Conplast NC — Non-Chloride Concrete Accelerating Admixture for Cold Weather and Rapid Strength Gain

Conplast NC

Non-Chloride Concrete Accelerating Admixture for Cold Weather and Rapid Strength Gain

Authorized Project Distributor — Fosroc India | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad

Product Overview

Conplast NC is a non-chloride, non-corrosive concrete accelerating admixture conforming to ASTM C494 Type C and E that accelerates the hydration of Portland cement to provide rapid early strength gain and reduced setting time. Unlike traditional chloride-based accelerators (which cause steel reinforcement corrosion), Conplast NC is safe for use in reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete without risk of chloride-induced corrosion damage. The product is used in cold weather concreting — where low temperatures significantly slow cement hydration and delay strength gain — to compensate for the retarding effect of cold weather and maintain adequate early strength for formwork striking and protection against frost. Conplast NC is also used at ambient temperature to accelerate formwork cycle times in fast-track construction, precast production, and urgent repair concrete where early reinstatement of service is critical. It is compatible with all standard Fosroc and other superplasticisers and can be combined with water reducers for high-early strength, high-workability concrete. Space Arc Engineering distributes Conplast NC for winter and rapid-construction projects across Delhi NCR, Ghaziabad, and Northern India.

Applications

  • Cold weather concreting in winter months in North India
  • Precast concrete requiring rapid early strength for early demoulding
  • Fast-track construction requiring accelerated formwork cycling
  • Repair concrete requiring early reinstatement of service loads
  • Grouting operations in cool weather requiring faster initial set
  • Concrete placements in cold store construction or refrigerated environments

Key Advantages

  • Non-chloride — safe for reinforced and prestressed concrete
  • ASTM C494 Type C and E compliant
  • Significantly reduces setting time and accelerates early strength
  • Allows earlier formwork stripping and reduced cycle times
  • Compatible with superplasticisers and water-reducing admixtures
  • Reduces cold weather concreting risk in North Indian winters

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a non-chloride accelerator specified instead of calcium chloride?

Calcium chloride (CaCl2) is a very effective and economical concrete accelerator but introduces chloride ions into the concrete that actively corrode steel reinforcement. This causes reinforcement rust, concrete cracking, and premature structural deterioration — a major problem in all reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. Conplast NC achieves acceleration without chloride, making it the safe choice for all concrete containing steel reinforcement. Calcium chloride should never be used in reinforced or prestressed concrete.

At what temperature does Conplast NC remain effective?

Conplast NC is effective down to approximately 5 degrees C concrete temperature. Below 5 degrees C, even with an accelerator, cement hydration is very slow and the risk of frost damage to the fresh concrete before adequate strength is reached becomes significant. Below 0 degrees C concrete placing should not proceed without comprehensive insulation and heating measures, even with an accelerator. The accelerator helps but cannot substitute for proper cold weather concrete protection.

Can Conplast NC be used in combination with Conplast SP430 superplasticiser?

Yes. Conplast NC is compatible with Conplast SP430 and Auramix PCE superplasticisers. When combining admixtures, add each separately to the concrete batch — never pre-mix accelerator and superplasticiser together in concentrated form as this can cause adverse reactions. Add the superplasticiser first with part of the gauging water, then add Conplast NC separately.
