What is it?

A two-component, low-viscosity epoxy injection resin from Sika that fills and structurally rebonds fine-to-medium cracks up to 5 mm wide in concrete and other rigid substrates.

Where is it used?

Bridges, columns, beams, foundations, floor slabs, walls and water-retaining structures across civil, industrial and residential projects.

Why use it?

Its very low viscosity lets it wick deep into hairline cracks, and it cures shrinkage-free to develop compressive strength around 65 N/mm2, so the repaired section behaves monolithically again.

How is it applied?

Cracks are surface-sealed with Sikadur-31, packers are set along the line, and the mixed resin is gravity-poured or pump-injected until it oozes from the next port.

About Sika Sikadur-52 LP (IN) Low Viscosity Injection Resin

Sikadur-52 LP (IN) is Sika’s India-specification version of its long-established structural crack-injection resin. It is a two-part epoxy: a colourless base (Part A) and a pale-yellow hardener (Part B) that are combined in a fixed 0.80:0.20 weight ratio and cure to a clear, pale-yellow solid. What sets it apart from a repair mortar is its consistency. At roughly 250 mPa.s at 30 degrees C it flows almost like a thin oil, so it travels along the full depth of a crack rather than sitting on the surface. That is why the product is not troweled on but injected or gravity-fed into the crack itself. Despite the “SLV Mortar” label sometimes seen locally, this is an injection liquid, not a screed or levelling mortar.

The resin is moisture-insensitive, which is a practical advantage on Indian sites where slabs, basements and water-retaining structures are rarely bone dry. It bonds to damp as well as dry concrete, mortar, stone, steel and wood, and it hardens without shrinkage so the bond line stays intact. Once cured it is hard but not brittle, chemically resistant and forms a barrier against water ingress and corrosion-promoting media. It carries an ASTM C881 Type II and IV, Grade 1, Class E+F classification, and is supplied as a pre-batched 1 kg (A+B) unit that eliminates site-mixing errors on the ratio.

The technical insight

Structural crack injection works only if the resin actually reaches the crack tip, and that is a viscosity problem. A crack a few tenths of a millimetre wide behaves like a very fine capillary: the thinner the liquid, the further it is drawn in and the more complete the fill. Sikadur-52 LP is engineered for exactly this, holding a viscosity of about 250 mPa.s at 30 degrees C so it penetrates cracks that a paste or mortar could never enter. Because it is 100 percent solids and cures without solvent evaporation, there is no shrinkage or void formation as it sets, so the hardened resin transfers load across the crack faces and the member regains its monolithic behaviour. The epoxy chemistry also tolerates surface moisture, displacing thin films of water to wet out and grip the substrate, which is why it can be used on damp concrete where many resins would debond. The trade-off is temperature-dependent pot life, roughly 50 minutes for a 1 kg mix at 30 degrees C, so the working window shrinks as ambient heat rises.

Where it is used

  • Pressure injection of fine-to-medium structural cracks in columns, beams and foundations
  • Gravity filling of dormant cracks in horizontal floor slabs between sealant dams
  • Sealing voids and honeycombing in concrete to restore load transfer
  • Crack repair in bridges, flyovers and other civil-engineering structures
  • Rebonding cracks in water-retaining structures, basements and retaining walls
  • Structural bonding of concrete sections and re-anchoring in stone and masonry
  • Repair of cracked steel and timber elements where an epoxy bond is required
  • Creating a moisture and corrosion barrier along injected crack paths

Key advantages

  • Very low viscosity for deep penetration into narrow cracks down to hairline widths
  • Moisture-insensitive, so it bonds to both dry and damp substrates
  • Solvent-free and shrinkage-free curing keeps the bond line void-free
  • High mechanical and adhesive strength, with compressive strength around 65 N/mm2
  • Hard but not brittle, resisting the load reversals a repaired member sees in service
  • Pre-batched 1 kg A+B unit removes on-site ratio errors
  • Injectable with simple single-component pumps, keeping equipment needs low
  • ASTM C881 Type II and IV classified for structural epoxy injection

Limitations & considerations

  • Not a levelling or repair mortar, it cannot be troweled or used to build up thickness
  • Suitable for dry and damp cracks but not for injection under actively flowing water
  • Maximum crack width is 5 mm; wider cracks need a different Sika solution or technical advice
  • Pot life is short and drops with heat, roughly 50 minutes per kg at 30 degrees C
  • Substrate temperature must stay within +10 to +40 degrees C during application
  • Only for dormant (non-moving) cracks; live or moving joints need a flexible sealant instead

Selection & best practice

Success is decided by preparation. Cracks must be sound, clean and free of oil, grease and old coatings, opened up and blown out with compressed air. Seal the crack mouth and, on slabs that run through to the soffit, the underside as well with Sikadur-31 epoxy mortar so the resin cannot escape during injection. Set injection ports along the crack line at roughly 25 cm centres. Add all of Part B to Part A and mix with an electric stirrer at low speed (maximum 250 rpm) for at least three minutes, taking care not to whip in air. Inject horizontal cracks from one end to the other and vertical cracks from the lowest port upwards, sealing each port once resin appears at the next. Work within the pot life, split large batches in hot weather, and clean tools immediately with Sika Colma-Cleaner since cured resin can only be removed mechanically.

Frequently asked questions

Is Sikadur-52 LP a mortar or an injection resin?
It is an injection resin, not a mortar. Despite the SLV Mortar label sometimes used locally, it is a thin, pourable epoxy liquid designed to be injected or gravity-fed into cracks, not troweled or used to build up thickness.
What crack widths can it handle?
It is intended for fine-to-medium cracks up to 5 mm wide. For cracks wider than 5 mm you should contact Sika’s technical team or use a suitable gel or paste-grade product instead.
Can it be used on damp concrete?
Yes. It is moisture-insensitive and bonds to both dry and damp substrates, which suits Indian basements and water-retaining structures. It is not, however, for injection under actively flowing or standing water.
What is the mixing ratio and pot life?
The pre-batched unit is combined at 0.80 Part A to 0.20 Part B by weight. Pot life is roughly 50 minutes for a 1 kg mix at 30 degrees C, and it shortens as temperature or batch size increases.
How strong is the cured resin?
After 7 days of curing at 30 degrees C it reaches around 65 N/mm2 compressive strength and about 50 N/mm2 tensile strength, and it cures shrinkage-free so the bond line stays sound.
What do I need to seal the crack before injecting?
The crack mouth is typically surface-sealed with Sikadur-31 epoxy mortar, and injection ports are set along the crack line before the resin is pumped in. Tools should be cleaned with Sika Colma-Cleaner immediately after use.

How we position Sika Sikadur-52 LP (IN) Low Viscosity Injection Resin

Sikadur-52 LP (IN) sits at the low-viscosity, structural end of Sika’s crack-repair range. Where the crack is too wide for injection or you need a paste to rebuild a section, move to Sikadur-31 epoxy mortar, which also serves as the surface-sealing and port-fixing product for injection work. For pump-based crack sealing the resin pairs with Sika injection pumps and Sika Colma-Cleaner for equipment cleaning.
