Fosroc Conplast PA500P
A high-performance superplasticiser engineered for self-compacting, pumped, precast and high-strength concrete where early and ultimate compressive strength matter.
What is it?
Fosroc Conplast PA500P is a high-performance superplasticiser (high-range water-reducing admixture) from the Conplast concrete-admixture range, formulated to produce highly workable, low water/cement-ratio concrete that gains strength quickly and finishes durable.
Where is it used?
Self-compacting concrete (SCC), pumped concrete, precast and prestressed elements, high-performance and high-strength mixes, and any pour needing extended workability retention without bleeding or segregation.
Why use it?
It lets you cut mixing water sharply at a fixed slump (or boost flow at a fixed water content), so you reach higher early and ultimate compressive and flexural strengths, lower permeability and better durability without adding cement.
How is it applied?
Dosed as a liquid into the mix water or wet concrete at the batching plant within the manufacturer’s recommended rate per 100 kg of cementitious content, then mixed thoroughly; never added to dry aggregate or cement. Always trial-mix with the actual job materials first.
About Fosroc Conplast PA500P
Fosroc Conplast PA500P is a high-performance superplasticiser within Fosroc’s well-established Conplast admixture range, the same family that includes the PA21/PA21(S) plasticisers and the SP-series superplasticisers used across Indian infrastructure for decades. It is a high-range water-reducing admixture: a small dose dramatically improves the flow of fresh concrete, which in turn lets a producer take water back out of the mix to hit a much lower water/cement ratio at the same workability. That single lever — a lower w/c ratio at the placeable slump or flow you actually need — is what delivers the property gains Fosroc cites for the product: higher early and ultimate compressive strength, increased flexural strength, a higher modulus of elasticity, better adhesion to reinforcing and stressing steel, lower permeability, improved resistance to carbonation, and reduced shrinkage and creep. In other words, PA500P is positioned not merely as a workability aid but as a strength-and-durability admixture for demanding structural concrete. Fosroc lists its primary applications as self-compacting concrete, pumped concrete, high-performance concrete, precast concrete, and mixes that must retain workability over a long haul or placing window. For contractors, ready-mix producers, precasters and consultants working in Delhi NCR and across India, PA500P is the kind of product specified when an ordinary mid-range plasticiser cannot reach the slump-flow, pumpability or early de-moulding strength a job demands. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering supplies PA500P alongside the rest of the Conplast and Fosroc admixture range, and can help you match the right superplasticiser to your grade, cementitious blend and placing method. Because exact dosage, specific gravity and chloride limits are published on the region-specific Technical Data Sheet, we always recommend confirming the current TDS for your market and running a site trial before bulk supply.
The technical insight
A superplasticiser works by dispersing cement grains that would otherwise flocculate (clump) the moment they meet water, trapping water inside the clumps where it does nothing for flow. By coating the grains and pushing them apart — through electrostatic repulsion in naphthalene-type chemistries and additional steric (physical) separation in newer polymer chemistries — the admixture frees that trapped water, so the same paste flows far more easily. The producer then has a choice: keep the water and gain dramatic flow (the route to SCC and easy pumping), or remove water to hold the original slump and drop the water/cement ratio (the route to high strength and low permeability). PA500P is built for the high end of that trade-off, which is why Fosroc associates it with early de-moulding strength for precast, long workability retention for distant pumps, and the dense, durable matrix that resists carbonation and chloride ingress. Two practical points follow. First, superplasticiser performance is acutely sensitive to dosage, cement chemistry, fly ash/GGBS content and temperature, so the right rate is found by trial, not assumed. Second, the headline durability gains are realised only when the freed water is actually taken out of the mix — if you simply add admixture and pour a wetter, higher-slump concrete at the same water content, you get flow but not the strength and permeability benefits. Exact chemical base, specific gravity and chloride content for PA500P should be read from the current Fosroc TDS for your region; like other chloride-free Conplast superplasticisers it is intended to be safe for reinforced and prestressed concrete, but confirm this on the datasheet for the batch you receive.
Where it is used
- Self-compacting concrete (SCC) for congested reinforcement, architectural and inaccessible pours
- Pumped concrete delivered over long horizontal or vertical distances where pumpability and retention matter
- Precast and prestressed elements needing high early strength for fast de-moulding and bed turnover
- High-performance and high-strength structural concrete (high grades, columns, transfer slabs, cores)
- Ready-mix concrete requiring long workability retention between batching plant and site
- Water-reduced durable concrete for aggressive or marine-influenced environments where low permeability is specified
Key advantages
- Strong water reduction at a given workability, enabling a lower water/cement ratio without adding cement
- Higher early compressive strength — valuable for precast de-moulding and fast construction cycles
- Higher ultimate compressive and flexural strength and a higher modulus of elasticity
- Improved durability: lower permeability, better resistance to carbonation and chloride-related deterioration
- Excellent flow and cohesion for self-compacting and pumped concrete, reducing labour and compaction effort
- Reduced shrinkage and creep and improved bond to reinforcing and prestressing steel
- Backed by Fosroc technical support and supplied with applicator guidance through Space Arc Engineering
Limitations & considerations
- Performance is highly dosage-dependent — overdosing can cause retardation, segregation or bleeding, so site trials are essential
- Numeric dosage, specific gravity and chloride limits are on the region-specific Fosroc TDS; values must be confirmed for your market and batch before use
- It reduces water demand but is not a waterproofing admixture, a curing compound or a substitute for proper mix design, compaction and curing
- Compatibility with the specific cement, fly ash/GGBS and any other admixtures should be verified — mixing superplasticiser families without checking can cause unexpected behaviour
- High-flow and SCC mixes demand tighter control of aggregate grading and moisture; a poorly proportioned mix can segregate even with a good admixture
- Like all chemical admixtures it should be protected from frost and excessive heat in storage and used within its stated shelf life
Selection & best practice
Always start from the current region-specific Fosroc Technical Data Sheet and run laboratory and field trial mixes with the actual cement, supplementary cementitious materials, aggregates and water you will use on site, at the temperatures you expect. Establish the dosage by trial, then add PA500P to the mixing water or to the wet concrete in the mixer — never onto dry cement or aggregate — and mix thoroughly to disperse it. Decide deliberately whether you are using the admixture to gain flow or to cut water for strength, and hold the water/cement ratio to design if durability and strength are the goal. Avoid overdosing, monitor slump/slump-flow retention against your haul and placing time, and keep mixing-water content under control because high-flow mixes are unforgiving of variation in aggregate moisture. Store containers sealed, off the ground and protected from frost and direct sun, and use within shelf life. For first-time use on a project, involve Space Arc Engineering or Fosroc technical support to validate the mix design, dosage and placing method before bulk supply.

How we position Fosroc Conplast PA500P
Conplast PA500P sits at the high-performance end of Fosroc’s superplasticiser line-up. Within the Conplast range it is a clear step up from the PA21/PA21(S) plasticisers (moderate water reduction and air entrainment) and is closely related to the SP-series high-range water reducers such as Conplast SP430 and SP500; PA600P is its higher-numbered sibling in the same group. Specifiers often pair a superplasticiser like PA500P with complementary Fosroc products — for example a curing membrane such as Concure, or waterproofing/integral products like Conplast WP500 for water-resisting concrete — to address durability as a system rather than a single admixture. In the broader Indian market, PA500P competes directly with high-range superplasticisers from Sika (Sikament and the polycarboxylate-based ViscoCrete range), MBS / Master Builders Solutions (the Glenium / MasterGlenium PCE family, formerly BASF), and water-reducing admixtures from Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) and STP Limited. These products all occupy the same superplasticiser category, and the right selection for a given pour depends on cement and SCM compatibility, the target slump-flow and strength, retention requirements, available technical support, and — most importantly — trial-mix results with your own materials, not brand reputation alone. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering’s role is to help you specify and validate the correct admixture for the job; where Fosroc is the standard, PA500P is a strong choice for SCC, pumped, precast and high-strength structural concrete.
