What is it?

A chloride-free, water-reducing (Type A) plasticising admixture based on a blend of selected lignosulphonate and hydrolysed carbohydrate materials, supplied as a ready-to-use brown liquid that disperses instantly in the mixing water.

Where is it used?

Ready-mix and site-batched structural concrete, RCC and PSC works, raft and pile foundations, slabs, columns and pumped concrete, especially mixes containing fly ash (PFA) or slag (GGBS).

Why use it?

It lets the same water work harder, so contractors can cut water content for higher strength and durability, or hold the water for extra workability, all from a single economical admixture compatible with prestressed and reinforced concrete.

How is it applied?

Dosed at roughly 0.3-0.7 litres per 100 kg of cementitious material, added to the mixing water or directly into the mixer with the gauging water, never onto dry cement. Trial mixes confirm the optimum dose for the target slump and w/c ratio.

About Fosroc Conplast P510

Fosroc Conplast P510 is a normal water-reducing concrete admixture engineered to make the water already in a mix work far more efficiently. It is formulated from a carefully selected blend of lignosulphonate and hydrolysed carbohydrate materials and is supplied as a brown, free-flowing solution that disperses the instant it meets the gauging water. Crucially for Indian structural work, it is chloride-free, which makes it suitable for reinforced, prestressed and post-tensioned concrete where corrosion risk to steel is a governing concern.

The admixture works by deflocculating and dispersing the fine cement and binder particles in fresh concrete. In an untreated mix these fines clump together and trap water; Conplast P510 breaks up those agglomerations so that a larger proportion of the mixing water becomes available to lubricate the mix rather than being locked away. The practical result is one of two outcomes, chosen by the mix designer. The contractor can keep the water content the same and gain a noticeably higher slump and easier placement, or hold the workability constant and remove water, dropping the water-cement ratio to lift compressive strength and cut permeability.

For Space Arc Engineering’s clients in Delhi NCR and across India, Conplast P510 sits in the value-engineering layer of the Conplast range, the dependable everyday plasticiser used where a high-range superplasticiser would be over-specified or uneconomic. It is particularly effective in modern blended-cement concrete, improving the strength development of mixes containing PFA and GGBS, and it allows a target grade to be reached at a reduced cement content, which trims both cost and the embodied carbon of the pour. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc supplies genuine, batch-traceable material with technical support for mix trials, dosage optimisation and site QA.

The technical insight

The defining technical feature of Conplast P510 is that it is a lignosulphonate-type Type A water reducer rather than a polycarboxylate-ether (PCE) superplasticiser. Lignosulphonates disperse cement by electrostatic repulsion, which gives a reliable, moderate water reduction (commonly in the 8-12% range for this admixture class) and a gradual rather than aggressive slump gain. That makes the product forgiving and predictable on site, but it also means it does not deliver the very high water reductions or extended slump-retention of a PCE such as Fosroc’s Auracast or Conplast SP range.

Engineers should account for one inherent behaviour of this chemistry: like most water-reducing admixtures, lignosulphonate-based products tend to retard the set slightly, and the degree of retardation rises with dosage and with ambient temperature, mix design and binder type. At normal dosages this is a manageable, often useful delay; significant overdosing can cause excessive retardation and a small amount of unintended air entrainment. Because Conplast P510 is chloride-free, it does not contribute to chloride-induced reinforcement corrosion, so it is safe with prestressing strand and in aggressive marine or coastal exposure. It is supplied at a typical class specific gravity in the region of 1.10-1.20 (the exact figure is stated on the current regional Technical Data Sheet for the supplied batch), and the optimum dose is always best fixed by laboratory trial mixes using the actual project cement, binders and aggregates rather than assumed from the catalogue range.

Where it is used

  • Structural ready-mixed and site-batched concrete for RCC frames, slabs, beams and columns
  • Foundations, rafts, pile caps and bored cast-in-situ piles requiring controlled workability
  • Prestressed and post-tensioned concrete, where the chloride-free formulation protects the strand
  • Blended-cement concrete containing fly ash (PFA) or ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS)
  • Pumped and tremie concrete needing improved cohesion and flow at a controlled water-cement ratio
  • Water-retaining and below-ground structures where reduced permeability improves durability
  • High-volume general structural pours where an economical Type A plasticiser is preferred over a superplasticiser

Key advantages

  • Chloride-free, so it is safe for reinforced, prestressed and post-tensioned concrete and aggressive exposure
  • Reduces water demand, allowing a lower water-cement ratio for higher compressive strength at all ages
  • Improves workability and placeability for the same water content, easing pumping and compaction
  • Enhances durability by lowering permeability and the risk of water penetration
  • Particularly improves strength development in mixes containing PFA and GGBS
  • Allows a specified grade to be met at reduced cement content, cutting cost and embodied carbon
  • Disperses instantly in the mixing water with no need for pre-mixing or special equipment
  • Compatible with other Fosroc Conplast admixtures when each is dosed separately into the mix

Limitations & considerations

  • A normal (Type A) water reducer, not a high-range superplasticiser, so water reduction is moderate rather than very high
  • Causes some retardation of set that increases with dosage, temperature and binder type, requiring care in cold-weather or fast-strip schedules
  • Overdosing can lead to excessive retardation and minor unintended air entrainment
  • Slump retention is shorter than with polycarboxylate-ether admixtures, so it is less suited to very long haul or hot-weather long-workability mixes
  • Performance varies with cement source and supplementary materials, so site trial mixes are essential before adoption
  • Not an integral waterproofing or set-accelerating admixture; use the correct Conplast or Auralite product for those functions

Selection & best practice

Always establish the optimum dose with trial mixes using the project’s own cement, PFA/GGBS, aggregates and target slump rather than relying on the catalogue range. Add Conplast P510 to the gauging water or directly into the mixer with the water, never onto dry cement or aggregate, and where more than one admixture is used, dose each separately and never blend them in the same container before adding. Keep the dosage within the recommended band; resist the temptation to over-dose for extra slump, as this mainly increases retardation and air. Account for the slight set delay in formwork-striking and curing schedules, particularly in cooler weather, and protect and cure the concrete properly after placement. Store the drums in cool, shaded conditions, keep them sealed, protect from frost, and use within the stated shelf life. For batch-specific dosage limits, specific gravity, packaging and storage, follow the current regional Technical Data Sheet, which Space Arc Engineering can supply along with on-site dosing guidance.

Industry use cases

Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC)

Used as the standard plant plasticiser to hold consistent slump and w/c ratio across high-volume structural deliveries while economising on cement, especially in PFA and GGBS blended mixes.

High-Rise and Commercial Buildings

Improves workability and pumpability of RCC for columns, shear walls and slabs in Delhi NCR projects, allowing reliable placement and compaction without raising water content.

Infrastructure and Foundations

Applied in raft foundations, pile caps and bored piles where controlled flow, cohesion and reduced permeability improve placement quality and long-term durability.

Prestressed and Precast Concrete

Its chloride-free formulation makes it suitable for PSC girders, beams and precast elements where corrosion protection of strand and reinforcement is critical.

Water-Retaining and Below-Ground Structures

Lowering the water-cement ratio reduces permeability in tanks, basements and retaining structures, helping resist water penetration and improve service life.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fosroc Conplast P510 a superplasticiser?
No. It is a normal, Type A water-reducing plasticiser based on lignosulphonate chemistry, giving moderate water reduction and a gradual slump gain. For high water reduction or extended workability you would step up to a polycarboxylate-ether superplasticiser such as the Conplast SP range or Fosroc Auracast.
What is the recommended dosage of Conplast P510?
The typical range is 0.3 to 0.7 litres per 100 kg of cementitious material, including any fly ash, slag or microsilica. The exact optimum should always be fixed by trial mixes with your actual cement, binders and aggregates. Space Arc Engineering can support these trials.
Is Conplast P510 safe for reinforced and prestressed concrete?
Yes. It is chloride-free, so it does not contribute to chloride-induced corrosion of reinforcement or prestressing strand, making it suitable for RCC, PSC and post-tensioned work as well as coastal and marine exposure.
Does Conplast P510 delay the setting of concrete?
It causes a slight retardation of set, which is normal for water-reducing admixtures of this type. The delay increases with higher dosage, higher temperature and certain mix conditions, so allow for it in formwork-striking and curing schedules, particularly in cooler weather.
How does Conplast P510 differ from Conplast P505 and P510M?
All three are chloride-free Conplast water-reducing plasticisers from the same family. P505 and the P510/P510M variants differ in the precise blend and performance emphasis, with the M variant tuned for strength development in PFA and GGBS mixes. Space Arc can advise which grade best suits your specification.
How should Conplast P510 be added to the mix?
Add it to the gauging water or directly into the mixer with the mixing water, never onto dry cement or aggregate. If you use more than one admixture, dose each one separately and do not pre-mix them together in the same container before adding to the concrete.

How we position Fosroc Conplast P510

Within the Fosroc range, Conplast P510 is the workhorse Type A water reducer, the economical and reliable choice for everyday structural concrete that does not need a high-range superplasticiser. It sits alongside close relatives such as Conplast P505 and the PFA/GGBS-optimised Conplast P510M, and below the polycarboxylate-ether superplasticisers (Conplast SP range, Fosroc Auracast) used for high water reduction and long slump retention. It complements rather than replaces Fosroc’s integral waterproofers (Conplast WP and Conplast X-tra), corrosion inhibitors (Conplast CN) and accelerators, each of which addresses a function P510 is not designed for. Across the wider Indian market, credible alternatives in this water-reducer class include Sika’s Plastiment and Sikament lines, MBS (Master Builders Solutions) products such as the Pozzolith/MasterPozzolith range, Dr. Fixit admixtures from Pidilite, and STP Limited’s offerings. Where a project genuinely needs only moderate water reduction with dependable, forgiving behaviour and chloride-free safety for reinforcement and prestress, Conplast P510 is a sound, cost-effective specification. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator serving Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc Engineering supplies genuine, batch-traceable material with the current regional Technical Data Sheet, mix-trial support and on-site dosing guidance.
