Fosroc Proofex EFS
A two-component, fast-setting epoxy seam-seal and filleting compound that joints and details pre-applied waterproofing membranes, returning the works to service within one hour.
What is it?
A two-component, fast-setting, flexible and tough epoxy compound supplied in eco-friendly twin foil sachets, used to seam-seal and fillet the joints, laps and detailing of pre-applied waterproofing membranes.
Where is it used?
On-site jointing of membrane systems in basements, rafts, retaining walls and below-ground structures; especially as the seam seal and corner fillet for the Fosroc Proofex Engage pre-applied membrane.
Why use it?
It produces a watertight, durable, primer-free seal that sets fast enough to be returned to service within one hour, keeping membrane-laying and concreting sequences on programme.
How is it applied?
Gun-extruded from the twin sachet through a static mixing nozzle directly onto membrane overlaps and internal/external corners to form a continuous bead and fillet.
About Fosroc Proofex EFS
Fosroc Proofex EFS is a purpose-built jointing and detailing compound for the pre-applied waterproofing membrane systems that protect modern below-ground concrete structures. Rather than waterproofing a surface itself, EFS does the critical job of bonding membrane to membrane and dressing the awkward details, so the membrane envelope behaves as one continuous, watertight skin. It is a two-component epoxy supplied in a self-contained twin foil sachet: the resin and hardener sit side by side in the same eco-friendly pack and are blended only as the material passes through a disposable static mixing nozzle at the point of application. This packaging is part of Fosroc’s “Green Tick” eco range, and a single box of EFS is positioned to replace the heavier 28 kg drums of liquid-applied Proofex LM detailing compound, cutting waste sent to landfill. On an Indian site, where below-ground waterproofing is increasingly specified for deep basements, metro structures, water-retaining tanks and infrastructure foundations, EFS is the small-quantity, high-reliability product that turns a roll of membrane into a sealed system. It is most closely associated with Fosroc Proofex Engage, the mechanically bonding pre-applied membrane, where EFS forms the seam seal over laps and the fillets at floor-to-wall junctions. Because it requires no primer and cures rapidly, it removes two of the usual bottlenecks in membrane detailing, letting the trailing follow-on concrete pour proceed without long waiting periods. For contractors, consultants and procurement teams, EFS should be read as a consumable that is specified and ordered alongside the membrane itself, not as a standalone tanking product.
The technical insight
The chemistry that matters here is a two-part epoxy that cures flexible and tough rather than hard and brittle. That balance is deliberate: a membrane joint must stay watertight while the surrounding structure shrinks, settles and moves, so a glass-hard adhesive would micro-crack at exactly the seam it is meant to protect. EFS instead remains elastomeric enough to accommodate movement yet tough enough to resist hydrostatic pressure and site abuse before and after the concrete is poured. The twin-sachet, nozzle-mixed format guarantees the correct mix ratio every time, which is the usual failure point with hand-mixed two-component detailing products. Cure is fast: the completed seal can be returned to service within one hour at typical ambient temperatures, meaning trades can follow on the same shift. No primer is needed on the membrane face, which both saves a step and avoids the common defect of applying jointing compound over a poorly primed or contaminated surface. Practical yield from one 560 ml pack is in the order of 2 to 2.5 linear metres of butt/lap joint, or 2.5 to 3 linear metres of corner fillet, so material take-off is driven by the linear length of laps and junctions in the membrane layout rather than by floor area. As with all epoxies, the rate of cure and working time are temperature-dependent; in peak Indian summer conditions pot life through the nozzle shortens, while in cooler conditions cure extends.
Where it is used
- Seam-sealing the overlaps and laps of pre-applied waterproofing membranes below ground
- Forming internal and external corner fillets at floor-to-wall and wall-to-wall junctions
- Detailing and sealing around pipe penetrations, columns and service entries through the membrane
- Jointing and terminating Fosroc Proofex Engage membrane in basement and raft waterproofing
- Membrane detailing for water-retaining and water-excluding structures such as tanks and sumps
- Rapid repair and patch-sealing of membrane laps where return-to-service time is critical
Key advantages
- Two-component epoxy that cures flexible and tough, accommodating structural movement at the joint
- Fast setting – completed seal can be returned to service within approximately one hour
- No primer required on the membrane, removing a step and a common defect source
- Self-contained twin foil sachet with static mixer ensures the correct mix ratio every time
- Eco-friendly Green Tick packaging; one box replaces 28 kg drums of liquid-applied detailing compound, cutting landfill waste
- Gun-applied for a clean, controllable bead and fillet, with low wastage compared with tubbed compounds
- Watertight and durable seal purpose-matched to the Proofex Engage pre-applied system
Limitations & considerations
- A jointing and detailing compound, not a standalone waterproofing membrane – it must be used with a membrane system
- Modest coverage per pack (around 2-3 linear metres), so material cost per metre is higher than bulk liquid compounds on long runs
- Epoxy cure rate and working time through the nozzle are temperature-sensitive; hot Indian site conditions shorten usable time per sachet
- Once a mixing nozzle has started to gel it cannot be reused, so application must be reasonably continuous
- Designed and validated principally for use with Fosroc Proofex Engage / compatible membranes – verify suitability before using on third-party membranes
- Joint surfaces must be clean, dry and free of dust, laitance and contamination for a sound bond
- Confirm current pack size, coverage and full cure data against the latest local Fosroc TDS, as published figures vary by region and revision
Selection & best practice
Plan EFS take-off from the membrane layout drawing: measure the total linear length of laps, seams and corner fillets, then divide by the pack yield (roughly 2-2.5 lm per pack for butt/lap joints and 2.5-3 lm per pack for fillets) and add a wastage allowance. Store sachets in the shade and, in hot weather, keep stock cool so working time through the nozzle is not lost. Before application, ensure the membrane face at every lap and junction is clean, dry and free of dust or release film. Fit a fresh static mixing nozzle, discard the first short length of mixed material until the colour is uniform, then gun a continuous bead over laps and a smooth fillet into corners without gaps or pinholes. Work in lengths you can complete before the nozzle gels, and replace the nozzle if application is interrupted. Allow the seal to reach return-to-service before exposing it to traffic or pouring follow-on concrete. Always cross-check mix, cure and detailing requirements against the current Fosroc India technical data sheet for the specific membrane being jointed, and order EFS together with the membrane rather than as an afterthought.

How we position Fosroc Proofex EFS
Within the Fosroc waterproofing range, Proofex EFS is the dedicated jointing and detailing consumable for the Proofex pre-applied membrane family, most directly the mechanically bonding Proofex Engage membrane, and a fast, low-waste alternative to liquid-applied detailing compounds such as Proofex LM. It sits alongside complementary Fosroc products including the Proofex 3000 / 3000MR membranes, Proofex ORF and the wider Proofex below-ground range, and is typically specified together with whichever membrane is chosen rather than on its own. Space Arc Engineering supplies it as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India. Where a project is built around a different membrane system, the equivalent role is filled by that manufacturer’s own jointing and detailing compounds – for example membrane seam tapes and detailing mastics within the Sika pre-applied range, STP’s membrane and accessory system, MBS waterproofing, or Dr. Fixit’s below-ground membrane detailing products. The honest guidance for consultants and contractors is that EFS is not a like-for-like substitute for a full membrane and should not be cross-specified against one; it is a system accessory, and the right comparison is between complete membrane systems. Choose the membrane on performance, certification and ground conditions, then use the jointing compound the manufacturer validates for it – which, for a Proofex Engage specification, is Proofex EFS.
