Fosroc Proofex DP200G
High-capacity HDPE dimpled drainage geocomposite with a bonded geotextile filter, engineered to protect and de-water waterproofing on buried walls, foundations, podium decks and tunnels.
What is it?
A factory-bonded drainage geocomposite: a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) dimpled/honeycomb core (~8 mm) heat-laminated to a non-woven polypropylene geotextile filter fabric, forming a continuous drained air-gap cavity against the structure.
Where is it used?
Against waterproofed buried retaining and basement walls, raft and foundation faces, podium and plaza decks, tunnel and box-culvert linings, bridge abutments, reservoirs and green/terrace roofs.
Why use it?
It relieves hydrostatic pressure by rapidly channelling ground and seepage water to the land drain, while the dimpled HDPE core mechanically shields the membrane from backfill damage, root intrusion and point loading during compaction.
How is it applied?
Mechanically fixed to the wall (geotextile facing the soil) with washered fasteners along the top edge, overlapped at the studded selvedge, sealed at the head with a capping/flashing profile, then backfilled in controlled lifts.
About Fosroc Proofex DP200G
Fosroc Proofex DP200G is a drained-cavity protection and drainage geocomposite from the Fosroc Proofex family, supplied in India through authorised distributors and applicators such as Space Arc Engineering across Delhi NCR and Pan-India. The product is built around a stamped, honeycomb-profiled HDPE core roughly 8 mm thick, to which a non-woven polypropylene geotextile is factory-bonded on one face. That geotextile acts as a filter: it lets water pass while holding back fines, so the dimpled HDPE channels stay open and the cavity keeps draining for the design life of the structure. In simple terms, DP200G does two jobs at once on a buried structure. First, it forms a free-draining air gap between the soil and the waterproofing system, so any water reaching the wall runs down the dimples to a perimeter land drain instead of building up as hydrostatic head against the tanking. Second, the tough HDPE core physically protects the membrane from sharp backfill, mechanical damage during compaction, and from being abraded over time. The “G” denotes the geotextile-faced grade, which removes the need to lay a separate filter fabric on site and gives more consistent long-term drainage than a bare dimple sheet. For Indian basements, podiums and infrastructure works where high water tables, monsoon recharge and aggressive backfill are routine, this combination of protection plus active de-watering is exactly what a robust below-grade detail needs. It is a passive, mechanically-fixed product: there is no mixing, no cure time and no ambient-temperature window to manage, which makes it fast to install and forgiving on busy sites. It is designed to work as the protection-and-drainage layer over a Fosroc waterproofing membrane such as Proofex Engage, Proofex 3000 or a liquid system, not as the waterproofing barrier itself.
The technical insight
The performance of a dimpled drainage geocomposite is governed by three things working together, and DP200G is engineered around all three. The first is in-plane flow capacity: water has to move laterally through the open dimple channels to reach the drain. In Fosroc’s geocomposite drainage range this is verified to BS EN ISO 12958 and is sensitive to the confining pressure and gradient, which is why a tall basement wall needs a higher-capacity profile than a shallow planter. The second is compressive resistance, characterised to ISO 25619-2: the ~200 kN/m2-class core is what keeps the dimples from collapsing under deep backfill and compaction so the drainage path survives, and high compressive-creep resistance is the property that protects that flow over decades, not just on day one. The third, and the reason for the geotextile, is filtration: a non-woven polypropylene fabric prevents soil fines from migrating into and silting up the core (the classic failure mode of bare dimple sheets), so the cavity does not blind over. Crucially, DP200G is a protection-and-drainage layer, not a vapour or water barrier in its own right; the waterproofing integrity still depends on the membrane beneath it. The correct orientation matters: the geotextile must face the soil/backfill so it filters incoming water, while the dimples sit against the membrane to form the drained air gap. Get that backwards and the cavity silts and the system underperforms.
Where it is used
- Protection and drainage of waterproofed basement and buried retaining walls
- Foundation, raft and pile-cap faces below grade
- Podium decks, plaza decks and roof gardens (drainage layer over the membrane)
- Green / terrace roofs as the drainage and filter course beneath growing medium
- Tunnel linings, box culverts and underpasses
- Bridge abutments and approach embankments
- Reservoirs, water-retaining and below-ground tank structures
- Lift pits, basement car parks and deep service trenches
Key advantages
- Two functions in one roll: mechanical protection of the membrane plus active de-watering of the structure
- Factory-bonded geotextile filter keeps the drainage core open and resists silting by soil fines
- High compressive and compressive-creep resistance (~200 kN/m2 class core) maintains the drainage gap under deep backfill and compaction
- Relieves hydrostatic pressure on the tanking, reducing the head the waterproofing must resist
- Passive system – no mixing, no cure, no temperature window; fast mechanical fixing speeds the programme
- Lightweight, flexible rolls that conform to wall contours, columns and curved tunnel profiles
- Rot-proof, chemically resistant HDPE and polypropylene suited to aggressive ground and Indian water-table conditions
- Integrates with the wider Fosroc Proofex waterproofing system for single-source accountability
Limitations & considerations
- It is NOT a waterproofing membrane – it must be installed over a dedicated tanking system, never as the barrier itself
- Performance depends on a correctly designed and connected perimeter land drain; without an outlet, the cavity cannot discharge
- Orientation is critical – the geotextile must face the soil and the dimples the membrane, or the core will silt up
- Vulnerable to puncture and displacement if backfill is dumped carelessly or compacted in over-thick, uncontrolled lifts
- In-plane flow capacity falls as confining pressure rises, so very deep or high-gradient applications need design verification against the project water load
- Not a structural or load-bearing element and not a substitute for proper structural drainage design
- UV and prolonged weather exposure should be limited – it is intended to be covered/backfilled reasonably promptly after fixing
- Verified country-specific TDS values should be confirmed against the local Fosroc datasheet before specification
Selection & best practice
Always treat DP200G as the protection-and-drainage layer over a fully cured, tested Fosroc waterproofing membrane – never as the waterproofing itself. Fix the sheet vertically with the geotextile facing the backfill and the HDPE dimples against the membrane, mechanically fastening only along the top edge with washered fixings so the membrane below is not perforated below the water line. Lap adjacent rolls at the studded selvedge to keep cavity continuity, and close the head with a Fosroc capping/flashing profile so soil and debris cannot drop into the cavity. The drainage gap is only as good as its outlet: connect the base of the geocomposite to a properly graded perimeter land drain that can discharge the collected water. Backfill in controlled, well-compacted lifts using non-aggressive granular material, and never tip backfill directly against unsupported sheet. Keep exposure to UV and weather short before covering. For high water tables or deep walls common in Indian basements, have the in-plane flow capacity checked against the project water load, and coordinate the full build-up with Fosroc technical services or your Space Arc Engineering applicator.

How we position Fosroc Proofex DP200G
Proofex DP200G sits in the protection-and-drainage tier of a below-grade waterproofing build-up, not the barrier tier – a distinction worth being honest about with specifiers. It works hand-in-glove with Fosroc’s own tanking products: pair it over Proofex Engage (HDPE pre-applied membrane), Proofex 3000 self-adhesive membrane or a Brushbond/Nitoproof liquid system, with Proofex capping and jointing accessories closing the detail. Within Fosroc’s geocomposite family it is the geotextile-faced cavity former; lighter dimple/drainage sheets such as Proofex Sheetdrain or Proofex Cavitydrain suit shallower or lower-load situations, while plain DP200 is the option where a separate filter fabric is preferred. Against the wider Indian market, comparable drained-cavity and dimpled drainage geocomposites are offered by Sika (e.g. SikaProof and Sikaplan drainage layers), STP Limited (cavity drainage and protection boards), and protection-board lines from MBS/MYK and Dr. Fixit (Pidilite). Those are credible alternatives where they are already part of an approved system; however, the strongest case for DP200G is system compatibility – specifying it over a Fosroc membrane keeps the waterproofing, protection and drainage layers under a single manufacturer’s warranty and single-source technical accountability, which is exactly what consultants and main contractors value on critical basement and infrastructure projects in India.
