Fosroc Cebex 125
Iron-free gas-expansion and plasticising powder admixture for site-batched cementitious grouts and stress mortars — controlled plastic expansion with a reduced water/cement ratio.
What is it?
A dry powder admixture from Fosroc that combines a gas-producing expansion agent with a plasticising (water-reducing) agent. It is added to cement-based grouts and stress mortars to compensate for plastic settlement and shrinkage while allowing a lower water/cement ratio.
Where is it used?
Site-batched cementitious grouts used for base-plate and bed grouting, duct and cable grouting, non-shrink infilling, anchor and bolt-pocket filling, and general jointing — on industrial, infrastructure and structural concrete works across Delhi NCR and pan-India.
Why use it?
It controls the natural settlement and plastic shrinkage of cement grout, helps maintain effective contact under base plates, and improves flow at a lower water content for denser, more durable, less permeable grout. Being iron-free, it avoids rust staining and corrosion-related deterioration.
How is it applied?
The powder is blended with the cement/water mix at the recommended dosage per 100 kg of cementitious material, mixed mechanically to a uniform flowable consistency, then poured or pumped continuously into the prepared gap during the plastic-expansion window.
About Fosroc Cebex 125
Fosroc Cebex 125 belongs to the long-established Cebex range of grout and mortar admixtures from Fosroc. It is supplied as a dry powder that performs two jobs in one product: a controlled gas-producing expansion medium and a plasticising, water-reducing agent. When dosed into a cement-based grout or “stress” mortar, the expansion component generates a small, controlled volume increase during the plastic phase, counteracting the natural bleed, settlement and plastic shrinkage that otherwise leave voids beneath base plates or inside ducts. The plasticising component lets the mix achieve a workable, pourable consistency at a reduced water/cement ratio, which is the single biggest lever on grout strength, permeability and long-term durability. Critically, Cebex 125 contains no metallic iron, so there is nothing in the additive that can later corrode and cause rust staining, expansion cracking or surface peeling — an important distinction from older aluminium/iron-filing “non-shrink” methods. For Indian contractors, consultants and procurement teams, the practical positioning is straightforward: Cebex 125 sits in the same functional family as the widely specified Fosroc Cebex 100 and the hydrogen-free Cebex EN, and is used wherever a site-batched cementitious grout needs positive plastic expansion plus improved flow without resorting to a pre-bagged proprietary grout. Space Arc Engineering supplies it as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator and can advise on the correct member of the Cebex family for a given specification.
The technical insight
The mechanism is worth understanding because it drives the site procedure. The “expansion” Cebex 125 provides is a plastic-state gas expansion, not a hardened-state crystalline or sulpho-aluminate expansion. A controlled gas is generated within the fresh grout for a short window after mixing, slightly increasing volume while the matrix is still plastic so it presses up against the underside of the plate or the duct wall and fills the space that bleed water and settlement would otherwise leave. This means timing matters: the grout must be placed continuously and the gap filled before the expansion window closes — you cannot place it, walk away, and top up later. Because expansion happens before set, Cebex 125 does not by itself guarantee dimensional stability after hardening the way a fully formulated pre-bagged non-shrink grout (e.g. Conbextra) does; its job is to offset plastic settlement and improve contact, while the lowered water/cement ratio it enables does the heavy lifting on hardened strength and durability. The iron-free chemistry is a deliberate durability choice. Standard cautions for this admixture class apply: it is not compatible with High Alumina Cement, dosage must be confirmed by trial mixes with the actual site cement and aggregates because expansion is sensitive to cement chemistry, temperature and mix water, and the achieved expansion and flow should be validated on site rather than assumed. Always confirm the current India-region Fosroc Technical Data Sheet for the exact dosage band, expansion percentage and pack size before specifying.
Where it is used
- Base-plate and machine-foundation bed grouting where positive contact under the plate is required
- Duct grouting and cable/anchor grouting in post-tensioned and structural concrete
- Non-shrink infilling of pockets, recesses and starter-bar holdings
- Anchor-bolt and holding-down-bolt pocket filling
- Filling of gaps, joints and cavities in precast and in-situ concrete
- General site-batched cementitious grout where reduced water content and plastic expansion are both needed
Key advantages
- Gas-expansion system compensates for plastic shrinkage and settlement, improving fill and contact under plates and inside ducts
- Plasticising (water-reducing) effect allows a lower water/cement ratio, giving denser, stronger, less permeable and more durable grout
- Improved flow makes pouring and injection easier, helping continuous placement into tight gaps
- Iron-free formulation avoids rust staining, corrosion expansion and surface peeling
- Supplied as a measured powder for straightforward site batching with ordinary Portland cement and sand/aggregate
- Part of the established Fosroc Cebex family, so behaviour is familiar to specifiers and matches a widely accepted method statement
Limitations & considerations
- Provides plastic-phase expansion only; it is not a substitute for a fully formulated pre-bagged non-shrink grout where hardened dimensional stability is mandated
- Not compatible with High Alumina Cement
- Performance depends on a correctly designed mix — final strength comes from controlling the water/cement ratio, not from the admixture alone
- Dosage and achieved expansion must be confirmed by trial mixes with the actual site cement, sand and temperature; expansion is sensitive to these variables
- Requires continuous placement within the plastic-expansion window — it cannot be topped up after the grout starts to set
- India-region TDS figures (exact dosage band, expansion %, pack size) should be confirmed against the current Fosroc datasheet for the supply region before specification
Selection & best practice
Always run a trial mix using the same cement, sand/aggregate, water source and likely site temperature before bulk use, and confirm the dosage, flow and plastic expansion against the current India-region Fosroc TDS. Prepare and clean the gap, saturate the surface to a saturated-surface-dry condition (no free water), and mix mechanically to a uniform, lump-free consistency. Place the grout from one side only, continuously, so air is pushed ahead of the grout and the gap is completely filled within the expansion window — do not place in interrupted lifts and do not retemper with extra water. Keep the water/cement ratio as low as workability allows; that, not the additive, governs hardened strength. Cure exposed grout surfaces against moisture loss. Do not use with High Alumina Cement, and where the specification demands certified hardened non-shrink performance, step up to a pre-bagged Fosroc non-shrink grout or the appropriate Cebex variant and confirm selection with Space Arc’s technical team.

How we position Fosroc Cebex 125
Fosroc Cebex 125 is best understood as a member of the Cebex admixture family rather than a standalone hero product. It sits alongside Fosroc Cebex 100 (the most commonly specified general grout admixture in India) and Cebex EN (the hydrogen-free version meeting EN 447 for prestressing-tendon grouts), and is typically chosen for cement-based dry products and stress mortars/grouts where plastic expansion plus a water-reducing effect are wanted from a site-batched mix. Where a specification instead demands a certified, ready-to-use hardened non-shrink grout, the natural step up within the Fosroc portfolio is the pre-bagged Conbextra range — and Cebex-type admixtures are often used together with site-batched grouting rather than as a replacement. In the Indian market, credible alternatives a consultant might compare against include Sika’s grout-admixture and pre-bagged grout lines (e.g. SikaGrout / Intraplast families), MBS (formerly MBT/BASF-lineage) admixtures, STP (Shalimar Tar Products) grout and admixture products, and, in the broader waterproofing/repair space, Dr. Fixit from Pidilite. The honest distinction is that Cebex 125 is an admixture for site-batched grout, so its real-world performance depends heavily on mix design and water/cement ratio control, whereas pre-bagged proprietary grouts trade higher cost for factory-controlled, certified non-shrink performance. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, can help match the right Cebex variant — or a pre-bagged alternative — to the actual specification and site conditions.
