What is it?

A light-brown liquid admixture from STP Ltd that does two jobs in one dose: it accelerates the setting of concrete or mortar and plasticises the mix, with nil chloride content. Conforms to IS 9103:1999 and ASTM C494.

Where is it used?

Precast production of blocks, pipes, lintels, manhole covers and electric poles, plus cold-weather concreting and quick-setting repair mortars on site.

Why use it?

It brings initial set forward by 45-60 minutes and builds early strength for faster form stripping, without the reinforcement-corrosion risk that chloride-based accelerators carry.

How is it applied?

Dosed at 0.40 to 1.6 litres per 50 kg bag of cement, added to the gauging water or metered in during mixing; the exact rate is fixed by a site trial.

About STP ShaliPlast FS2

ShaliPlast FS2 is STP Ltd’s chloride-free answer to a problem every precast manager and winter-season contractor knows well: concrete that will not let go of its formwork on schedule. It is a multipurpose liquid admixture that accelerates the normal setting of concrete and mortar while simultaneously improving workability, so the mix places easily and then hardens ahead of the clock. Tested to IS 8142 and ASTM C403, it typically advances setting time by 45 to 60 minutes, and it conforms to IS 9103:1999 and ASTM C494 — the two references most Indian consultants ask for when approving an admixture.

The FS2 designation matters. Older-generation set accelerators, including the original ShaliPlast FS, relied on chloride salts, which work well but attack embedded steel over time. FS2 removes that trade-off: with nil chloride content, it can be considered for reinforced work where a chloride accelerator would be rejected outright. Beyond faster setting, the plasticising action lets you trim mixing water without losing workability, which lifts compressive and flexural strengths and reduces bleeding and segregation. Space Arc Engineering supplies ShaliPlast FS2 in 20 kg cans and 200 kg barrels across Delhi NCR and pan-India, with technical support for site dosage trials.

The technical insight

Setting time in concrete is governed by how quickly the cement’s calcium silicates hydrate and knit into a rigid structure. ShaliPlast FS2 works on both ends of this process. Its chloride-free accelerating salts raise the early rate of cement hydration, so the dormant period shortens and the paste stiffens 45-60 minutes sooner, with early strength following close behind. At the same time, its plasticising fraction disperses cement grains that would otherwise clump, freeing trapped water. That is why the mix stays workable even as you cut water content — and a lower water-cement ratio is precisely what drives the higher compressive and flexural strengths STP reports. Because acceleration depends on cement quality, aggregate grading and ambient temperature, the response is dose-sensitive: the same 1 litre per bag can behave differently in a Delhi winter than a Chennai summer, which is why site trials are non-negotiable.

Where it is used

  • Precast concrete blocks and pipes needing early demoulding for faster mould turnover
  • Precast manhole covers and electric poles on production-line schedules
  • Lintels, stepping stones and small cast elements in volume production
  • Cold-weather concreting where low temperatures stall normal setting
  • Repair and maintenance mortars that must set quickly to reopen areas to service
  • Early formwork stripping on RCC jobs running compressed construction cycles
  • Plain concrete and mortar works where rapid strength development shortens the programme
  • Infrastructure pours where shuttering material must be recycled quickly between bays

Key advantages

  • Nil chloride content, so it does not introduce corrosion risk to embedded reinforcement
  • Advances setting time by 45-60 minutes, verified to IS 8142 and ASTM C403
  • High early strength lets formwork come off sooner, cutting shuttering cost per cast
  • Dual action: reduces water demand without any loss of workability
  • Minimises bleeding and segregation for a more uniform, better-finished concrete
  • Performs well in winter working, keeping cold-season pours on programme
  • Compatible with most normal cements and with other STP admixtures
  • Conforms to IS 9103:1999 and ASTM C494, easing consultant approval

Limitations & considerations

  • Dosage cannot be taken off the label: acceleration varies with cement quality, aggregate grading and temperature, so a preliminary site trial is essential
  • It is not an antifreeze — it speeds hydration in cool weather but does not protect against sub-zero conditions, where STP’s cold-weather admixture ShaliPlast LT is the correct product
  • Faster setting means shorter working time; placing, compacting and finishing crews must be resourced for the reduced window
  • Overdosing beyond the 1.6 L per 50 kg cement ceiling risks erratic set behaviour, so accurate dispensing equipment is needed at the batching point
  • Shelf life is 12 months in sealed containers stored at 5-38°C away from sunlight and heat; stock rotation matters in hot Indian warehouses

Selection & best practice

Start with a trial mix under actual site conditions — same cement, same aggregates, same ambient temperature — bracketing dosages within the 0.40 to 1.6 litres per 50 kg bag of cement range until you hit the target demould or stripping time. Once fixed, add ShaliPlast FS2 during the mixing cycle through a calibrated dosing device, or dissolve it into the gauging water; never sprinkle it onto dry cement or a finished mix. Keep the mixing sequence consistent between batches, because set acceleration is sensitive to timing as much as to dose. If you are combining it with other STP admixtures, introduce them separately rather than pre-blending concentrates, and confirm the combination in the same trial. In cold weather, protect fresh casts from heat loss as usual — the admixture accelerates hydration but good curing practice still decides final quality. Store cans in shade, sealed, between 5 and 38°C.

Industry use cases

Precast Yards

Pole, manhole-cover, block and pipe manufacturers use FS2 to demould earlier, turning each mould over more times per shift without adding mould inventory.

Cold-Climate Infrastructure

Contractors in North India and hill states keep winter pours on schedule when low temperatures would otherwise stretch setting times well past plan.

Repair & Maintenance

Quick-setting repair mortars for industrial floors, drains and utility works let plants and roads return to service within the same shift.

Mass Housing & RCC Works

Builders running tight slab cycles strip and redeploy shuttering sooner, compressing floor-to-floor timelines on repetitive structures.

Block & Paver Units

Small and mid-size product units gain early handling strength, reducing breakage in de-stacking and speeding despatch from the curing yard.

Frequently asked questions

Is ShaliPlast FS2 safe to use in reinforced concrete?
Yes. Its chloride content is nil, so it does not introduce the chloride-induced rebar corrosion risk that older accelerators carry. That is the main reason FS2 exists as the successor to chloride-bearing products.
What dosage should I use?
STP’s range is 0.40 to 1.6 litres per 50 kg bag of cement, but the right figure depends on your cement, aggregates and site temperature. Run a preliminary trial mix on site before production batching.
How much faster will my concrete set?
Typically 45 to 60 minutes earlier than an untreated mix, measured per IS 8142 / ASTM C403 at 27°C. In colder weather the absolute gain differs, which the site trial will confirm.
Can it be used as an antifreeze admixture?
No. FS2 is excellent for winter working because it speeds hydration, but it does not stop concrete freezing. For genuinely sub-zero conditions, use STP’s ShaliPlast LT cold-weather admixture instead.
What pack sizes are available and how long does it keep?
Space Arc supplies 20 kg cans and 200 kg barrels. Shelf life is 12 months in unopened containers stored at 5-38°C, away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
Will it work with my cement and other admixtures?
FS2 suits most normal cements and is compatible with other STP admixtures. Dose each product separately during mixing rather than pre-blending, and verify the combination in your site trial.

How we position STP ShaliPlast FS2

Within STP’s admixture family, ShaliPlast FS2 is the set-acceleration specialist: pick it when demould time or early stripping drives the programme. For genuinely sub-zero concreting, step across to ShaliPlast LT, which is formulated for cold-weather protection rather than simple acceleration. Where the goal is water reduction and workability retention rather than faster setting — pumped concrete, congested reinforcement, long hauls — STP’s ShaliPlast superplasticiser range is the better tool, and FS2 can partner with it in trial-verified combinations. Specifiers standardised on Fosroc will find the closest equivalent in Conplast NC, a formate-based chloride-free accelerator we also stock, so a project can hold one performance specification across either brand. Space Arc Engineering supplies and supports both lines across Delhi NCR and pan-India, including dosage trials and consultant documentation.
