BrandFosrocCategoryWaterproofingFormA cold-applied, flexible, self-adhesive waterproofing membrane built around a cross-laminated HDPE carrier film…

What is it?

A cold-applied, flexible, self-adhesive waterproofing membrane built around a cross-laminated HDPE carrier film bonded to a polymer-modified bitumen compound, supplied as 1 m x 20 m peel-and-stick rolls.

Where is it used?

Basement rafts and retaining walls, substructures, podiums, foundations and other below-ground concrete elements requiring a tanking / Type A barrier system.

Why use it?

It delivers a continuous, fully-bonded vapour and water barrier that also resists aggressive ground salts (sulphates and chlorides), without torching, hot bitumen or curing time on site.

How is it applied?

Prime the prepared concrete with Proofex Primer, peel back the release film, press the self-adhesive face onto the substrate, then roll laps (75 mm side / 150 mm end) firmly and protect before backfill.

About Fosroc Proofex 3000V

Fosroc Proofex 3000V is the self-adhesive HDPE waterproofing membrane in the Proofex tanking family, designed for the demanding below-ground conditions that Indian projects routinely face — high water tables, expansive clays, and sulphate- or chloride-rich ground in coastal and industrial belts. It is a cold-applied sheet membrane, meaning no flame, no hot bitumen kettles and no boiling on site: the contractor simply primes the deck, peels the release paper and presses the self-adhesive face onto the concrete.\n\nStructurally, the membrane is a laminate. A tough, cross-laminated high-density polyethylene (HDPE) film forms the outer carrier — it gives the sheet its dimensional stability, puncture resistance and resistance to ground chemicals — while a thick layer of polymer-modified bitumen on the underside provides the self-adhesive bond and the self-sealing, watertight body of the membrane. The two together behave very differently from a plain bituminous felt: the HDPE skin shrugs off backfill abrasion and stays stable, while the bitumen layer flows just enough to seal around minor surface imperfections and around the laps.\n\nProofex 3000V is intended as a Type A (barrier) tanking membrane and is suited to basements graded 2, 3 and 4 under BS 8102 (Protection of Structures Against Water from the Ground). It is applied to the structural concrete, then protected with Proofex Protection Board or a drainage composite such as Proofex Sheetdrain before earth or blinding goes back against it. For Space Arc’s clients — developers, PMCs and waterproofing applicators across Delhi NCR and the rest of India — the appeal is a fast, repeatable, low-skill-risk install that produces a fully-bonded membrane, so any incidental water ingress cannot track laterally between the membrane and the slab the way it can under a loose-laid sheet.\n\nThe ‘V’ designation is the variant supplied into the Indian and Middle East markets; the underlying system, chemistry and detailing are the same self-adhesive HDPE/polymer-modified bitumen membrane sold globally under the Proofex 3000 name.

The technical insight

The performance logic of Proofex 3000V rests on the fully-bonded, cross-laminated laminate. The cross-laminated HDPE carrier is what separates it from cheaper APP/SBS torch felts: cross-lamination orients the polymer in two directions, so the sheet resists tearing and stays dimensionally stable instead of creeping or shrinking against the slab over time. India-market figures quote a membrane thickness of 1.2–1.5 mm, tensile strength of 21 ± 5 MPa (ASTM D412), elongation greater than 400%, puncture resistance above 600 N (relevant to surviving backfill) and peel adhesion to primed concrete above 880 N/m — that bond figure is the number that actually matters for tanking, because a fully-adhered membrane denies water a continuous void to migrate through. The EN-tested data on the Proofex 3000 family corroborates the class: watertight to 60 kPa (Method A) and a Method B hydrostatic pass at 6 bar over 24 hours, low-temperature flexibility below -30 deg C, and a service temperature range of roughly -40 deg C to +80 deg C, comfortably covering Indian basement and podium service conditions. Two practical consequences follow: first, the Proofex Primer (tack/contact primer) is not optional — the self-adhesive bond and the peel-adhesion figures are only achieved on a clean, dry, primed, wood-float or shutter-finish substrate; second, the laps are the weak point, so the specified 75 mm side and 150 mm end overlaps must be rolled down firmly and detailed with Proofex reinforcing strip/detail tape at all wall-to-floor junctions and re-entrant angles.

Where it is used

  • Tanking of basement rafts, slabs and retaining walls in residential, commercial and mixed-use buildings
  • Waterproofing of substructures and foundations in high-water-table or coastal sites
  • Protection of below-ground concrete from aggressive ground salts (soluble sulphates and chlorides)
  • Podium decks and buried structures where a fully-bonded Type A barrier is specified
  • Underside / blindside-type tanking against blinding concrete or protection boards prior to slab pour
  • Metro, tunnel cut-and-cover and infrastructure substructure waterproofing where a self-adhesive sheet system is preferred over torch-applied felts

Key advantages

  • Cold-applied and self-adhesive — no naked flame, LPG torch or hot bitumen, improving site safety and suiting fire-restricted or occupied sites
  • Fully-bonded to the substrate, so any breach cannot allow water to track laterally between membrane and concrete
  • Cross-laminated HDPE carrier gives high puncture and tear resistance and dimensional stability against backfill
  • Chemically resistant to ground water, soluble sulphates and chlorides — well suited to aggressive Indian sub-soils
  • Fast, repeatable install with low operative-skill risk: peel, stick, roll the laps
  • Flexible enough to dress around corners, fillets and detailing while staying watertight
  • Backed by an integrated Proofex system (primer, detail strip, protection board, sheet drain, top hats) for complete, warrantable detailing

Limitations & considerations

  • Type A barrier membrane only — it is not a substitute for properly designed structural (Type B) waterproof concrete on high-risk sites; best practice is a combined approach
  • Bond and peel-adhesion performance depend entirely on correct priming and a clean, dry, sound, smooth substrate; damp or dusty decks will not adhere reliably
  • Lap integrity is operative-dependent — under-rolled or contaminated 75 mm/150 mm laps are the most common failure point
  • Must be protected (Proofex Protection Board or Sheetdrain) before backfill; exposed membrane is vulnerable to physical and UV damage and should be covered promptly
  • Application temperature window (around +5 deg C to +45 deg C) means very cold mornings or extreme summer deck temperatures need scheduling care; cold weather may need temporary batten support on vertical work
  • Not the first choice where active methane/radon ground-gas protection is the governing requirement — the Proofex 3000MR / dedicated gas-barrier variant should be specified instead
  • Self-adhesive sheet systems can be less forgiving than liquid membranes on highly congested or irregular detailing, where a liquid-applied product may complement it

Selection & best practice

Treat Proofex 3000V as a system, not just a sheet. Achieve a wood-float or shutter-finished, void-free concrete substrate, then prime fully with Proofex Primer and only prime the area you can membrane the same day. Form a fillet at all internal angles and a chamfer at external angles, and reinforce every wall-to-floor junction and re-entrant corner with Proofex Detail Strip or a 300 mm strip of the membrane before laying the main field sheets. Maintain the 75 mm minimum side lap and 150 mm minimum end lap, weather all end laps (work top-down on walls), and roll every lap firmly for full adhesion. On verticals in cool weather, provide temporary batten support. Protect the completed membrane with Proofex Protection Board or Proofex Sheetdrain before any backfill, and backfill promptly with well-graded material free of rocks or debris larger than ~50 mm. For pipe and service penetrations use Proofex top-hats and the recommended sealing tape/sealant rather than improvising. On high-risk water tables, combine the membrane with waterproof (Type B) concrete and a drainage strategy for defence in depth.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fosroc Proofex 3000V applied with a torch or hot bitumen?
No. It is a cold-applied, self-adhesive (peel-and-stick) membrane. You prime the concrete with Proofex Primer, peel the release film and press the adhesive face onto the deck — there is no flame, no LPG torch and no hot bitumen kettle, which makes it safer and faster than torch-applied felts.
What primer is required and can I skip it?
Proofex Primer (a tack/contact primer) is required and should not be skipped. The self-adhesive bond and the quoted peel-adhesion figures are only achieved on a clean, dry, sound, primed substrate. Coverage is about 6 to 8 m² per litre; only prime the area you can membrane the same day.
What overlap should be maintained between sheets?
Maintain a minimum 75 mm side (edge) lap and a minimum 150 mm end lap. Every lap must be rolled firmly to ensure full adhesion and continuity, and end laps should be weathered (work top-down on walls).
What roll size does Proofex 3000V come in and what is the coverage?
It is supplied as rolls 1 m wide x 20 m long, giving 20 m² per roll before laps. Net coverage per roll is lower once the 75 mm side and 150 mm end laps are deducted, so allow a wastage/overlap margin when estimating quantities.
Does Proofex 3000V need protection before backfilling?
Yes. The membrane must be protected from physical damage and weathering as soon as possible after application, using Proofex Protection Board or Proofex Sheetdrain. Backfill should be well-graded and free of rocks or sharp debris larger than about 50 mm, and should be placed promptly.
Can Proofex 3000V act as a methane or radon gas barrier?
For general below-ground waterproofing it performs as a vapour and water barrier, but where active ground-gas (methane/radon) protection is the governing requirement, Fosroc directs users to the dedicated Proofex 3000MR / gas-barrier variant. Always confirm the gas-protection grade with the consultant before specifying.
Is Proofex 3000V enough on its own for a deep basement with a high water table?
It is a Type A (barrier) membrane and is rated for BS 8102 basement grades 2, 3 and 4, but on deep or high-water-table sites best practice is defence in depth — combining the membrane with waterproof (Type B) concrete and an appropriate drainage strategy rather than relying on a single barrier.

How we position Fosroc Proofex 3000V

Within the Fosroc range, Proofex 3000V sits as the self-adhesive, cold-applied HDPE sheet option for below-ground tanking, and it is rarely specified in isolation: it pairs with Proofex Primer, Proofex Detail Strip/Engage for junctions, Proofex Protection Board or Proofex Sheetdrain for protection and drainage, and the Proofex top-hat range for penetrations. Where active ground-gas protection is needed, its sibling Proofex 3000MR is the correct choice; where intricate detailing dominates, a liquid-applied Fosroc system (such as a Proofex liquid membrane) can complement the sheet. Against the wider Indian market, credible alternatives a consultant might weigh include Sika’s self-adhesive and HDPE pre-applied membranes (e.g. the SikaProof and Sikaplan ranges), STP Limited’s self-adhesive bituminous membranes, MBS (My Building Shop)/MYK-class self-adhesive bitumen membranes, and from the more retail-oriented end Pidilite’s Dr. Fixit sheet and liquid waterproofing systems. The honest positioning is this: Proofex 3000V is a strong, well-detailed, fully-bonded self-adhesive sheet with a complete supporting system and recognised standards backing — its real value comes from correct substrate prep, priming and lap discipline, and from being designed into a layered waterproofing strategy rather than treated as a single line of defence. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering supplies the full Proofex system and can advise on the right variant, build-up and detailing for a given basement grade and ground condition across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.
