Fosroc Nitoprime SF
Solvent-free, low-odour clear epoxy primer and sealer that locks down porous concrete and bonds Fosroc Nitoflor flooring systems to the substrate.
What is it?
A solvent-free, clear, low-odour epoxy primer and concrete sealer that penetrates porous cementitious surfaces and acts as the bonding coat beneath Fosroc Nitoflor epoxy floor systems.
Where is it used?
Industrial and commercial floors prepared for resin coatings or screeds, including manufacturing units, processing areas, warehouses, cold stores, pharma and food plants across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.
Why use it?
Being solvent-free it can be applied in poorly ventilated or odour-sensitive areas, seals dusting concrete, blocks pinholing and gives the high inter-coat adhesion a Nitoflor topping needs to perform.
How is it applied?
Mix the two components thoroughly, then apply a thin continuous film by brush or roller to a sound, clean, dry substrate; overcoat with the Nitoflor system within the recommended window before full cure.
About Fosroc Nitoprime SF
Fosroc Nitoprime SF is the solvent-free primer in Fosroc’s Nitoprime range, engineered specifically as a sealer and bonding coat for concrete floors that are about to receive a Nitoflor epoxy coating, self-levelling screed or broadcast system. The “SF” denotes its solvent-free chemistry, which is the property that sets it apart from older solvent-borne primers such as Nitoprime SP. Where a solvent-based primer relies on thinners that flash off into the air, Nitoprime SF cures by a reactive epoxy mechanism with effectively no solvent release, so it carries a low odour and a far lower VOC burden. That single difference unlocks application in spaces a solvent primer cannot safely enter: occupied buildings, kitchens and food-processing halls, pharmaceutical clean areas, cold rooms, basements and any enclosed zone where ventilation is limited or where solvent odour would contaminate stock. As a clear epoxy, it soaks into the surface, seals the open pore structure of the concrete and presents a chemically active, high-bond film for the resin layer that follows.\n\nIn Indian conditions this is a workhorse product rather than a glamorous one. Most industrial floor failures are not failures of the coating itself but of the bond at the concrete interface, and a great many of those trace back to a substrate that was dusty, porous or under-primed. Fresh Indian power-floated concrete, older worn shop-floor slabs and repair patches all behave differently, and all of them benefit from a penetrating primer that binds the surface laitance, kills suction and stops air rising out of the pores as pinholes through a freshly laid topcoat. Space Arc Engineering specifies Nitoprime SF as the first coat in a Nitoflor build-up precisely because getting the primer right is the cheapest insurance against the most expensive defect, delamination of an entire floor. For applicators who already work with the Fosroc system, it slots in as the designed, warranty-friendly bonding layer rather than a generic substitute.
The technical insight
Nitoprime SF is a two-pack reactive epoxy: a resin base and an amine-functional hardener that are blended on site and cure by cross-linking rather than by solvent evaporation. Because there is no solvent fraction to leave the film, the applied coat is close to 100% reactive solids, so almost all of what is applied stays on the floor as cured polymer. That high-solids nature is what makes it both a primer and a sealer at once: instead of a thin solvent-borne film sitting on the surface, the resin wicks into the capillary pores of the concrete and hardens inside them, converting a dusting, absorbent surface into a sealed, mechanically keyed base. The practical consequence on site is twofold. First, blowholes and outgassing are suppressed because the pores are plugged before the topcoat is laid. Second, the cured primer presents fresh, un-oxidised epoxy chemistry to the Nitoflor topcoat, giving a true chemical inter-coat bond rather than a purely mechanical grab, which is why adhesion (often the limiting factor in floor durability) is high. The trade-off inherent to all solvent-free epoxies applies here too: with no solvent to keep viscosity low, working time and flow are temperature-sensitive, so pot life shortens and the film thickens as ambient temperature rises, a real consideration in an Indian summer.
Where it is used
- Primer and bonding coat beneath Fosroc Nitoflor epoxy floor coatings, self-levelling screeds and broadcast systems
- Sealing and dust-proofing of porous, dusting or laitance-affected concrete floor slabs
- Priming in odour-sensitive or poorly ventilated areas where solvent-based primers are unsuitable
- First coat on new power-floated concrete to reduce suction and prevent pinholing of the topcoat
- Priming of concrete repair patches and screeds before resin flooring is applied
- Surface consolidation of weak or friable concrete substrates prior to coating
Key advantages
- Solvent-free, low-odour formulation suitable for enclosed, occupied and ventilation-restricted areas
- Low VOC content compared with solvent-based primers, supporting healthier site conditions and green-building intent
- Clear epoxy that penetrates and seals porous concrete, controlling suction and pinholing
- Provides high inter-coat adhesion for Fosroc Nitoflor systems, reducing delamination risk
- Simple two-component mix applied by brush or roller, with no specialist plant required
- Part of an engineered Fosroc system, supporting single-source responsibility and warranty alignment
Limitations & considerations
- Two-pack product with a limited pot life that shortens sharply as temperature rises; mix only what can be used in time
- Requires a sound, clean and genuinely dry substrate; high moisture or rising damp can compromise the bond
- Not a damp-proof membrane, not a wearing surface, and not a decorative finish on its own
- The subsequent Nitoflor topcoat must be applied within the recommended overcoat window or the bond is reduced
- Solvent-free epoxy is more viscous than solvent-borne primers, so very rough or absorbent surfaces may need a second coat
- Exact India-version figures (coverage, pot life, cure times) must be confirmed from the current Fosroc TDS for the specific pack before use
Selection & best practice
Apply Nitoprime SF only to concrete that is structurally sound, clean, laitance-free and dry, ideally after mechanical preparation such as grinding or shot-blasting and after checking moisture is within the Nitoflor system limits. Mix the full base and hardener together thoroughly, scraping the sides and base of the container so no unmixed resin remains, then spread immediately as a thin, continuous film by brush or roller, avoiding puddles and over-application. On very porous or rough slabs expect to apply a second coat. Most importantly, plan the job around the overcoat window: lay the Nitoflor topcoat after the primer is touch-dry but still within the recommended interval so a chemical bond forms; if the primer is left too long it should be lightly abraded before recoating. In Delhi NCR summer heat, batch small quantities to beat the shortened pot life and prime in the cooler part of the day. Always work to the figures in the current product-specific Fosroc technical data sheet rather than to generic values.

Industry use cases
Pharmaceutical & food processing
Used as the low-odour bonding primer for Nitoflor hygienic epoxy floors in clean rooms, processing halls and packing areas where solvent smell could taint product or breach hygiene norms.
Manufacturing & engineering plants
Seals dusting shop-floor concrete and primes it for heavy-duty Nitoflor coatings in machine shops, assembly lines and production bays across NCR industrial belts like Manesar, Faridabad and Bawal.
Warehousing & cold storage
Primes large slab areas in distribution centres and cold stores, suppressing pinholing and giving the topcoat the adhesion it needs under constant forklift and rack-load traffic.
Commercial & institutional interiors
Suitable for occupied buildings, basements, kitchens and labs where work continues nearby, because the solvent-free chemistry keeps odour and VOC exposure low during application.
Concrete repair & refurbishment
Used to consolidate and seal repaired or worn floor patches before a Nitoflor screed or coating is laid, tying old and new substrate into one bonded surface.

How we position Fosroc Nitoprime SF
Within the Fosroc range, Nitoprime SF sits alongside its sibling primers and should be chosen on the basis of environment and chemistry. Its closest counterpart is the solvent-based Nitoprime SP: choose SF when low odour and low VOC matter (occupied, enclosed or ventilation-poor areas) and SP only where a solvent-borne penetrating primer is specifically called for. Other Fosroc solvent-free epoxy primers such as Nitoprime 50 and Nitoprime 31 serve similar concrete-priming roles, and on a typical project Nitoprime SF feeds directly into Nitoflor topcoats and screeds, with Fosroc Nitomortar or Renderoc systems handling any concrete repair beforehand. Against the wider market, Nitoprime SF competes with solvent-free epoxy floor primers from Sika (Sikafloor-156/161 and similar bonding primers), MYK Arment / MBS, Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) flooring primers and STP Ltd. Many of these are technically comparable two-pack epoxy primers; the honest differentiator is system integration. The strongest reason to use Nitoprime SF is that it is the engineered, warranty-aligned primer for a Fosroc Nitoflor floor, giving single-source responsibility from primer to wearing surface. If the topcoat is a Sika or Dr. Fixit system, the matching primer from that manufacturer is usually the correct choice. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor in Delhi NCR and Pan-India, specifies Nitoprime SF where a Fosroc flooring build-up is being installed and will recommend the right alternative where another system is in use.
