BrandFosrocCategoryWaterproofingFormNitoproof 800HT is a polyurethane-based, liquid-applied waterproofing and crack-bridging membrane system from Fosroc…

What is it?

Nitoproof 800HT is a polyurethane-based, liquid-applied waterproofing and crack-bridging membrane system from Fosroc. It cures in place to form a tough, seamless, elastomeric film with no joints or laps.

Where is it used?

Flat roofs, podium decks, balconies, walkways, planter and green/landscaped roofs, wind-turbine plinth bases, and below-ground basement structures on concrete and screed substrates.

Why use it?

It bridges shrinkage and movement cracks, accommodates substrate flexing, and forms a continuous monolithic barrier with no seams to fail, all applied cold by brush, roller or squeegee without heat or flame.

How is it applied?

Cold-applied as a three-part system: Nitoprime UR FS primer, two coats of Nitoproof 800HT membrane, and (for UV-exposed areas) a Nitoproof UVR topcoat. Below ground the membrane is used alone.

About Fosroc Nitoproof 800HT

Fosroc Nitoproof 800HT is a polyurethane-based, liquid-applied waterproofing and crack-bridging protection system designed for both new construction and the refurbishment of existing structures. Rather than arriving as a pre-formed sheet, it is supplied as a liquid that is applied cold on site and cures to form a fully bonded, seamless elastomeric membrane. Because it self-terminates into upstands, drains, pipe penetrations and complex detailing without laps or welded joints, it removes the single biggest weakness of traditional sheet systems, the seam.

The complete exposed system has three layers. First, Fosroc Nitoprime UR FS is applied to seal and key the prepared substrate. Then Nitoproof 800HT membrane is applied in two coats to build the waterproofing film, nominally around 1.4 mm wet for the standard build-up. Finally, where the surface is exposed to sunlight and foot traffic, a Nitoproof UVR topcoat is applied to give UV stability, colour and a light-to-medium-duty trafficable, easy-to-clean finish. For permanently buried or covered situations, such as below-ground basement walls and rafts under backfill or protection screeds, the membrane can be specified on its own without the topcoat.

The “HT” designation reflects the membrane’s suitability for service in hotter, more demanding exposures, which makes it well suited to Indian roof-deck and podium conditions where surface temperatures climb steeply through summer. The cured film stays flexible enough to bridge the fine cracks that concrete and screeds inevitably develop while remaining tough enough to take pedestrian traffic once topcoated. The system carries fire-performance and root-penetration resistance certifications from Fosroc, which is why it is routinely specified under green roofs, planters and landscaped podiums where roots would otherwise find and exploit any weakness. For contractors and consultants in Delhi NCR and across India, Space Arc Engineering supplies Nitoproof 800HT as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, with technical support on substrate preparation, detailing and quality control.

The technical insight

The performance of Nitoproof 800HT comes from its cured polyurethane chemistry, which delivers a rare combination of elasticity and toughness. The membrane alone develops a tensile strength of about 3.0 MPa with roughly 90% elongation at break, and when finished with the Nitoproof UVR topcoat the composite rises to about 3.2 MPa and 105% elongation. That elongation is what allows the film to stretch across an opening crack and re-close without splitting, which is the entire point of a crack-bridging membrane on a moving concrete deck. Coverage is consumption-driven rather than area-rated: the membrane is applied at roughly 0.9 m² per kg to reach the design film thickness, the Nitoprime UR FS primer covers around 3 to 8 m² per kg on concrete depending on porosity, and the Nitoproof UVR topcoat covers roughly 22 m² per 10 kg pack at a 0.3 mm film. Because the membrane is moisture and chemistry sensitive during cure, substrate dryness, ambient temperature (an application window of about +5 to +40 degrees C) and respecting the overcoat window between coats are the variables that most affect the final result on an Indian site.

Where it is used

  • Waterproofing exposed flat roofs and terraces on concrete or screed
  • Podium decks and landscaped/planter decks over occupied space
  • Balconies and walkways requiring a trafficable waterproof finish
  • Green and landscaped roofs needing root-resistant waterproofing
  • Below-ground basement walls and rafts (membrane used without topcoat)
  • Wind-turbine plinth bases and similar exposed civil structures
  • Refurbishment and re-waterproofing of ageing roof and deck membranes
  • Complex detailing around drains, upstands, gutters and pipe penetrations

Key advantages

  • Seamless, fully bonded membrane with no laps or welded joints to fail
  • Cold liquid application by brush, roller or squeegee, with no heat or open flame
  • Crack-bridging elastomer (around 90% elongation) accommodates substrate movement
  • Carries fire-performance and root-penetration resistance certification for green roofs
  • Single membrane works exposed (with UVR topcoat) or buried below ground
  • Self-terminates neatly into upstands, drains and intricate detailing
  • UVR topcoat gives a colour-stable, trafficable, easy-to-clean wearing surface
  • HT grade suited to hot exposed decks, relevant to Indian roof-temperature conditions

Limitations & considerations

  • Wet-film and total consumption must be controlled on site; under-application thins the membrane and risks pinholing
  • Requires a sound, dry, clean and properly prepared substrate; moisture or laitance compromises adhesion
  • Application is restricted to roughly +5 to +40 degrees C and dry conditions
  • The overcoat window between coats and before topcoating must be respected; long delays require Fosroc technical guidance
  • Exposed installations need the UVR topcoat for UV stability and traffic; the bare membrane is not intended to be left permanently UV-exposed
  • Polyurethane cure is sensitive to trapped moisture and high humidity, which can cause blistering or gassing if substrate isn’t dry
  • Skilled, trained applicators are needed for consistent film build and reliable detailing
  • Solvent and isocyanate handling requires correct ventilation and PPE during application

Selection & best practice

Treat substrate preparation and dryness as the project, not a preliminary. The concrete or screed must be sound, fully cured, free of laitance, oil and curing-compound residue, and dry before priming. Grind or shot-blast to a sound profile, make good blowholes, and form proper fillets at upstands. Always prime with Nitoprime UR FS and let it tack off before applying the membrane. Build the Nitoproof 800HT in two coats to the specified consumption (around 0.9 m² per kg) using a wet-film gauge to verify thickness, and apply the second coat and the UVR topcoat within the manufacturer’s overcoat window. Reinforce stress points, drains, internal corners and movement joints with detailing fabric. Work within +5 to +40 degrees C, avoid application onto a falling temperature or before rain, and flood-test horizontal areas before any overlay, screed or landscaping is placed. On Indian roof decks, schedule application for early morning to avoid peak surface temperatures, and keep wet film off ponding areas.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fosroc Nitoproof 800HT a real product?
Yes. It is a genuine Fosroc product listed on the official Fosroc website (fosroc.com/product/show/nitoproof-800ht). It is a polyurethane-based, liquid-applied waterproofing and crack-bridging membrane system, part of the wider Nitoproof range alongside products such as Nitoproof 800, 600 and the UVR topcoat.
What is the difference between Nitoproof 800 and Nitoproof 800HT?
Both are polyurethane liquid waterproofing systems built from the same primer, membrane and topcoat approach. The HT grade is positioned for higher-temperature, more demanding exposed service, which is relevant for hot Indian roof and podium decks. Always confirm the exact grade against the current Fosroc datasheet for your project, as Space Arc supplies both.
How much Nitoproof 800HT do I need per square metre?
As a guide, the membrane is applied at roughly 0.9 m² per kg to reach the standard nominal film of about 1.4 mm, the Nitoprime UR FS primer covers around 3 to 8 m² per kg on concrete depending on porosity, and the Nitoproof UVR topcoat covers about 22 m² per 10 kg pack at a 0.3 mm film. Always allow wastage for detailing, upstands and porous substrates, and verify film build with a wet-film gauge.
Can Nitoproof 800HT be left exposed to sunlight without a topcoat?
For exposed, UV-loaded and trafficable areas you should apply the Nitoproof UVR topcoat, which provides UV stability, colour and a wearing surface. The bare membrane on its own is intended for buried or covered situations, such as below-ground basements, where it can be used without the topcoat.
What surface preparation does it need?
The substrate must be sound, fully cured, clean and dry, free of laitance, dust, oil and curing-compound residue. Mechanically prepare by grinding or shot-blasting, make good blowholes and defects, form fillets at upstands, then prime with Nitoprime UR FS. Adhesion and long-term performance depend heavily on this preparation and on the substrate being genuinely dry.
How does it compare to alternatives like Sika, Dr. Fixit or STP?
Nitoproof 800HT competes with PU liquid membranes such as Sika’s Sikalastic range, the Dr. Fixit Torchshield/Roofseal PU systems, STP membranes and MBS waterproofing products. The right choice depends on substrate, exposure, traffic, root resistance and the specifier’s approvals. As a Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc can advise where Nitoproof 800HT is the better fit and where a companion Fosroc product or an alternative brand suits the spec.

How we position Fosroc Nitoproof 800HT

Within the Fosroc waterproofing range, Nitoproof 800HT sits at the higher-performance end of liquid-applied polyurethane membranes, above lighter products like Nitoproof 600/600 PF and alongside companion components Nitoprime UR FS (primer) and Nitoproof UVR Topcoat that complete the exposed system. For projects needing different chemistries, Fosroc also offers cementitious systems such as Brushbond (acrylic-modified cementitious coating) and spray-applied Fosroc Polyurea WPE for fast-track, high-build work, so the Nitoproof 800HT is best seen as the crack-bridging, cold-liquid PU option for decks, podiums and green roofs. In the broader Indian market it competes head-to-head with Sika (Sikalastic PU liquid membranes), Dr. Fixit (Torchshield/Roofseal and PU coatings), STP Limited and MBS waterproofing systems; each has comparable PU or polymer membrane offerings, and the deciding factors are usually substrate condition, UV and traffic exposure, root-resistance requirements, certification, applicator skill and project economics. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator covering Delhi NCR and pan-India, positions Nitoproof 800HT for clients who want a certified, seam-free, crack-bridging membrane backed by specification support and trained application rather than an over-the-counter coating; where another Fosroc product or a competitor brand genuinely suits the spec better, we will say so.
