What is it?

Nitoflor SL2000 UF is a flow-applied, self-smoothing polyurethane (PU) cementitious floor topping from Fosroc, the fine-finish grade in the SL2000 U family. It is a three-component, solvent-free system (coloured liquid base, hardener and graded aggregate) that cures to a dense, impervious, seamless floor.

Where is it used?

Medium-duty industrial floors in food and beverage production, dairy and meat processing, breweries, pharmaceutical clean and process areas, commercial kitchens and engineering/process plants — anywhere wash-downs, spillage and hygiene matter.

Why use it?

It delivers the chemical and thermal-shock resistance of PU cement with a smoother, more decorative self-levelling finish than coved heavy-duty screeds, giving a hygienic, joint-free, easy-to-clean surface that resists organic acids, fats, oils and frequent cleaning.

How is it applied?

Specialist applicators prepare the concrete (grinding or shot-blasting to RC30 / 25 MPa min), apply a primer/scratch coat, then power-mix and pour the topping, levelling with a notched trowel and de-aerating with a spiked roller to a nominal 2 mm at roughly 6.8 m2 per pack.

About Fosroc Nitoflor SL2000 UF

Fosroc Nitoflor SL2000 UF belongs to Fosroc’s Nitoflor industrial flooring range and sits within the SL2000 U family of flow-applied polyurethane (PU) cementitious floor toppings. Where the original Nitoflor SL2000 is an epoxy resin topping, the “U” denotes the PU-cement chemistry and the “F” denotes the fine, self-smoothing finish — a tighter-graded, smoother grade than the standard U topping or the coved heavy-duty screeds in the same family. It is supplied as a three-component, pre-weighed system (a pigmented liquid base, a hardener and a graded mineral aggregate) that is mixed on site and laid by trowel and spiked roller to form a dense, impervious, seamless floor. Because it is a hybrid polyurethane-cement rather than a pure epoxy, it tolerates wet processing, thermal cycling and aggressive organic acids far better than conventional epoxy self-levellers, while keeping the smooth, light-reflective, easy-clean look that food, dairy and pharmaceutical specifiers expect. The cured floor is hygienic, non-tainting and chemically resistant, and it is laid jointless except where it follows the substrate’s structural movement joints. For Indian projects, this makes SL2000 UF a strong fit for HACCP- and GMP-oriented facilities that need a robust, certifiable floor without moving to a fully textured heavy-duty screed. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies the Nitoflor range as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, with system design, surface-preparation and method-statement support to match the floor to each plant’s loading, chemistry and hygiene regime.

The technical insight

The performance edge of SL2000 UF comes from its polyurethane-cement matrix. Unlike epoxy self-levellers, PU-cement co-cures a polyurethane network with hydrating cement, which gives three practical advantages: tolerance of higher substrate moisture, resistance to thermal shock and steam cleaning, and resistance to organic/lactic/citric acids that attack epoxy. The trade-off versus the heavier 6-9 mm PU-cement screeds is that a 2 mm self-smoothing grade like UF is specified as medium-duty (broadly a BS 8204-6 Type 5 floor in the SL2000 U family), not for heavy steel-wheeled or thermal-shock-extreme zones. Two installation details govern success. First, the substrate must be sound and dry-tolerant but still meet strength: a minimum RC30 / 25 MPa concrete at 28 days, with laitance removed to expose coarse aggregate, and a primer/scratch coat applied first. Second, the system is fast-setting — a forced-action paddle mix, then pour, level and spike-roll within roughly three minutes of placing, because returning to spike-roll older areas leaves marks. Like all PU-cement, it can yellow under UV and is not colour-fast, which matters only aesthetically, not structurally. Where higher chemical/thermal duty or UV stability is needed, the broader Nitoflor PU-cement range (heavier UR/screed grades, or the UV-stable UB grade) extends the same chemistry.

Where it is used

  • Food and beverage production floors with frequent wet wash-downs
  • Dairy and milk-processing halls exposed to lactic acid and fats
  • Meat, poultry and seafood processing where hygiene and slip safety are critical
  • Breweries, beverage bottling and CIP (clean-in-place) areas
  • Pharmaceutical process and ancillary areas needing a hygienic, GMP-friendly floor
  • Commercial and institutional kitchens, canteens and food courts
  • Engineering and light-to-medium process plant floors
  • Cold-store anterooms, packing halls and pharma/FMCG warehouses with cleanable floors

Key advantages

  • Seamless, jointless finish (except at structural movement joints) that eliminates dirt-trapping joints
  • Polyurethane-cement chemistry resists organic acids, fats, oils, fuels and many solvents better than epoxy
  • Dense, impervious, non-tainting surface that is hygienic and easy to clean for food and pharma use
  • Good abrasion and impact resistance for medium-duty traffic
  • Tolerates thermal cycling and frequent steam/hot-water wash-down better than epoxy self-levellers
  • Solvent-free and non-flammable, suiting enclosed processing areas
  • Fast cure schedule minimises plant downtime — light foot traffic in about 12 hours at 20 C
  • Available in a range of standard Fosroc colours for zoning and brightness

Limitations & considerations

  • Medium-duty rating — not for heavy steel-wheeled traffic or extreme thermal shock; specify heavier PU-cement screeds instead
  • Smooth fine finish becomes slippery when wet; add a textured/anti-slip grade where standing water or grease is expected
  • Not colour-fast — may yellow under UV and heat, more noticeably in light and blue shades (aesthetic only)
  • Must be installed by trained specialist applicators per Fosroc method statement; not a DIY product
  • Fast-setting and short working life (order of 10-15 minutes once mixed) demands disciplined gang sizing and continuous placing
  • Requires sound concrete of at least RC30 / 25 MPa with proper preparation and a primer/scratch coat
  • Application window is temperature- and humidity-sensitive; avoid high humidity and ensure surface stays above the dew point
  • UF-specific datasheet is region-gated on fosroc.com; confirm exact thickness, coverage and pack data for the Indian SKU before ordering

Selection & best practice

Treat SL2000 UF as a system, not just a topping. Verify the slab is at least RC30 / 25 MPa, free of rising damp, and mechanically prepared (grinding or shot-blasting) to remove laitance and expose aggregate; cut anchorage grooves at edges, joints, drains and doorways to twice the topping thickness. Apply the primer/scratch coat first and let it cure 12-48 hours before the topping. Mix only full packs with a forced-action paddle mixer, then pour, level with a notched trowel and de-aerate with a spiked roller within about three minutes — never re-roll set areas. Hold ambient, material and substrate temperature in the ideal 15-25 C band, keep relative humidity in check, and keep the surface at least 3 C above dew point from priming until at least 48 hours after laying. Protect the fresh floor with breathable kraft paper (not polythene) and from water for several days. For wet or greasy zones, step up to a textured anti-slip grade; for UV-exposed or colour-critical areas, consider the UV-stable UB grade. When in doubt about loading or chemical exposure, have Space Arc Engineering confirm the right Nitoflor grade against the current Fosroc India datasheet.

Industry use cases

Food & Beverage

Processing and packing halls subject to constant wet cleaning, fats and organic acids — the PU-cement matrix resists lactic/citric/acetic exposure while the smooth finish stays hygienic and easy to clean.

Dairy & Cold Chain

Milk reception, processing and packing areas where lactic acid and frequent hot wash-downs would attack epoxy; SL2000 UF gives a jointless, cleanable, thermally tolerant floor.

Pharmaceutical & FMCG

GMP process and ancillary areas needing a dense, non-tainting, seamless floor that withstands cleaning chemicals and supports hygiene audits.

Commercial & Institutional Kitchens

Hotel, hospital, canteen and food-court kitchens where grease, hot water and constant traffic demand a durable, easy-clean surface (textured grade advised in wet zones).

Breweries & Beverage Bottling

CIP areas and bottling lines exposed to sugars, acids and wash-down water, where a seamless chemical-resistant floor reduces contamination risk.

Engineering & Light Process Plants

Medium-duty production and assembly floors that need good abrasion and impact resistance plus a clean, bright, low-maintenance surface.

Frequently asked questions

Is Nitoflor SL2000 UF epoxy or polyurethane?
It is a polyurethane (PU) cementitious floor topping, part of Fosroc’s SL2000 U range. The ‘U’ marks the PU-cement chemistry and the ‘F’ the fine self-smoothing finish. This is different from the original Nitoflor SL2000, which is an epoxy resin topping. PU-cement handles wet processing, thermal shock and organic acids better than epoxy.
How thick is it applied and what coverage should I plan for?
It is a self-smoothing grade typically laid at a nominal 2 mm. In the SL2000 U family, topping coverage is about 6.8 m2 per 27.3 kg pack at 2 mm (about 4.5 m2 at 3 mm), plus a primer/scratch coat at roughly 14 m2 per pack. Allow extra for surface texture, porosity and wastage, and confirm the exact Indian SKU figures against the current Fosroc datasheet before ordering.
What chemicals and conditions does it resist?
It resists a wide range of food, dairy and pharma chemicals including concentrated citric acid, spirit vinegar (50% acetic acid), lactic acid and common alcohols, plus many inorganic acids, fuels, mineral and hydraulic oils and solvents. Service temperature for the SL2000 U family is about -5 C to +60 C. Some staining can occur with certain chemicals without affecting durability.
How long before the floor can be used after laying?
At 20 C, the SL2000 U family typically accepts light pedestrian traffic in about 12 hours, light wheeled traffic in about 24 hours, medium-duty traffic in about 48 hours, and reaches full chemical resistance in about 7 days. Lower temperatures slow curing. These are approximate and vary with site conditions.
Can it be applied over my existing concrete floor?
Yes, onto sound concrete, polymer-modified screeds or grano concrete, provided the slab is at least RC30 / 25 MPa at 28 days, free of rising damp, and mechanically prepared to expose coarse aggregate. A primer/scratch coat is applied first. Weak, friable, contaminated or damp slabs must be repaired or treated before installation.
Is it slip-resistant, and can I get it in colours?
The fine self-smoothing finish is smooth and can become slippery when wet, so for wet or greasy areas a textured anti-slip grade is recommended. It comes in a range of standard Fosroc colours for zoning and brightness, but it is not colour-fast and may yellow under UV and heat — an aesthetic effect only, more visible in light and blue shades, with no impact on performance.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor SL2000 UF

Within the Fosroc range, Nitoflor SL2000 UF is the fine, self-smoothing medium-duty member of the SL2000 PU-cement family. It sits a step up from the epoxy Nitoflor SL2000 (better wet-area, thermal-shock and organic-acid performance) and below the heavier PU-cement screeds and coved grades used for arduous wet/thermal zones; the UV-stable Nitoflor SL2000 UB and the heavier UR/US screed grades extend the same chemistry where colour stability or higher duty is needed. Typical companion products on an Indian project include Fosroc primers/scratch coats and Nitoflor coving for hygienic floor-to-wall junctions. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering specifies SL2000 UF where a smooth, hygienic, chemically resistant floor is the priority. Credible alternatives a consultant may evaluate include Sika (Sikafloor PurCem PU-cement range), MBCC/Master Builders Solutions (Ucrete PU-cement floors), Dr. Fixit / Pidilite epoxy and PU floor coatings, and STP Limited’s flooring systems. The right choice depends on duty, chemical exposure, thermal regime and hygiene certification — Space Arc can match the grade and back it with surface-preparation and method-statement support; always confirm final values against the current Fosroc India datasheet.
