Fosroc Reebol
A mineral-oil-based chemical mould release agent for quick, clean stripping of formwork and high-quality, stain-free fair-faced concrete.
What is it?
Fosroc Reebol is a mineral-oil-based chemical mould release agent, supplied as a low-viscosity, pale straw coloured liquid. It is classified by the Concrete Society as a Category 5 chemical release agent.
Where is it used?
Used across India on building, infrastructure and precast projects wherever formwork must be stripped cleanly to leave a high-quality, fair-faced concrete finish, including timber, steel and GRP moulds.
Why use it?
It provides a chemical release action superior to plain oil-based agents (Categories 1-4), delivering quick, clean stripping, stain-free fair-faced concrete even with white cement, and corrosion protection for steel formwork.
How is it applied?
Applied thinly and evenly by brush, sponge or conventional spray (spray recommended where suitable) at 20 to 60 m2 per litre, with a single application on non-absorbent surfaces.
About Fosroc Reebol
Fosroc Reebol is Space Arc Engineering’s go-to chemical mould release agent for contractors and precast manufacturers chasing a flawless, stain-free concrete face. Where plain oil release agents fall into the Concrete Society’s Categories 1 to 4, Reebol is engineered — a purpose-formulated mix of mineral oils and selected additives — to produce a genuine chemical release action, placing it in Category 5, the chemical release agent classification, and explaining why it consistently outperforms ordinary form oils on finish quality.
In appearance, Reebol is a low-viscosity, pale straw coloured liquid with a specific gravity of typically 0.83 at 20 degrees C. Its low viscosity allows it to be spread thinly and uniformly, which is essential to avoid the over-application that causes staining, retardation or dusting on the cast face. Applied correctly, Reebol leaves moulds releasing quickly and cleanly while producing high-quality, fair-faced, stain-free concrete – even on demanding mixes made with white cement, where staining tolerance is lowest.
Reebol suits a wide range of formwork: timber (both plain and polyurethane coated), steel, GRP and other resinous formwork surfaces. On steel formwork it offers a further benefit by inhibiting corrosion, helping preserve the mould between pours. It is also designed for use over Reebol Formcote-sealed surfaces as part of the wider Fosroc formwork-treatment system.
As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator serving Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc Engineering supplies genuine Fosroc Reebol with technical support on selection, coverage and application. For projects evaluating alternatives, comparable mould release agents in the Indian market include Sika Separol, BASF MasterFinish and Pidilite/Dr. Fixit form release products; we are happy to advise on the right fit for your formwork system and finish requirements.
The technical insight
The defining characteristic of Reebol is its chemical – rather than purely physical – release mechanism. Plain oil-based agents (Concrete Society Categories 1-4) work by forming a simple barrier film. Reebol’s blend of mineral oils and selected additives instead reacts at the mould-concrete interface to break the bond more effectively, which is why it is classified as a Category 5 chemical release agent under the Concrete Society’s Notes on formwork release agents and coatings (April 1981). Its low viscosity and 0.83 specific gravity are practical assets on site: a thin, even film at 20 to 60 m2 per litre is enough, so the product goes far and the risk of surface defects from over-application is reduced. Note that Reebol is a mineral-oil-based liquid – it is not an emulsion, not water-based, and not a chemically reactive PCE/SNF admixture; those describe entirely different product classes.
Where it is used
- Stripping timber formwork (plain and polyurethane coated) on cast in-situ structures
- Releasing steel moulds while inhibiting corrosion between pours
- Releasing GRP and other resinous formwork surfaces
- Producing fair-faced, stain-free architectural concrete, including white-cement mixes
- Precast concrete element manufacture requiring a high-quality cast face
- Use over Reebol Formcote-sealed formwork as part of the Fosroc treatment system
Key advantages
- Chemical release action superior to plain oil-based agents (Concrete Society Categories 1-4)
- Quick, clean and easy stripping of moulds and formwork
- High-quality, fair-faced, stain-free concrete, even when using white cement
- Inhibits corrosion of steel formwork, extending mould life
- Low viscosity spreads thinly and evenly for economical coverage of 20 to 60 m2 per litre
- Suitable for a wide range of substrates: timber, steel, GRP and resinous surfaces
- Can be applied by brush, sponge or conventional spray to suit site conditions
Limitations & considerations
- Mineral-oil-based – not water-based or an emulsion, so handling and over-spray controls for oil products apply
- Must be applied thinly and evenly; over-application can compromise the concrete surface
- Coverage varies with mould porosity and texture, so site trials help confirm actual yield
- On absorbent surfaces a single application may not be sufficient (single application suits non-absorbent moulds)
- Not a chemically reactive admixture (PCE/SNF) – it is a surface-applied formwork release agent only
Selection & best practice
Apply Reebol as a thin, continuous film and wipe off any surplus before placing concrete. Conventional spray is recommended where suitable for the most uniform, economical coverage; on non-absorbent moulds such as steel or GRP a single application is sufficient. Confirm actual coverage on site within the 20 to 60 m2 per litre range, since mould porosity and texture move the figure, and always trial on white-cement or critical fair-faced work first to lock in a stain-free result.

Industry use cases
Architectural / Fair-faced Concrete
Specified where the as-cast finish is exposed and must be stain-free; Reebol’s chemical release suits white-cement and feature concrete that is intolerant of oil staining.
Precast Concrete Manufacturing
Used on steel, GRP and timber moulds in precast yards for quick, clean demoulding and a consistent high-quality cast face across repeated pours.
Infrastructure & Civil Works
Applied to formwork on bridges, retaining structures and large in-situ pours where fast, clean stripping keeps formwork cycles efficient.
Steel Formwork Systems
Chosen for steel shuttering because it releases cleanly while inhibiting corrosion of the mould, protecting the investment between casts.
