What is it?

An emulsified, ready-to-use mould release agent blending mineral oils, water and reactive chemicals that form a hydrophobic skin between shutter and concrete for clean stripping.

Where is it used?

Site shuttering and precast yards across India — plywood, steel and plastic formwork for columns, beams, slabs, walls and precast units, including steam-cured production.

Why use it?

It chemically reacts with cement alkali so concrete releases cleanly with minimal blowholes, staining and shutter damage, cutting remedial work and extending formwork life.

How is it applied?

Stirred well, then applied as one thin, even coat by brush, sponge or mould-oil sprayer over a clean shutter face just before concrete is placed.

About Fosroc Reebol Standard

Fosroc Reebol Standard is an emulsified chemical mould release agent used between formwork and freshly placed concrete so that shutters strip quickly, cleanly and without damaging either the casting or the mould. Unlike a plain mineral mould oil that works only as a physical barrier, Reebol Standard is a formulated blend of mineral oils, selected chemicals and water. When it meets the alkalinity of the cement matrix, the active chemicals react to form a thin, strongly water-repellent skin on the shutter face. This hydrophobic layer prevents the cement paste from bonding to the mould and lets entrapped air escape during pouring and vibration, which is the single biggest cause of blowholes and surface pitting on shuttered faces.\n\nFor Indian site and precast conditions, where plywood, steel and plastic shutters are reused many times under hot weather and aggressive cement chemistries, this matters. The product is supplied as a white-brownish liquid that is ready for direct application — no dilution or on-site mixing is needed, which removes a common source of error on busy sites. It is equally effective on wood and metal moulds, and works particularly well on GRP and other resinous coatings. Reebol Standard is also suitable for use with steam-cured concrete, making it relevant to precast and prestressed plants that accelerate curing. By keeping the shutter face clean, it reduces the cleaning effort needed before the next pour and protects steel formwork against corrosion, both of which lengthen usable formwork life. For Space Arc Engineering clients in Delhi NCR and across India, it is a dependable, mid-tier release agent for ready-mixed and precast work where fair-faced finish and formwork economy both matter.

The technical insight

The performance difference between Reebol Standard and an ordinary mould oil comes from chemistry, not just lubrication. A conventional oil sits as a passive film; Reebol Standard’s active agents react with free alkali (calcium hydroxide and similar) at the cement interface to build a hydrophobic, water-repellent skin in situ. This skin repels the surplus water that bleeds toward the mould face, and by shielding the surface concrete from that water it preserves uniform texture and colour — directly attacking the staining and patchiness that plague fair-faced work. The same film lets trapped air migrate out during vibration, so blowhole density drops. The trade-off built into its design is that, because the reaction is alkali-driven, it is not recommended with white cement, where any faint reaction product can show. The reported specific gravity of 0.96 at 27 degrees C reflects the oil-plus-water emulsion, and the flash point above 100 degrees C keeps the on-site flammability risk low. Coverage is high — up to 60 m2 per litre on steel — but absorption is heavy on fresh plywood, so the first coat on new ply consumes far more material and yield only settles down on reused shutters. Applying the thinnest effective film is critical: over-application pools in corners and causes surface dusting or, in the worst case, set retardation on the concrete face.

Where it is used

  • Stripping agent for site formwork on columns, beams, slabs, retaining walls and shear walls
  • Precast and prestressed yards casting panels, blocks, pipes and segments, including steam-cured production
  • Fair-faced and architectural concrete where blemish-free, uniform-coloured surfaces are specified
  • Coating for plywood, steel and plastic shutters to ease release and reduce paste build-up
  • Protective film on steel formwork and shutter steel to inhibit corrosion between pours
  • Treatment of GRP and resin-coated moulds, including Reebol Standard-coated wooden surfaces

Key advantages

  • Chemically reacts with cement alkali to form a water-repellent skin for clean, easy stripping
  • Minimises blowholes, surface blemishes and staining for high-quality fair-faced concrete
  • Supplied ready-to-use as a single-coat liquid — no dilution or site mixing required
  • High coverage: 35-40 m2/L on wood and up to 60 m2/L on steel keeps applied cost low
  • Protects steel formwork against corrosion and reduces shutter cleaning before reuse
  • Suitable for wood, steel, plastic, GRP and resinous moulds, and for steam-cured concrete
  • Low flammability risk with flash point above 100 degrees C

Limitations & considerations

  • Not recommended for use with white cement, where the chemical reaction can mar the finish
  • Absorption is high on fresh plywood, so first-use coverage is lower until shutters are seasoned
  • Over-application causes pooling, surface dusting and possible set retardation on the concrete face
  • Shutter faces must be cleaned of all old cement, deposits and previous oil before recoating
  • Shelf life is limited to 6 months in original unopened containers under warehouse conditions
  • Solvent/detergent and stiff brushing are needed for full removal before mould repair or resealing

Selection & best practice

Always stir the container thoroughly before use, then apply a single thin, even coat with a brush, sponge or correctly-nozzled mould-oil sprayer over a fully cleaned shutter — remove all old cement, rust and previous oil first. Aim for the thinnest film that wets the whole face; wipe or brush off any loose particles and avoid pooling in corners, since excess leads to dusting or retardation. On fresh plywood, expect heavy first-coat absorption and recoat if the pour is delayed. Keep drums sealed, store under cover, and use within the 6-month shelf life. Wear gloves and eye protection, ensure good ventilation, and do not substitute it where white cement or a strict no-reaction finish is specified.

Industry use cases

Ready-mixed / cast-in-situ construction

Site teams coat plywood and steel shutters for columns, beams and slabs to strip cleanly and cut blowhole remediation on exposed faces.

Precast and prestressed concrete

Precast yards apply it on steel and GRP moulds for panels, blocks and segments, including steam-cured lines, to speed de-moulding and protect moulds.

Architectural / fair-faced concrete

Used where uniform colour and a blemish-free shuttered finish are specified, reducing staining and the cost of patching and rubbing down.

Infrastructure and high-rise

On large repetitive pours, high coverage and reduced shutter cleaning lower applied cost and keep formwork in service over many reuse cycles.

Formwork hire and management

Corrosion protection on steel shutters and minimal paste build-up extend formwork life, protecting the value of reusable shuttering assets.

Frequently asked questions

What is Fosroc Reebol Standard used for?
It is a chemical mould release agent applied to formwork before concreting so that shutters strip quickly and cleanly, producing fair-faced concrete with fewer blowholes and stains while protecting wood, steel and plastic moulds.
How is Reebol Standard different from ordinary shuttering oil?
Plain mould oil acts only as a physical barrier. Reebol Standard’s chemicals react with the alkali in cement to form a water-repellent skin on the shutter face, giving superior release, fewer surface defects and corrosion protection for steel formwork.
What coverage does Reebol Standard give?
On wooden shutters it covers about 35 to 40 m2 per litre and on steel up to 60 m2 per litre, depending on porosity and texture. Fresh plywood absorbs more, so first-use coverage is lower and improves on reused shutters.
How should Reebol Standard be applied?
Clean the shutter of all old cement and oil, stir the product well, then apply one thin, even coat by brush, sponge or mould-oil sprayer. Use only the thinnest film needed — over-application can cause surface dusting or set retardation.
Can Reebol Standard be used with white cement?
No. Because the release action depends on a reaction with cement alkali, Fosroc does not recommend it with white cement, where the reaction can affect the finish. For white cement use an alternative such as Fosroc’s Reebol WB or a comparable barrier-type agent.
What packaging and shelf life does it have?
It is supplied in 200 litre drums and 20 litre and 5 litre containers, with a minimum shelf life of 6 months in original unopened containers stored under warehouse conditions. Stir thoroughly before use.

How we position Fosroc Reebol Standard

Reebol Standard sits in the middle of Fosroc’s Reebol mould-release range as a reliable, economical chemical release agent for general site and precast work. Where a finer architectural finish, white cement compatibility or a more environmentally friendly profile is needed, Fosroc’s own Reebol (high-performance), Reebol Emulsion / Reebol Emulsion Xtra and the water-based Reebol WB are the step-up options, while neat oils like the Reebol M-series serve simpler barrier-only duties. Against competitor products it competes with Sika Separol and Sika’s Rugasol/release range, MBS (MYK Schomburg) and BASF/MBS Master Builders release agents, Dr. Fixit shuttering oils and STP mould release agents. Honestly positioned, Reebol Standard is a sound mid-tier choice for fair-faced cast-in-situ and steam-cured precast where good release, corrosion protection and high coverage matter; specifiers needing white-cement work, low-VOC water-based chemistry or premium architectural finishes should evaluate Reebol WB or equivalent water-based offerings from Sika, MBS or Dr. Fixit. As an authorised Fosroc distributor, Space Arc Engineering supplies Reebol Standard with genuine batch documentation and technical guidance across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.
