Fosroc Nitomortar GPE
A solvent-free, general-purpose epoxy reinstatement mortar for fast, durable patch repair of concrete in industrial and commercial structures.
What is it?
Fosroc Nitomortar GPE is a solvent-free, general-purpose epoxy resin reinstatement mortar used for the rapid, permanent patch repair and reprofiling of damaged concrete. It belongs to the Fosroc Nitomortar epoxy repair family, sitting below the high-strength Nitomortar S and high-build Nitomortar HB as the everyday, cost-balanced epoxy option.
Where is it used?
Industrial and commercial floors, walls, columns and soffits; repair of spalls, blowholes, honeycombing and erosion pockets; bedding and fixing of fixtures; and structural patching where chemical and abrasion resistance is needed. Widely specified across India for plants, warehouses, RCC structures and infrastructure.
Why use it?
It cures to a high-strength, low-permeability, chemically resistant repair that bonds tenaciously to sound concrete, gains strength faster than cementitious mortars, and reinstates load-bearing capacity without formwork in most sections.
How is it applied?
Mechanically prepare and clean the substrate, prime exposed steel and the concrete with the matched Fosroc primer system, mix the pre-weighed base, hardener and graded aggregate to a homogeneous mortar, then trowel-apply, compact and steel-trowel finish within the pot life.
About Fosroc Nitomortar GPE
Fosroc Nitomortar GPE is a general-purpose epoxy reinstatement mortar engineered for the fast, permanent repair of damaged and deteriorated concrete. It is built on a solvent-free epoxy resin system blended with graded mineral aggregates, and is confirmed on Fosroc’s official product catalogue as the standard-duty member of the long-established Nitomortar epoxy repair range. Where the cementitious Renderoc range handles conventional patch repair and the premium Nitomortar S/HB grades target the most demanding high-strength, abrasion or overhead work, GPE occupies the practical middle ground: an epoxy-grade repair that delivers far better bond, strength gain and chemical resistance than an ordinary sand-cement patch, without the cost and specialised handling of a top-tier structural epoxy mortar.
For Indian contractors and consultants, the appeal of an epoxy reinstatement mortar like GPE is straightforward. Reinforced concrete in our climate fails predictably: carbonation and chloride ingress corrode the rebar, the cover concrete spalls, and the exposed steel accelerates further damage. A durable repair has to do three things well, restore the lost section, bond permanently to the parent concrete, and reinstate a low-permeability barrier so the corrosion cell does not simply restart at the patch edge. Solvent-free epoxy mortars do all three, and because they are supplied as pre-weighed packs they remove the site guesswork around water-cement ratios and mixing that plagues hand-batched repairs.
Nitomortar GPE is typically used for repairing spalls, blowholes, honeycombing, tie-bolt holes, erosion pockets and worn edges in floors, walls and columns; for reprofiling concrete around exposed reinforcement after rebar treatment; and as a bedding and fixing mortar for inserts and fixtures. Like the rest of the Nitomortar family, it is designed for horizontal use and can be applied vertically in thinner sections, with thicker build-ups achieved in successive layers. It forms part of a complete Fosroc repair system, used alongside Nitoprime substrate primers, a zinc-rich rebar primer such as Nitoprime Zincrich Plus, and Nitocote or Dekguard protective coatings for the surrounding structure.
As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator serving Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc Engineering supplies Nitomortar GPE alongside the complete repair system and provides specification and application support. Because exact published figures for the GPE grade vary by region and revision, always confirm pack size, coverage and performance values against the current Fosroc TDS for your market before specifying.
The technical insight
An epoxy reinstatement mortar is not a single resin, it is a three-part system, base resin, hardener and pre-graded silica/mineral aggregate, and its field performance depends as much on the application discipline as on the chemistry. Three points matter most. First, priming is non-negotiable: the bond that makes an epoxy repair “structural” is established by the matched primer (a Nitoprime grade for the concrete, a zinc-rich primer for cleaned rebar), and the mortar must go on while that primer is still tacky, not after it has cured hard. Second, compaction and a tight steel-trowel finish are what deliver the low permeability that protects the embedded steel, an under-compacted or over-worked surface loses that barrier. Third, pot life governs everything in Indian heat: epoxy pot life roughly halves for every rise in temperature, so a mortar that gives 40-plus minutes at 20 C may give only around 20 minutes at 35 C. On the wider Nitomortar S grade, Fosroc publishes pot lives of about 45 minutes at 20 C dropping to 20 minutes at 35 C, a useful indicator of how an epoxy mortar in the same family behaves on a hot Indian site, plan placement in small, mixed-as-you-go batches and never re-temper or use part packs. Epoxy mortars also cure by reaction, not hydration, so unlike cementitious repairs they do not need wet curing, but they must be protected from rain and standing water for the first 24 hours, and they should not be applied below about 5 C and falling. For sections demanding the very highest strength or abrasion resistance, the high-strength Nitomortar S grade is the reference point; for overhead and high-build vertical work, Nitomortar HB is the correct choice over a general-purpose grade.
Where it is used
- Patch repair of spalled, honeycombed and damaged concrete in floors, walls and columns
- Reprofiling concrete around exposed reinforcement after corrosion treatment
- Filling blowholes, tie-bolt holes, erosion pockets and worn edges
- Bedding and fixing of inserts, fixtures, base plates and small fixtures
- Repair of industrial and warehouse floors subject to traffic and chemical spillage
- Reinstatement work in plants, treatment facilities and structures needing chemical resistance
- Edge repairs to joints, steps and trafficked transitions
- General-purpose epoxy repairs where faster strength gain than cementitious mortar is required
Key advantages
- Solvent-free epoxy system with strong adhesion to sound, prepared concrete
- Faster strength development than cementitious repair mortars, reducing downtime
- High strength and abrasion resistance suited to industrial and trafficked areas
- Good resistance to a wide range of acids, alkalis and industrial chemicals
- Low permeability when properly compacted, helping protect embedded reinforcement
- Pre-weighed packs remove site batching errors and ensure consistent mixes
- Cures by reaction, so no wet curing regime is required after finishing
- Can be applied horizontally and, in thinner sections, vertically without formwork
- Part of a complete Fosroc repair system with matched primers and coatings
Limitations & considerations
- Substrate preparation and priming are mandatory, poor prep is the main cause of repair failure
- Pot life shortens sharply in high ambient temperatures common across India
- Part packs must never be used, the pre-weighed ratio must be mixed whole
- Not the first choice for the highest-strength or heavy-abrasion duty, use Nitomortar S
- Not intended for high-build overhead or thick vertical work, use Nitomortar HB
- Should not be applied to moving water or exposed to heavy rain before final set
- Should not be applied below about 5 C and falling temperature
- Typically costlier than cementitious mortars, best reserved for where epoxy is justified
- Exact GPE-grade figures vary by region and revision, confirm against the current TDS
Selection & best practice
Treat Nitomortar GPE as a system, not just a mortar. Saw-cut the repair perimeter to a square edge at least 5 mm deep to avoid feather-edging, break out to sound concrete, and grit-blast or scabble to remove laitance. Where reinforcement is exposed, clean steel to a bright condition and prime it with a zinc-rich primer (e.g. Nitoprime Zincrich Plus) within the recommended window, then prime the concrete substrate with the matched Nitoprime grade and apply the mortar while the primer is still tacky, not cured hard. Mix only whole pre-weighed packs to a homogeneous, trowellable consistency, and on hot sites store materials in shade and batch small quantities to stay within pot life. Compact firmly with a wood float and close with a steel trowel for a tight, low-permeability surface; build thicker sections in successive scratch-keyed layers. Protect from rain for the first 24 hours, and overcoat the surrounding structure with a Nitocote or Dekguard protective coating where chemical attack or carbonation is a risk. Always work to the current Fosroc TDS and Method Statement for the GPE grade in your region.

How we position Fosroc Nitomortar GPE
Nitomortar GPE is the general-purpose entry point into Fosroc’s epoxy concrete-repair system, and is best understood relative to its siblings: Nitomortar S (high-strength, abrasion-resistant epoxy reinstatement mortar for the most demanding structural and trafficked repairs), Nitomortar HB (high-build, lightweight grade for vertical and overhead work), Nitomortar FC (epoxy fairing coat for blemish levelling) and the polyester-based Nitomortar PE for ultra-fast jointing. Above GPE in thickness sits epoxy concrete (Expocrete) for sections beyond about 50 mm, and as a budget-conscious alternative the cementitious Renderoc range covers conventional non-epoxy patch repair. A complete GPE specification almost always includes Fosroc companion products, Nitoprime substrate primers, Nitoprime Zincrich Plus for rebar, and Nitocote or Dekguard protective coatings. Among competing brands available in India, credible alternatives in the epoxy/structural repair-mortar space include Sika (SikaTop, Sikadur and Sika MonoTop ranges), MBS / MC-Bauchemie (Emcekrete and Nafufill repair systems), STP Limited (Zentrifix and structural repair mortars) and, for general-purpose and DIY-grade cementitious repairs, Dr. Fixit. The honest positioning: choose Nitomortar GPE when you want a dependable, system-supported epoxy repair for everyday industrial and commercial work; step up to Nitomortar S or a competitor’s high-performance epoxy mortar when maximum strength, abrasion or chemical duty governs; and consider a cementitious system like Renderoc or a Dr. Fixit grade when the exposure is mild and cost is the priority. Final material selection should always be confirmed against the current Fosroc TDS and project specification.
