Product Overview

Conplast SP337 is a lignosulphonate-based, mid-range water reducing plasticiser for structural concrete. It conforming to ASTM C494 Type A (water reducing) and Type D (water reducing and retarding at higher dosage), and IS 9103. Conplast SP337 provides a typical water reduction of 8 to 12% at standard dosage, which is less than a superplasticiser but sufficient for improving the workability of standard structural concrete mixes, reducing bleeding, and improving pumpability without requiring the additional cost of a high-range water reducer. It is widely used in India for standard structural concrete in multi-storey buildings, foundations, and infrastructure projects where the design strength requirements do not justify the cost of full superplasticiser dosage. Conplast SP337 is also used as a base plasticiser in combination with other admixtures — for example, with Conplast NC accelerator or with retarders for hot weather placing. What is the key difference between Conplast SP337 and Conplast SP430?

Conplast SP337 is a lignosulphonate-based mid-range plasticiser providing modest water reduction of 8 to 12%. Conplast SP430 is a naphthalene sulphonate-based high-range superplasticiser providing water reduction of 20 to 25%. SP337 is used for standard structural concrete where modest workability improvement and economy are priorities. SP430 is used where higher workability retention, stronger water reduction, or higher strength (M40 and above) is required. For high performance concrete or ready mix with demanding performance requirements, SP430 or the newer Auramix PCE grades are preferred.

Can Conplast SP337 be overdosed to achieve high workability?

At higher dosages, Conplast SP337 transitions from ASTM Type A (water reducing) to Type D behaviour (water reducing and retarding), which means increasing the dosage may cause significant set retardation before high workability is achieved. Conplast SP430 or Auramix PCE admixtures are the appropriate products for achieving very high workability — they provide the required workability range without the retardation risk associated with over-dosing a lignosulphonate plasticiser.

Does Conplast SP337 introduce chlorides into concrete?

Conplast SP337 is formulated to be chloride-free and is therefore safe for use in reinforced and prestressed concrete. Always confirm the chloride content from the current product TDS for each batch if the specification has very tight chloride limits (for example, for nuclear structures or marine structures with stringent exposure requirements).
