer eyeballing the powder-to-liquid ratio on a monsoon morning. MC-Proof one is opened, stirred and applied, which is exactly what Space Arc Engineering gets asked for on basement retrofits across Delhi NCR, where access is tight and re-mobilising a crew for a botched coat is expensive. It is not a cheap product, and it is not meant to be — it is positioned for jobs where crack-bridging and a verifiable approval trail outweigh a lower price per kilogram.

The technical insight

The coverage figures are tied to German DIN 18533 water-exposure classes rather than an Indian standard, and that trips people up. W4-E (moderate, non-pressurised moisture, like damp soil around a shallow foundation) is rated at roughly 2.9 kg/m² across two coats; W2.1-E (higher, near-pressurised water load, like a deep basement wall against wet ground) needs closer to 5.8 kg/m². Specifying 2.9 kg/m² for both is the single most common way this product under-performs on site — match coverage to the actual water exposure, not to whatever is left in the pail.

Where it is used

  • Exterior basement wall and foundation waterproofing
  • Terraces and balconies ahead of screed and tile
  • Base slabs and raft foundations in permanent ground contact
  • Refurbishment of old, cracking bituminous membranes
  • Plinth protection in splash-water zones
  • Floor-to-wall junction sealing in below-grade rooms
  • Podium and deck waterproofing under paver or tile finishes
  • Structural elements requiring UV- and frost-stable exposed coating

Key advantages

  • Genuine one-component system, no batching errors on site
  • Bitumen-free and solvent-free, safer in enclosed basements
  • High flexibility bridges live hairline cracks
  • Built-in colour-change cure indicator, dark to light grey
  • ETA-18/0325 approved and EN 14891 certified, third-party backed
  • Can be plastered, tiled or painted over directly
  • Frost, UV and ageing resistant, and radon-impermeable
  • Brush, trowel or pump-spray application for different job sizes

Limitations & considerations

  • Coverage must be matched to the correct DIN water-exposure class, not applied at a flat rate regardless of water load
  • Needs 5-35°C air and substrate temperature and roughly six hours of rain protection after the final coat, so it is weather-sensitive to schedule
  • Costs noticeably more per kilogram than a basic bituminous coating, which matters on tight budgets
  • Substrate has to be sound, primed and pore-free; it is not forgiving of dusty, friable or actively wet-running surfaces
  • The data sheet does not carry a potable-water tank approval, so confirm with MC-Bauchemie separately before using it inside a drinking-water tank
  • Sold only in 30 kg pails, so there is no small trial pack for a first-time user to test on a tiny patch

Selection & best practice

Pre-wet mineral substrates before priming, fill anything deeper than 5 mm with a repair mortar, and form a mineral-mortar fillet at every floor-to-wall junction before coating starts. Apply the first coat over a surface-dry primer or thin scratch coat, then lay the second coat wet-on-wet for a monolithic film — never leave a gap mid-wall, since interruptions at corners and edges are not allowed and any restart needs a 10-20 cm overlap. Keep it out of direct sun during application, protect it from rain for about six hours until rain-resistant, and confirm full cure with a witness sample before backfilling.

Industry use cases

Residential basement retrofit, Delhi NCR

Applied over existing damp masonry basement walls in a South Delhi bungalow to stop seasonal seepage without a full bituminous tear-off.

Podium terraces, Gurugram high-rise

Used under tile bedding on exposed terraces where crack-bridging and UV stability were needed ahead of screed and tiling.

New-build basement box, Noida commercial project

Applied to the external face of RCC retaining walls and the raft edge before backfill, where the wall sits in permanent contact with wet soil.

Renovation of an older residential terrace, Delhi

Overcoated an ageing, cracking bitumen membrane on a terrace parapet, restoring watertightness without stripping the old membrane back to bare concrete.

Compound wall plinth protection

Sealed plinth masonry exposed to splash water at ground level, where a fast-curing single-component coat suited a short site visit.

Frequently asked questions

Is MC-Proof one the same thing as a bituminous waterproofing coating?
No. It is explicitly bitumen-free and solvent-free — a reactive polymer coating, not a tar-based product — which is why it has no solvent odour and can be recoated or refurbished directly over an old bitumen membrane.
Can MC-Proof one be tiled or plastered over once it has cured?
Yes, the data sheet lists it as paintable and renderable once fully dry, which is why it’s commonly used under terrace tiling and behind plaster finishes on basement walls.
How many coats does it actually need?
Two coats applied wet-on-wet, with total consumption set by the water-exposure class of the job — roughly 2.9 kg/m² for moderate, non-pressurised dampness up to about 5.8 kg/m² for higher, near-pressurised water loads.
Is it safe to use inside a drinking-water tank?
The data sheet carries no potable-water approval, so we would not specify it for a drinking-water tank without written confirmation from MC-Bauchemie; for general below-grade and terrace waterproofing it’s well within its rated use.
What’s the shelf life and how should unused pails be stored?
Twelve months minimum in the original, unopened pail, kept dry between 5°C and 30°C — check the manufacture date on-site before committing to a large pour.
Can it handle a basement with real hydrostatic pressure, or only damp soil?
It’s rated across both moderate (W4-E) and higher, near-pressurised (W2.1-E) water-exposure classes, but the higher class needs the full ~5.8 kg/m² build — under-dosing a genuinely wet basement is the most common reason it fails.

How we position MC-Bauchemie MC-Proof one

Within MC-Bauchemie’s own range, MC-Proof one is the fast, one-component route; MC-Proof eco is the two-component alternative for teams who prefer a mix-and-apply slurry, MC-Proof SLM handles self-levelling horizontal work, MC-Proof 600 Xtra pairs crack-bridging waterproofing with an OS 5b protective topcoat, and MC-Injekt GL-95 TR covers active leak injection rather than surface coating. Outside the MC-Bauchemie stable, a specifier weighing a traditional two-component cementitious coating instead would reasonably look at Fosroc Brushbond Ultraflex, which covers similar basement, terrace and water-tank duty with a more familiar site-mixed system.
