What is it?

A yellow, ~120 mm wide crack-bridging sealing tape with a thermoplastic-elastomer (TPE) core and a polypropylene fleece backing, embedded into Sika liquid waterproofing systems.

Where is it used?

Internal and external wet areas: bathroom and toilet floor-to-wall junctions, floor drains, pipe penetrations, balconies, terraces, swimming pools and water-retaining structures under tiles.

Why use it?

It bridges movement cracks and reinforces the membrane at detail points, cutting the risk of leaks where a brush- or trowel-applied coating alone is most likely to tear.

How is it applied?

Embedded into the first wet coat of a compatible Sika membrane, lapped a minimum 50 mm at joins, then over-coated with a second layer so the fleece is fully encapsulated.

About Sika SealTape F

Sika SealTape F is a factory-made detailing tape that does one job extremely well: it strengthens a liquid-applied waterproofing membrane at the points where movement and water pressure concentrate. Anyone who has chased a leaking bathroom knows the coating rarely fails in the open field, it fails at the skirting corner, around the floor trap, or where a pipe pushes through the slab. This tape is designed to sit precisely in those junctions. Its core is a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) sealing layer carried on a polypropylene fleece; the fleece grips the wet membrane while the elastomer core stretches to absorb structural movement. The tape is roughly 120 mm wide and only about 0.66 mm thick, so it disappears into the coating build-up without creating a hard ridge under tiles.

For Indian site conditions, its appeal is practical. It is watertight to at least 1.5 bar, resists UV so exposed balcony details do not degrade, and works across a service range of -30 degrees C to +90 degrees C, comfortably covering terrace surface temperatures in peak summer. Sika supplies it as a system: alongside the roll, a family of preformed pieces, inside corners, outside corners, wall patches and floor patches, lets a contractor detail an awkward junction cleanly instead of folding and creasing tape by hand. As an authorised Sika distributor and applicator, Space Arc supplies SealTape F with the compatible membrane and application guidance across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, so the tape and the coating it depends on arrive from one accountable source.

The technical insight

The performance comes from a deliberate split of duties between two layers. The polypropylene fleece on each face is porous and open, so when it is pressed into a wet cementitious or polymer membrane the coating penetrates the fibres and locks the tape mechanically to the substrate; there is no reliance on a separate adhesive that could debond in permanently damp conditions. Sandwiched between the fleece is the TPE film, and this is the part that actually keeps water out and accommodates movement. Its lateral elongation is very high, at least 200 percent to break, which means a hairline crack opening beneath the detail simply stretches the film rather than tearing the waterproofing. Longitudinally the tape is far stiffer (at least 50 percent elongation, tensile strength at least 85 N per 15 mm) so it holds its line during installation and does not neck down when pulled taut along a corner. Because the film also has an equivalent air-layer thickness for water vapour of Sd greater than or equal to 7 m, the detail resists vapour drive as well as liquid water. The practical takeaway: the tape does not waterproof on its own, it turns the vulnerable joints of a membrane into the strongest part of the system, provided it is fully embedded top and bottom.

Where it is used

  • Sealing internal floor-to-wall corners and skirting junctions in bathrooms, toilets and utility areas
  • Waterproofing around floor drains, gullies and pipe penetrations before tiling
  • Detailing wet rooms in commercial buildings, catering kitchens and car washes
  • Reinforcing balcony and terrace membranes at parapet and drain junctions
  • Crack-bridging over construction joints and shrinkage cracks in wet-area screeds
  • Sealing detail points in swimming pools and water-retaining structures under ceramic finishes
  • Waterproofing cold-storage floor and wall junctions where movement and temperature swing
  • Bridging substrate transitions where two different materials meet under a membrane

Key advantages

  • Very high lateral elongation (at least 200 percent) bridges live cracks without splitting
  • Mechanically locks into the wet membrane via its polypropylene fleece, no separate adhesive to fail
  • Watertight to a minimum of 1.5 bar of positive water pressure
  • UV resistant beyond 500 hours, suitable for exposed balcony and terrace details
  • Wide service temperature range of -30 degrees C to +90 degrees C suits Indian roof and cold-store use
  • Thin ~0.66 mm profile embeds cleanly under tiles with no hard ridge
  • Preformed corners and patches speed up detailing and remove hand-folding errors
  • Chemical and rot resistant, so it survives long-term damp exposure

Limitations & considerations

  • Not a standalone waterproofer, it only works embedded within a compatible Sika liquid membrane
  • Not suitable for direct contact with solvent-based sealants or adhesives
  • Bond depends on a clean, sound, dry substrate free of dust, oil, laitance and old residue
  • Correct performance needs full encapsulation, an unbedded or under-lapped edge (below 50 mm) is a leak path
  • Ambient and substrate temperatures should sit between +5 degrees C and +25 degrees C during application, per the membrane data sheet
  • Detail quality is installer-dependent, poor troweling can trap air behind the fleece

Selection & best practice

Prepare every junction first: the substrate must be stable, clean, dry and free of dust, oil, curing compound, laitance or efflorescence, and smooth surfaces should be lightly roughened to improve grip. Apply the first coat of the chosen Sika membrane and, while it is still wet, press the tape firmly into it with a smoothing trowel or spatula so the coating bleeds through the fleece with no air pockets. Overlap adjoining lengths by at least 50 mm. At corners and penetrations use the matching preformed inside corner, outside corner, wall patch or floor patch rather than creasing the roll; for pipes, keep a minimum 4 mm of the stretchable section in contact with the pipe surface. Where you expect real movement across a crack, leave a small loop of tape over the crack so it can flex. Once the first layer has hardened, apply a second coat of the same membrane over the tape to fully encapsulate it, then tile or finish per the membrane data sheet.

Frequently asked questions

Is Sika SealTape F a waterproofing product on its own?
No. It is a detailing and crack-bridging tape that only works when embedded between two coats of a compatible Sika liquid membrane. It reinforces the membrane at joints and penetrations rather than replacing it.
Which Sika membranes is it used with?
It is designed to work with Sika liquid waterproofing systems such as Sikalastic-1K, Sikalastic-152, Sikalastic-220 W, SikaCeram-500 Ceralastic and SikaCeram Sealing Fix. For any product not listed, confirm compatibility through Sika Technical Services.
What width and roll sizes are available?
The tape is roughly 120 mm wide and supplied in rolls of about 10 m or 50 m. Matching preformed inside corners, outside corners, wall patches and floor patches are available for detailing junctions.
How much overlap is needed at joins?
Overlap adjoining lengths by a minimum of 50 mm and press the lap fully into the wet membrane so both edges are encapsulated. A short-lapped or unbedded edge is a common cause of leaks.
Can it be left exposed on a balcony or terrace?
The tape itself is UV resistant beyond 500 hours, but the membrane over it dictates whether the finished detail can stay exposed. Follow the over-coating and finishing requirements of the membrane data sheet.
Does Space Arc supply it Pan-India with the matching membrane?
Yes. As an authorised Sika distributor and applicator, Space Arc supplies SealTape F together with the compatible waterproofing membrane and application guidance across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.

How we position Sika SealTape F

Sika SealTape F is the detailing layer, not the whole waterproofing system, so it is best specified alongside its intended Sika partners. For the membrane itself, pair it with Sikalastic-1K or Sikalastic-152 for polymer-modified wet-area coatings, or SikaCeram-500 Ceralastic where a cementitious waterproofing mortar suits the substrate; for pool and water-retaining details, Sikalastic-220 W carries an ETAG 022 assessment. Where a joint needs a gun-applied elastic sealant rather than a bedded tape, look to Sika’s Sikaflex polyurethane range instead. Across our other brands, contractors detailing large below-ground or podium decks may prefer a Fosroc Proofex membrane system for those structures, and Dr. Fixit or Master Builders Solutions wet-area kits where a full brand-matched system is already specified. We supply from all these ranges so the tape, the membrane and the sealant come from one coordinated source rather than mixed piecemeal.
