Fosroc Polyurea WPE
Spray-applied, 100% solids, two-component pure polyurea elastomeric membrane for seamless, high-durability waterproofing and corrosion protection of concrete and steel.
What is it?
A spray-applied, 100% solids, two-component (ISO + Amine), rapid-curing pure polyurea elastomer that forms a seamless, jointless waterproofing and protective membrane on concrete and steel.
Where is it used?
Below-grade structures, water-retaining tanks, STP/ETP and waste-water linings, podiums and terraces, bridge decks, basements, marine and industrial assets across India.
Why use it?
It cures in seconds, lets the asset return to service within an hour, and combines >300% elongation with high tensile, abrasion and chemical resistance in a single monolithic coat with no laps or seams.
How is it applied?
Surfaces are abrasive-blasted and primed (Nitoprime 31 or Primer 195), then the heated 1:1 components are sprayed at high pressure through plural-component equipment by trained applicators to a typical 1.5 mm minimum thickness.
About Fosroc Polyurea WPE
Fosroc Polyurea WPE is a spray-applied, 100% solids, two-component, rapid-curing pure polyurea system engineered as a high-performance waterproofing and protective coating for concrete and steel. The system is built from two reactive parts that are heated and metered together at the spray gun: Fosroc Polyurea ISO WPE (the A side, an isocyanate component) and Fosroc Polyurea AMINE WPE (the B side, an amine resin). When the two streams impinge inside the gun at a 1:1 volume ratio, they react almost instantly to form a tough, seamless elastomeric film. Because the reaction is so fast, the membrane develops a gel within 5 to 10 seconds and can be walked on in roughly two minutes, which is what allows a treated structure to be returned to service within the hour.
What makes Polyurea WPE different from conventional liquid-applied waterproofing is that it is a genuine pure polyurea, not a polyurethane or a hybrid. It contains zero solvent and effectively zero VOC, so there is no shrinkage from solvent loss, no flammability during cure, and no thinning down to films that fail prematurely. The cured coating bridges hairline cracks thanks to its high elongation, resists impact, abrasion and puncture, and forms one continuous monolithic layer over field joints, penetrations and complex geometry where sheet membranes typically fail at laps. For Indian projects this matters because the most common waterproofing failures, ponding water finding a lap, a cold joint, or a construction joint, are designed out when the membrane is sprayed seamlessly.
The product is positioned for demanding, long-life applications: basements and below-grade slabs, water tanks and reservoirs, sewage and effluent treatment plant linings, podium decks, bridge decks, marine and coastal assets, and industrial secondary containment. It also significantly enhances the durability of reinforced concrete by sealing it against chloride and carbonation ingress. Space Arc Engineering supplies Fosroc Polyurea WPE as an authorised Fosroc distributor across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, and can connect specifiers with the trained spray applicators the system requires.
The technical insight
Polyurea WPE cures by an addition reaction between an isocyanate (ISO, A side) and an amine-terminated resin (Amine, B side) rather than by moisture or solvent evaporation. The amine-isocyanate reaction is intrinsically far faster than the polyol-isocyanate reaction used in polyurethanes, which is why gel time is 5 to 10 seconds and the film is insensitive to ambient humidity and temperature during cure. This independence from moisture is the technical reason polyurea can be sprayed in monsoon humidity or on freshly prepared surfaces where a polyurethane would foam or blister. The trade-off is that the reaction is too fast for brush or roller; it demands plural-component, heated, high-pressure spray equipment (block and hose at +70 to +80 degrees C, 120 to 150 bar) that meters and impinges the two streams precisely at 1:1 by volume. The cured elastomer is an aromatic polyurea, which gives excellent mechanical and chemical performance but means the surface will discolour under UV over time; this is purely cosmetic and is overcoated with an aliphatic topcoat (e.g. Nitoproof UVR) where colour stability matters. Adhesion is engineered through the primer layer, not the polyurea itself, so primer selection (Nitoprime 31 for dry concrete above 25 degrees C, Primer 195 for other conditions, with a fire-dried sand broadcast) is the single most important variable governing long-term bond.

- Extremely fast cure: gels in 5 to 10 seconds, walkable in about 2 minutes, in service within an hour
- High elongation (>300%) combined with high tensile strength (>19 MPa) for genuine crack-bridging
- Excellent impact, abrasion and puncture resistance for trafficked and industrial surfaces
- Broad chemical resistance to acids, alkalis, salts, hydrocarbons and sea water for containment use
- Wide service temperature range of -30 degrees C to +135 degrees C suiting Indian climate extremes
- Insensitive to humidity during cure, allowing application in demanding site and monsoon conditions
- Long life cycle and high durability, significantly improving reinforced concrete service life
Limitations & considerations
- Requires specialist plural-component, heated, high-pressure spray equipment and trained applicators; it cannot be brush or roller applied
- Performance depends almost entirely on surface preparation (abrasive blast to a sound profile) and correct priming
- Aromatic polyurea discolours under UV exposure; an aliphatic topcoat is needed where colour stability is important
- Must never be diluted; thinning the product or primers compromises the system
- Application below +5 degrees C requires longer cure times and Fosroc consultation
- The 1.0 litre per square metre minimum coverage demands a highly experienced operator; normal recommended coverage is 1.5 litres per square metre
- Two-side packaging (200 litre drums) and equipment mobilisation make it better suited to medium and large projects than small patch repairs
- Potable water use requires the substrate to be primed with the approved primer system and compliance documentation
Selection & best practice
Specify the membrane by dry film thickness, not by coats: 1.5 mm minimum for external below-grade waterproofing and 2.5 to 3.0 mm for water-retaining structures, applied in a cross-hatch spray pattern. Always blast-clean concrete (per ASTM D4259) or steel (to Sa 2.5, ISO 8501-1) to a sound, dry, contamination-free profile, fill blow-holes and imperfections with the recommended Fosroc filler, then prime: Nitoprime 31 for sound dry concrete above 25 degrees C, or Primer 195 for steel and all other conditions, with a fire-dried sand broadcast for optimum adhesion. Let the primer reach a tack-free state before spraying, and complete the polyurea over freshly cleaned steel before any flash rust reforms. Insist on a trained applicator using calibrated plural-component equipment at the specified block/hose temperatures and pressure, and add an aliphatic UV topcoat wherever appearance matters. How we position Fosroc Polyurea WPE
Fosroc Polyurea WPE sits at the premium, high-performance end of liquid waterproofing, chosen when seamless reliability, fast cure and long service life justify specialist spray application. Within the Fosroc range it complements the brush- and roller-applied membranes for smaller or budget projects (the Nitoproof and Brushbond families) and depends on Fosroc primers (Nitoprime 31, Primer 195) and fillers (Nitomortar) as part of a complete system; it is frequently paired with Fosroc concrete repair mortars and an aliphatic UV topcoat. Against the wider Indian market it competes with other spray pure-polyurea and high-build systems such as Sika’s polyurea range, MBCC/Master Builders Solutions (MasterSeal), STP Limited’s spray membranes, and is a tier above DIY-oriented Dr. Fixit acrylic and cementitious coatings, which suit small residential jobs rather than large tanking or containment. As an authorised Fosroc distributor across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc Engineering supplies genuine Polyurea WPE with the matched primer and topcoat system and access to Fosroc-trained applicators and specification support.
