What is it?

A two-component, pigmented PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) resin waterproofing system, reinforced with embedded polyester fleece, built specifically for detailing and flashing rather than open-field roof coating.

Where is it used?

Metal roof joints and J-bolt fixings, pipe/skylight/AC-duct upstands, parapet edge flashing, precast construction joints, and junctions between concrete, metal, PVC and glass on large and specialised projects.

Why use it?

It cures rainproof in roughly 30 minutes even on cooler Delhi NCR mornings, bonds to substrates that ordinary bituminous or acrylic coatings struggle with — PVC, metal, glass, existing TPO/EPDM/PU membranes — and stays elastic where rigid detailing tape eventually cracks.

How is it applied?

Substrate-matched primer first, then two coats of catalysed resin — roughly 2.0 kg/m² wet-in with fleece embedded, followed by 1.0 kg/m² to fully saturate it — for a minimum total of 3.0 kg/m², cold-applied by brush or roller with no torch or hot-air welding involved.

About Dr. Fixit Triflex ProDetail

Most roof leaks don’t start in the middle of a flat field — they start at the edges: where a pipe punches through the slab, where a parapet meets a deck, where a metal gutter is bolted down, where two different waterproofing systems have to shake hands. Standard sheet membranes and brush-applied coatings are built for large open areas and tend to be improvised at these transitions, using cut strips, extra fillets or preformed flashing that ages differently from the field around it. Triflex ProDetail exists specifically to close that gap. It’s the Indian-market version of Triflex GmbH’s PMMA detailing resin, brought in by Pidilite under a technology tie-up and sold through the Dr. Fixit large-projects line rather than the retail range, because it is meant for people who already know how to run a two-component system on site.

That positioning matters for how Space Arc specifies it. ProDetail isn’t pitched against a can of terrace waterproofing paint — it’s pitched at the specific 5-10% of a roof or podium that is genuinely hard to seal: metal-to-concrete joints on a PEB shed, skylight upstands on an institutional building, precast panel joints on a podium deck, or a leaking junction on an existing membrane that doesn’t need the whole roof torn up, just that one detail re-done properly. As an authorised Dr. Fixit distributor and applicator, we bring in trained crews for this rather than handing over a drum and a brush, because the working window is short and the mixing has to be right the first time.

The technical insight

PMMA resins cure differently from the polyurethane, bituminous and acrylic systems most Indian applicators are used to. Instead of curing by reacting with atmospheric moisture (like a PU membrane) or by solvent evaporation (like an acrylic coating), the base resin is triggered by a peroxide catalyst dosed at 20 g per kg of resin, which starts a fast free-radical cross-linking reaction through the whole film at once — not just from the surface down. That’s why the viscosity sits at a workable 1,500 ± 500 cps for brushing and rolling, yet the pot life at 20°C is only about 15 minutes: once the catalyst is mixed in, the clock is running regardless of how much is left in the pot. It’s also why the product goes rainproof in roughly half an hour — the cure isn’t waiting on humidity or ambient drying the way a moisture-cure PU membrane is, which is a genuine advantage during short monsoon work windows.

Where it is used

  • Metal roof joints and J-bolt fixings on industrial and PEB roofing
  • Upstand detailing at pipe penetrations, skylights and AC ducts
  • Industrial metal gutter waterproofing
  • Junctions between concrete, metal, PVC and glass substrates
  • Detailing over gypsum board, drywall and cement-board partitions
  • Precast concrete construction joint treatment
  • Detail repairs over existing PVC, TPO, EPDM, PU, Polyurea or APP membranes
  • Parapet edge flashing and small internal water features

Key advantages

  • Rainproof in about 30 minutes, useful for tight monsoon work windows
  • Bonds to substrates other coatings struggle with — PVC, metal, glass, cured membranes
  • Stays elastic and crack-bridging (≥40% elongation with fleece) rather than going brittle like tape
  • Seamless, fully bonded detail with no laps or seams to fail, unlike preformed flashing
  • Cold-applied — no torches or hot-air welding needed around sensitive details or occupied buildings
  • High tensile and tear strength once reinforced with the embedded fleece
  • ETA/CE-documented system with stated fire class and FLL root-resistance data, relevant on green roofs
  • Works as a targeted retrofit patch over a failing membrane junction without stripping the whole roof

Limitations & considerations

  • It’s a detailing product, not a field membrane — the open roof still needs a compatible main waterproofing coat
  • Pot life is only about 15 minutes at 20°C, so batches must be mixed small and applied fast or wastage follows
  • Primer selection is substrate-specific across four different primers, adding a technical step non-specialists can get wrong
  • Solvent-free doesn’t mean odour-free — the characteristic methacrylate smell during application needs ventilation and PPE
  • Costs more per square metre than bituminous detailing tape or a cementitious fillet, so it’s justified where the detail truly demands it
  • Sold only in project-sized 15 kg drums with matched catalyst and fleece packs — no small pack for spot DIY touch-ups

Selection & best practice

Mix only what your crew can apply within the 15-minute pot life, and never try to extend a batch with extra resin once it starts to gel. Match the primer exactly to the substrate — concrete/APP/SBS, metal, glass and membrane surfaces each need their own primer and recoat window — and confirm surface temperature is at least 3°C above dew point before starting, per DIN 4108-5, to avoid a moisture film ruining adhesion. Let the detail cure a full 14 days before it’s load-tested or flooded, and treat mixing and fleece embedding as a trained-crew job rather than a paint-on coating.

Frequently asked questions

Can Triflex ProDetail waterproof my entire terrace on its own?
No — it’s a detailing and flashing resin, not a full-field membrane. Space Arc typically specifies it at upstands, joints and junctions alongside a main waterproofing coat such as Dr. Fixit Aquashield PU or Roofseal across the open roof area.
How fast can it handle rain after application — does that help during monsoon work breaks?
The cured film is rainproof in about 30 minutes at 20°C, which is why contractors like it for tight monsoon windows, though the detail still needs a minimum 14-day cure before it’s load- or immersion-tested.
Does it need a special primer, or will any primer work?
Primer selection is substrate-specific — Cryl Primer 222 for concrete/APP/SBS membrane, Metal Primer for steel and GI, Glass Primer for glass, and 610 Primer for TPO/FPO/EPDM membranes — each with its own coverage rate and recoat window, so it isn’t a one-primer-fits-all product.
What packaging does it come in — is there a small pack for touch-ups?
It’s supplied as a 15 kg metal drum with a matched 0.5 kg catalyst pack and a 0.52 m × 50 m fleece roll. There’s no small tube pack, so it’s specified for project quantities rather than spot DIY repair.
Can a regular painter apply this, or does it need a trained crew?
Because the pot life is only about 15 minutes at 20°C and the catalyst has to be dosed and mixed accurately before the fleece is embedded wet-on-wet, Space Arc applies it with trained crews rather than treating it as a paint-on coating.
Can it be used to fix a leaking joint on a membrane that’s already installed?
Yes — that’s one of its stronger use cases. With the correct primer it bonds to existing PVC, TPO, EPDM, PU, Polyurea or APP membranes, so a leaking junction can often be re-detailed without tearing out the whole roof system.

How we position Dr. Fixit Triflex ProDetail

Within the Dr. Fixit range, ProDetail is a specialist large-projects product rather than a retail SKU — it’s meant to be paired with a main-field system such as Dr. Fixit Aquashield PU or Roofseal on the open roof, with Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP handling structural crack repair before detailing begins. Space Arc’s Fosroc line, which we also distribute, has no true PMMA-resin equivalent: Nitoproof 600 is a capable one-component polyurethane liquid membrane for field waterproofing, and Brushbond TGP handles crystalline tanking, but neither matches ProDetail’s cold-cure, fleece-reinforced performance at movement joints and dissimilar-substrate junctions. For that specific job — sealing the detail, not the field — ProDetail, brought in through the Triflex-Dr. Fixit tie-up, remains the more direct specification.
