What is it?

A factory-blended, non-metallic dual-expansion cementitious precision grout that is mixed on site with clean water to produce a free-flowing, non-shrink grout for filling gaps under load-bearing plates and around anchors.

Where is it used?

Under machine base plates and sole plates, bridge bearings, crane rail beds, turbine and generator foundations, presses, pump and motor bases, and anchor-bolt pockets in industrial, infrastructure and power projects.

Why use it?

It compensates for shrinkage in both the plastic and hardened states, develops high early and ultimate strength, and flows fully into thin congested gaps without bleeding, giving full effective bearing contact under dynamically loaded equipment.

How is it applied?

Pre-soak and clean the foundation, mix the powder into a measured quantity of water with a forced-action mixer, then pour or pump continuously from one side of the void within the working time and cure the exposed faces.

About Fosroc Conbextra 621

Fosroc Conbextra 621 is a ready-to-use, cementitious precision grout supplied as a dry pre-blended powder that is combined on site with a controlled quantity of clean water. It belongs to Fosroc’s Conbextra range of non-shrink grouts and is positioned as a high-flow, high-ultimate-strength product for heavy-duty precision grouting. The material is a blend of Portland cement, carefully graded mineral fillers and chemical additives. The additives drive a non-metallic, dual expansion system that produces controlled expansion in the plastic state (to overcome plastic settlement and bleed) and a further compensating action in the hardened state (to offset drying shrinkage). Because the expansion is gaseous and hydrogen-free, and because the formulation is chloride-free, the cured grout avoids the corrosion and staining risks associated with older metallic-aggregate (iron-filing) grouts. For Indian projects, Conbextra 621 is the grade a specifier reaches for when the gap beneath a baseplate or bearing must be filled completely, the equipment carries significant static or moderate dynamic load, and high strength is needed quickly so the plant can be commissioned without long downtime. It is engineered to remain workable long enough to place large pours, yet gain strength rapidly afterwards. The product is designed to be either poured under a maintained grout head or pumped for larger or congested pours, which makes it suitable for site conditions ranging from small anchor pockets to long bedding runs under structural steelwork. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering supplies Conbextra 621 with the current batch-specific technical data sheet and application guidance for Delhi NCR and Pan-India projects.

The technical insight

The defining feature of Conbextra 621 is its dual shrinkage-compensation mechanism. Ordinary cementitious mixes lose volume as they set and dry, which leaves voids and reduces the effective bearing area beneath a plate; under vibration this leads to fretting, loss of preload in holding-down bolts and eventual movement. Conbextra 621 counters this in two distinct phases. While the grout is still plastic, a controlled gaseous (non-metallic, hydrogen-free) expansion lifts the mix slightly against the underside of the plate, compensating for plastic settlement and bleed so that contact is maintained as the grout stiffens. A second mechanism then provides expansion in the hardened state to offset long-term drying shrinkage, so the grout conforms to the non-shrink performance class defined in ASTM C1107 and the early-age height-change limits of ASTM C827. The low water demand of the blend is equally important: keeping the water/cement ratio low is what delivers both the high early strength that lets equipment be commissioned sooner and the dense, low-permeability matrix that resists ingress of water and aggressive ions over the structure’s life. The graded-filler skeleton is engineered to stay cohesive across flowable-to-fluid consistencies, resisting segregation and bleed even when the grout is made fluid enough to travel into thin, congested gaps. The practical consequence for a site engineer is that consistency must be controlled by accurate water measurement, not by eye — over-watering destroys the very expansion, strength and bleed-resistance the product is formulated to provide.

Where it is used

  • Bedding base plates and sole plates of large rotating and reciprocating machinery subject to static and moderate dynamic loads
  • Grouting bridge bearings and bearing plinths in highway, metro and rail infrastructure
  • Crane rail sole plates, gantry beams, columns and structural building members
  • Foundations for gas and steam turbines, power generators and large presses
  • Anchor-bolt and holding-down-bolt pockets, dowel bars and starter-bar fixings
  • Bedding pumps, motors, compressors and milling machinery where full contact and high strength are required
  • Filling gaps beneath structural steel stanchion base plates in industrial and warehouse construction

Key advantages

  • Non-metallic dual expansion compensates for shrinkage in both the plastic and hardened states, maintaining full bearing contact
  • Non-shrink performance in line with ASTM C1107, with controlled early-age expansion to ASTM C827
  • High early strength allows faster commissioning and reduced plant downtime
  • High ultimate strength and low permeability give durable, long-service grout under load
  • Excellent initial flow and flow retention fill thin, congested gaps without bleeding or segregation
  • Hydrogen-free gaseous expansion and a chloride-free formulation avoid corrosion and staining risks of metallic grouts
  • Can be poured under a grout head or pumped, suiting both small pockets and large continuous pours
  • Supplied as a factory pre-blend, so only clean water is added on site, improving consistency and quality control

Limitations & considerations

  • Cementitious, not epoxy — for severe chemical attack, high-temperature service or very high dynamic/impact loading an epoxy grout such as Fosroc Conbextra EP10/EPR is more appropriate
  • Single-lift pour thickness is limited; thicker gaps must be bulked out with approved grout aggregate or placed in stages per the current TDS
  • Performance depends on accurate water control — over-watering reduces strength, increases bleed and can compromise expansion
  • Requires proper substrate preparation (clean, sound, saturated-surface-dry) and pre-soaking; bond and flow suffer on dusty, oily or dry surfaces
  • Exposed grout faces must be cured promptly to prevent surface cracking and strength loss, especially in hot, windy Indian site conditions
  • Low- and high-temperature working need special measures (warm mixing water in cold weather, shaded storage and cool water in hot weather)
  • Has a finite shelf life and must be kept dry in sealed bags; lumpy or partly set material must not be used

Selection & best practice

Cut back any weak or laitance-affected concrete to a sound base, roughen the surface mechanically, and blow bolt holes and pockets clean of dust and debris. Pre-soak the grouting area with clean water for at least a couple of hours and remove all free water immediately before placing. Build leak-proof formwork, keeping the pour-side gap modest and leaving no gap on the flank sides. Measure the water accurately and mix the full bag into the water with a forced-action mixer until smooth — never mix by hand or by eye. Place within the working time, pouring or pumping continuously from one side only to push air and surplus water ahead of a single advancing grout front, and maintain a constant grout head. Cure exposed surfaces at once with a Fosroc Concure curing membrane or wet hessian. Always work to the current project-specific technical data sheet for the exact water addition, single-lift thickness limit and strength data for the batch supplied.

Industry use cases

Power & energy

Grouting turbine, generator and large-press foundations where high early strength shortens the commissioning window and dual expansion keeps full bearing contact under dynamic running loads.

Infrastructure & bridges

Bedding bridge bearings and bearing plinths on highway, metro and rail projects, where a non-shrink, low-permeability grout is needed for durable, fully-supported load transfer.

Heavy manufacturing

Setting base plates of presses, mills, pumps, compressors and motors on factory floors so that vibration does not loosen holding-down bolts or cause fretting under the plate.

Industrial & warehouse construction

Filling gaps beneath structural steel stanchion base plates and crane-rail sole plates to give complete, high-strength contact between the steel and the foundation.

Material handling & cranes

Grouting crane rail beds, gantry beams and columns subject to repeated moving loads, where flow into long thin gaps and resistance to shrinkage are both critical.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fosroc Conbextra 621 a cementitious or an epoxy grout?
It is a cementitious grout — a pre-blended powder of Portland cement, graded fillers and additives that you mix with clean water on site. It is not an epoxy system. For applications involving aggressive chemical exposure, elevated temperatures or very high dynamic and impact loads, an epoxy grout such as Fosroc Conbextra EP10 or EPR is the better choice.
What gap thickness can Conbextra 621 be placed in?
It is a precision grout intended for the typical precision-grouting range, broadly from about 10 mm up to roughly 100 mm in a single lift. For deeper gaps the grout is bulked out with an approved grout aggregate or placed in controlled stages. Always confirm the exact single-lift limit on the current technical data sheet for the batch you receive.
How much water do I add per bag and why does it matter?
Conbextra 621 is designed to work at a low, controlled water addition. The precise litres per bag for flowable and fluid consistencies are stated on the current TDS and should be measured accurately — never judged by eye. Adding too much water lowers strength, causes bleed and segregation, and can interfere with the expansion system, defeating the reason for using a precision grout.
Does it really not shrink?
Conbextra 621 uses a non-metallic dual expansion system that compensates for shrinkage in both the plastic and hardened states and conforms to the non-shrink grout performance class of ASTM C1107. The expansion is gaseous and hydrogen-free, and the product is chloride free, so it avoids the corrosion and staining problems of older iron-filing grouts.
How is it placed on site — poured or pumped?
Both. For smaller pours it is poured under a maintained grout head, always from one side of the void so that air and surplus pre-soaking water are pushed ahead of a single advancing front. For larger or congested pours it can be pumped. In all cases the grout must be placed continuously within its working time and the exposed surfaces cured immediately.

How we position Fosroc Conbextra 621

Conbextra 621 sits in the high-flow, high-strength tier of Fosroc’s cementitious precision-grout range. Within that range it is closely related to Conbextra GP/GP2 (the everyday general-purpose non-shrink grout for lighter machine and structural grouting), to Conbextra HF and HS (high-flow / high-strength precision grouts for demanding pours), and to Conbextra BB (specifically formulated for bridge bearings). Where the service is too aggressive for any cementitious grout — heavy chemical attack, high temperature, or severe dynamic and impact loading — the correct step up is to a Fosroc epoxy grout such as Conbextra EP10 or EPR, and for very deep pours Conbextra Deep Pour or bulking with grout aggregate is the route. On Indian projects Conbextra 621 competes with comparable non-shrink precision grouts from Sika (SikaGrout series), MBCC/Master Builders Solutions (MasterFlow), Dr. Fixit (Pidicrete/Pidigrout) and STP, as well as UltraTech and BASF-legacy grouts; specifiers typically choose between them on verified strength and flow data, expansion class, single-lift thickness and local technical support. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering positions Conbextra 621 for clients who want a proven, fully documented Fosroc precision grout backed by on-site application guidance, and we can cross-recommend the right Conbextra or epoxy grade if 621 is not the best fit for a specific load, gap or exposure condition.
