Fosroc Cure B
Water-based, high-efficiency spray-applied curing membrane that locks in mix water, boosts cement hydration and degrades naturally – no manual removal needed.
What is it?
A water-based, spray-applied liquid membrane-forming curing compound that seals freshly placed concrete to retain its mix water during the critical early hydration period.
Where is it used?
Large flatwork and slabs – highway pavements, airport runways and taxiways, bridge decks, RMC and precast yards, and general structural concrete across Delhi NCR and Pan-India sites.
Why use it?
It delivers ~90% curing efficiency (BS 7542) without ponding or hessian, cutting water use and labour while reducing plastic shrinkage cracking, surface dusting and permeability.
How is it applied?
Spray a uniform fugitive-white film over the green concrete as soon as surface bleed water disappears; the membrane forms a moisture barrier and breaks down naturally over time.
About Fosroc Cure B
Fosroc Cure B is a ready-to-use, water-based curing membrane designed to solve one of the most common – and most costly – failures on Indian concrete sites: poor or interrupted curing. When freshly placed concrete is left exposed to the sun, wind and low humidity typical of North Indian summers, the mix water evaporates faster than the bleed water can rise. The surface dries out before cement hydration is complete, leaving behind plastic shrinkage cracks, a soft dusty wearing surface, and a permeable skin that later admits chlorides and carbonation. Cure B addresses this by forming a continuous film over the green concrete that seals in the gauging water, allowing the cement to hydrate fully and develop its design strength and durability.
The product is applied by simple spray equipment immediately after finishing, the moment surface sheen disappears. On application it appears as a fugitive white film that aids uniform coverage and lets the applicator see exactly where the membrane has and has not been laid – critical for quality control on large pours. Because it is water-based, it is non-flammable, low-odour and easy to clean from equipment with water, making it well suited to occupied sites, tunnels and enclosed areas where solvent systems are unwelcome.
A defining advantage of Cure B over sheet methods (wet hessian, ponding, polythene) is labour and water economy. A single applicator with a spray lance can cure thousands of square metres a day, and there is no recurring need to keep hessian wet for seven days in 45 deg C heat – a task routinely neglected on busy sites. The film also degrades naturally under sunlight and weathering, so unlike some resin systems there is usually no need to mechanically remove it before applying finishes – though this should always be confirmed against the bonded finish being used.
For Space Arc Engineering’s customers – contractors, RMC producers, precast manufacturers and infrastructure builders across Delhi NCR and Pan-India – Cure B is positioned as the workhorse curing compound for large horizontal areas where water curing is impractical, wasteful or simply not happening reliably on site.
The technical insight
The performance of a liquid curing membrane is measured by its curing efficiency – the percentage of evaporative moisture loss it prevents relative to an uncured control, assessed under BS 7542. Cure B is rated at approximately 90% efficiency, placing it firmly in the high-efficiency class suitable for structural and pavement-grade concrete. The mechanism is purely physical: the sprayed emulsion coalesces into a thin, semi-continuous film that raises the diffusion resistance of the concrete surface, slowing water vapour escape so that internal relative humidity stays high enough (above ~80%) for hydration to continue. Timing is the single biggest technical variable. Applied too early – while bleed water is still present – the film floats and re-emulsifies, breaking continuity; applied too late, after the surface has already dried, the damage is done and the membrane only locks in an already-desiccated skin. The correct window is immediately after the surface water sheen disappears but before the concrete stiffens. Uniform, slightly overlapping spray passes at the recommended rate are essential, because curing efficiency is governed by the thinnest, not the average, part of the film. The fugitive white tint is a deliberate QA aid here – patchy or thin coverage shows up visually during application.
Where it is used
- Curing of highway, road and pavement concrete over large continuous areas
- Airport runways, taxiways and aprons where ponding or hessian is impractical
- Bridge decks, abutments and large infrastructure slabs
- Ready-mixed concrete (RMC) supplied slabs and rafts
- Precast concrete elements in factory and yard production
- Industrial ground-floor slabs and warehouse flooring substrates
- Canal linings, water-retaining structures and large civil works
- General structural concrete on sites where reliable water curing is not feasible
Key advantages
- High curing efficiency of approximately 90% tested to BS 7542, supporting full strength and durability development
- Water-based, non-flammable and low-odour – safe for enclosed and occupied site conditions
- Spray-applied for very high output, cutting curing labour compared with hessian or ponding
- Eliminates the continuous water demand of traditional wet curing – valuable in water-scarce regions
- Reduces plastic shrinkage cracking, surface dusting and permeability of the cured skin
- Fugitive white film gives clear visual confirmation of coverage during application
- Degrades naturally over time, generally removing the need for manual stripping
- Easy water clean-up of equipment with no solvents required
Limitations & considerations
- A temporary curing membrane only – not a sealer, hardener or protective coating
- Curing efficiency depends heavily on correct timing and uniform film thickness; thin or missed areas under-cure
- Where subsequent bonded toppings, screeds, tiles, coatings or membranes are planned, compatibility and any need to remove residual film must be checked first
- Performance is degraded if applied below the minimum recommended temperature (around 5 deg C) or onto bleeding/standing water
- Not a substitute for good concrete placement, finishing and protection from rain and traffic
- Being water-based, it should be protected from rainfall until the film has formed
- Shelf life and cold-storage conditions must be respected; protect from frost
Selection & best practice
Apply Cure B as a single uniform spray coat the instant the surface bleed-water sheen disappears – not before, not after the surface has dried. Use a clean low-pressure spray with a fine fan nozzle and keep passes slightly overlapping so no strip is left thin; the fugitive white tint should show even coverage with no bare patches or dark concrete showing through. On large pours, organise the spray crew to follow the finishing crew continuously so no area is left exposed for more than a few minutes in hot or windy weather. Do not dilute the product or apply over standing water. In peak North Indian summer, schedule pours for cooler hours and consider evaporation retarders ahead of finishing, with Cure B sealing the surface immediately afterwards. Always confirm compatibility before applying any bonded topping, screed, coating or tile adhesive over a Cure B-treated surface – mechanically remove residual film by light grinding or shot-blasting if the finish manufacturer requires a clean substrate. Protect the freshly sprayed surface from rain, foot and vehicle traffic until the film is fully formed, and store containers in shade, off the ground and protected from frost.

How we position Fosroc Cure B
Fosroc Cure B sits in Space Arc Engineering’s curing-compound range as the high-efficiency, water-based spray membrane for large horizontal pours – pavements, runways, bridge decks and big slabs – where water curing is impractical. Within the Fosroc family it complements Concure WB (wax-emulsion curing compound), Concure AB (aluminised/white reflective curing compounds for high-temperature exposure) and resin-based Concure grades; the right choice depends on the specified curing efficiency, reflectivity needs and whether a bonded finish follows. Against competitor products, Cure B competes most directly with Sika Antisol curing compounds, MBS (MYK / BASF-lineage) curing membranes, Dr. Fixit Pidicure-type curing compounds and STP curing systems. Buyers typically choose based on the specified efficiency class (BS 7542 / ASTM C309), coverage economy, water-based safety and supply reliability. Space Arc’s role is to match the application – flatwork, precast, water-retaining or coated substrates – to the correct grade, supply genuine Fosroc material across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, and flag where a sealer/hardener or a removable resin curing compound would serve better than a degrading membrane. For finished floor surfaces, pair early curing with the appropriate hardener or coating system rather than relying on a curing membrane alone.
