Dr. Fixit Flexshield TPO
A hot-air welded TPO single-ply membrane for India’s biggest exposed roofs — warehouse decks, IT-park terraces and podium slabs that need a factory-made, weldable waterproofing skin rather than a site-mixed coating.
What is it?
A 1.2mm or 1.5mm reinforced thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) sheet, hot-melt extruded around a polyester scrim, supplied in 2m x 20m rolls and hot-air welded at every joint into one continuous sheet.
Where is it used?
Large flat commercial, institutional and industrial roofs — warehouse and factory decks, IT-park and mall terraces, podium roofs over basements and parking, and re-roofing over tired bitumen systems.
Why use it?
TPO combines rubber-like flexibility with the weldability and UV/ozone/heat stability of a thermoplastic; being chlorine-, plasticizer- and phthalate-free, it avoids the slow embrittlement seen in some PVC-type sheets, and its reflective surface cuts roof temperatures.
How is it applied?
Rolled over prepared insulation or screed, loose-laid on flat areas and fully bonded with contact adhesive on parapets, with a minimum 80mm overlap hot-air welded by automatic or hand-held machines, edges sealed with an aluminium termination bar.
About Dr. Fixit Flexshield TPO
Dr. Fixit Flexshield TPO is Pidilite’s factory-manufactured single-ply roofing membrane, part of the Dr. Fixit “large projects” range rather than the retail coatings shelf. It is built by hot-melt extrusion, encapsulating a polyester scrim between a tough TPO top and bottom ply so the reinforcement never sees direct weather exposure. It ships in 1.2mm and 1.5mm reinforced thicknesses as 2m x 20m rolls, tested against ASTM D6878, which sets minimums on breaking strength, tear strength, puncture resistance, seam strength, brittleness point and heat-ageing that the published typical values clear comfortably.
What sets it apart from Dr. Fixit’s familiar liquid-applied and torch-on products is the installation logic: instead of curing as a coating or flame-bonding like an APP sheet, panels are hot-air welded edge to edge into a homogenous membrane. For an applicator, that means the product is only as good as the welding crew running it — seam quality, not the sheet, usually decides whether a roof lasts fifteen years or leaks in three. We specify and apply it on large commercial roofs across Delhi NCR where its chemical and puncture resistance make it a genuine alternative to APP or EPDM sheet systems, not on small, heavily-detailed residential terraces, where a liquid-applied Dr. Fixit system remains more practical.
The technical insight
The detail worth knowing is scrim encapsulation. Cheaper reinforced sheets often laminate fabric between two extruded layers, leaving the scrim exposed at cut edges; Flexshield TPO’s hot-melt extrusion fuses the ply completely around the scrim in one pass, which is what lets published puncture resistance (up to 350 lbf on the 1.5mm sheet) and tear strength (up to 578N typical) hold up under real rooftop traffic. Water vapour permeance is rated 0.10 Perms max (0.05 typical) — tight enough that the membrane doubles as a vapour barrier, useful on insulated build-ups where trapped moisture is the usual failure mode. The chlorine- and plasticizer-free chemistry also removes the plasticizer-migration embrittlement that shortens the life of some PVC-family membranes under India’s UV and heat.
Where it is used
- Large commercial and institutional flat roofs — offices, malls, hospitals, colleges
- Warehouse, logistics and factory shed roof decks over metal or RCC structure
- Podium and terrace roofs over basements, parking decks and retail plinths
- Re-roofing over degraded APP bitumen, built-up or ballasted roof systems
- Exposed roofs needing a reflective, heat-reducing white membrane surface
- Parapet and upstand waterproofing detailed within the same welded system
- Roofs in chemically aggressive settings needing acid, oil and grease resistance
- Metal deck retrofit roofing on pre-engineered building (PEB) structures
Key advantages
- Hot-air welded seams form a continuous sheet — no adhesive line to fail
- Factory-controlled thickness and quality versus a site-applied coating
- High breaking, tearing and puncture strength verified to ASTM D6878
- Chlorine-, plasticizer- and phthalate-free — no plasticizer-migration embrittlement
- Reflective white surface helps cut roof temperature and cooling load
- Very low vapour permeance doubles the membrane as a vapour control layer
- Passes 670-hour accelerated heat ageing (ASTM D573) without property loss
- Wide 2m rolls and 40 sqm coverage per roll mean fewer joints on a large roof
Limitations & considerations
- Needs a trained hot-air welding crew and equipment, not a brush-and-roller job
- Sized for large open roofs — impractical for small, fragmented terraces
- Exposed sheet can be punctured by careless foot traffic during construction
- Performance rides on weld quality — poor seams are the usual failure point
- A roof-deck membrane, not a below-grade system needing a different Dr. Fixit product
- Standard white/grey finish gives less colour flexibility than a coating system
Selection & best practice
Get the substrate right first — clean, dry, properly sloped screed or sound insulation, since trapped moisture under a welded membrane cannot dry out the way it can under a coating. Insist on daily test welds and a probe or vacuum-box check of seams rather than a visual pass, hold the 80mm minimum overlaps, and finish parapets with the sealant-plus-termination-bar detail rather than a field improvisation. Protect the membrane from traffic and debris until the roof build-up is complete, and use a certified welding crew — the one variable a spec sheet cannot guarantee.

Industry use cases
Warehousing & Logistics
Large PEB warehouse roofs across Delhi NCR’s logistics belt, where fast rollout and resistance to ponding water and UV matter more than fine detailing.
IT Parks & Commercial Campuses
Exposed podium and terrace roofs over parking and retail plinths, where the reflective surface helps control roof-top temperatures.
Re-roofing & Retrofit
Replacing degraded APP bitumen or built-up roofing on ageing buildings, where a welded overlay can avoid a full strip-out.
Institutional Buildings
Hospital, college and public-building roofs needing a durable, low-maintenance membrane over a recoat cycle.
Manufacturing & Industrial Sheds
Factory roofs exposed to oils and mild chemical fumes, where TPO outperforms a standard bituminous sheet.

How we position Dr. Fixit Flexshield TPO
Within the Dr. Fixit large-projects range, Flexshield TPO is the exposed, hot-welded option for big open roofs — alongside Dr. Fixit Torchshield (flame-bonded APP bitumen, often the more familiar choice for smaller jobs), Dr. Fixit Flexshield E45/E60 (EPDM sheet for adhesive-bonded seams), and Dr. Fixit Samshield (self-adhesive membrane for below-grade and simpler detailing). Space Arc helps specifiers pick between these based on roof size and crew skill set. There is no genuine Fosroc equivalent here — Fosroc’s India range centres on Proofex self-adhesive HDPE and Nitoproof/Brushbond coatings rather than a heat-welded TPO sheet; the closer comparison for a true TPO/FPO membrane is Sika’s Sikaplan range, but for most Indian large-roof projects the practical choice stays within the Dr. Fixit family.
