What is it?

A low-viscosity, oil-based chemical mould release agent from Fosroc’s Reebol shuttering-oil range, formulated from a blend of mineral oils and selected additives.

Where is it used?

Applied to all types of concrete structural formwork – steel, plywood, timber and resinous (GRP) shutters – on building, infrastructure and precast sites across India.

Why use it?

It releases concrete cleanly from the mould, reduces surface blemishes and blow-holes, inhibits corrosion of steel formwork and extends shutter reuse, all at a lower cost than premium emulsion grades.

How is it applied?

Wiped, brushed or spray-applied as a thin, continuous film over clean formwork before each concrete pour; surplus is removed so no pooling remains.

About Fosroc Reebol EG

Fosroc Reebol EG belongs to the long-established Reebol family of formwork release agents, the brand most Indian site engineers simply call “shuttering oil.” Where ordinary diesel-and-waste-oil mixes leave stains, retarded surfaces and a poor bond for subsequent finishes, Reebol EG is a purpose-formulated blend of refined mineral oils and selected additives designed specifically to part hardened concrete from the mould without contaminating either surface. It is supplied ready to use as a low-viscosity, pale-straw to golden-yellow liquid that needs no dilution or mixing on site.

The “EG” grade sits at the economical end of the Reebol range. It is positioned for high-turnover work – conventional cast-in-situ RCC frames, columns, beams, slabs, retaining walls and repetitive precast elements – where contractors need a dependable, clean-stripping agent at a sensible rupee-per-square-metre cost. Because the product is oil-based and ready to use, there is no induction time, no emulsion to break and no shelf-life surprises from poorly stored water-thinned material, which makes it forgiving in the hands of a large, rotating site workforce.

On contact, the active additives in Reebol EG interact at the concrete-mould interface to form a thin release film. This film stops the cement matrix from gripping the shutter face, so panels and forms lift away cleanly rather than tearing the concrete skin or leaving cement build-up on the formwork. The practical result is a more even, fair-faced finish with fewer blow-holes and surface blemishes, less honeycombing at corners, and far less time spent scraping and cleaning shutters between pours. On steel formwork the oil film also acts as a temporary corrosion inhibitor, an important benefit in humid coastal and monsoon conditions common across much of India.

Space Arc Engineering supplies Reebol EG as an authorised Fosroc distributor serving Delhi NCR and projects Pan-India. As with any release agent, the grade should be matched to the job: Reebol EG is the workhorse oil-based choice, while water-based emulsion grades (Reebol Emulsion / Emulsion Xtra) suit jobs that demand the lowest possible staining risk or a near-odourless, lower-flammability product. Our technical team can advise on the right Reebol grade and realistic coverage rates for your shutter type and concrete mix.

The technical insight

A mould release agent works at the alkaline concrete-to-form interface. Oil-based chemical agents such as Reebol EG carry additives that react with the free lime (calcium hydroxide) generated as cement hydrates, producing a thin, water-repellent metallic-soap film at the boundary. That film breaks the adhesion and suction that would otherwise bond fresh concrete to the shutter, so the form releases with minimal pull on the green concrete surface. This chemical action is the key difference from neat mineral oil or diesel, which only provide a passive physical barrier and tend to leave oily stains, retarded “dusty” surfaces and patchy blow-holes. The trade-off to understand is dosage: too heavy a film causes pooling, surface retardation and bug-holes, while too thin a film risks local sticking – so the correct technique is a thin, even, continuous coat with all surplus wiped off. Being oil-based, Reebol EG has a relatively high flash point but is still a combustible petroleum product, so it is less suited than water-based emulsions to enclosed precast sheds where odour, overspray and fire-loading must be minimised.

Where it is used

  • Cast-in-situ RCC frames – columns, beams, slabs and shear walls using steel or plywood shutters
  • Repetitive precast elements such as boundary walls, paver moulds, kerb stones and lintels
  • Tunnel-form, mivan-style aluminium and conventional ply systems for residential high-rise construction
  • Retaining walls, water-retaining structures and basement raft/wall formwork
  • Bridge and infrastructure formwork including pier caps, abutments and box-section shutters
  • Fair-faced / architectural concrete where a clean, stain-free as-struck finish is required

Key advantages

  • Economical, ready-to-use oil base – no dilution, mixing or induction time on site
  • Clean, easy striking with reduced cement build-up on the shutter face
  • Produces fair-faced, stain-free concrete with fewer blow-holes and surface blemishes
  • Low viscosity gives higher coverage per litre than thick conventional mould oils
  • Compatible with all formwork types – steel, plywood, timber and resinous (GRP) surfaces
  • Inhibits corrosion of steel formwork, useful in humid and coastal Indian conditions
  • Extends usable life of formwork and cuts cleaning time between pours
  • Non-staining, so suitable even with white-cement and architectural finishes

Limitations & considerations

  • Oil-based and combustible – less suitable than water-based emulsions for enclosed precast sheds where fire-loading and odour are concerns
  • Over-application causes pooling, surface retardation and bug-holes; requires a thin, even film with surplus removed
  • Coverage varies widely with shutter porosity and texture, so site trials are needed to confirm consumption rates
  • Should be applied only to clean, dry formwork – dust, old concrete or rust under the film causes defects
  • Not a curing compound or a permanent protective coating; it is a single-pour release film only
  • Region-specific datasheet and safety sheet must be referenced, as exact figures can vary by market

Selection & best practice

Apply Reebol EG to clean, dry formwork that is free of dust, laitance, rust and old concrete. Lay down a thin, even, continuous film by clean cloth, brush, roller or fine spray, then wipe away any surplus so no oil pools in the form – excess is the single biggest cause of staining and blow-holes. Treat shutters shortly before each pour rather than days in advance, re-coat after every strike, and run a small site trial on your actual shutter type to fix the real coverage rate before bulk ordering. Keep the product sealed, away from heat and naked flame, and confirm the current region-specific Fosroc datasheet and safety sheet for your project.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fosroc Reebol EG just diesel or waste oil for shuttering?
No. Reebol EG is a purpose-formulated blend of refined mineral oils plus active release additives that react at the concrete surface to form a release film. Unlike diesel or waste oil, it strips cleanly without the staining, retarded surfaces and blow-holes those crude substitutes cause.
How much area does one litre of Reebol EG cover?
Coverage for Fosroc Reebol shuttering oils is typically in the region of 20-60 m2 per litre, depending heavily on how porous and rough the shutter face is. Smooth steel covers far more than rough timber, so always confirm consumption with a small trial on your own formwork.
Can Reebol EG be used on steel, plywood and timber formwork?
Yes. It is compatible with all common formwork types – steel, plywood, timber and resinous GRP faces – and on steel shutters it additionally inhibits corrosion, which is valuable in humid and coastal Indian conditions.
Does it need to be diluted or mixed before use?
No. Reebol EG is supplied ready to use. There is no water dilution, mixing or induction time, which makes it convenient and forgiving for large rotating site crews.
How is Reebol EG different from Reebol Emulsion / Emulsion Xtra?
Reebol EG is the economical oil-based grade. Reebol Emulsion and Emulsion Xtra are water-based emulsions that combine chemical release with a lower-flammability, lower-odour, very low-staining profile – generally preferred for enclosed precast sheds and architectural fair-faced work. Space Arc can advise which fits your job.
Does Space Arc Engineering supply Reebol EG across India?
Yes. Space Arc Engineering is an authorised Fosroc distributor based in Delhi NCR and supplies Reebol EG and the wider Fosroc range Pan-India, with technical support on grade selection, coverage and application.

How we position Fosroc Reebol EG

Reebol EG is the economical, oil-based workhorse of Fosroc’s Reebol shuttering-oil range. Within Fosroc, step up to the water-based Reebol Emulsion or Reebol Emulsion Xtra when you need the lowest staining risk, lower odour and lower flammability – typically for enclosed precast sheds and architectural fair-faced concrete – and consider Reebol Standard for general oil-based duty. Against the wider market, Reebol EG competes with mould release agents such as Sika Separol and the MBS, Dr. Fixit and STP (Pidilite) shuttering-oil ranges; the practical choice usually comes down to release performance on your specific shutter, staining tolerance and delivered rupee-per-square-metre cost. As an authorised Fosroc distributor, Space Arc Engineering can supply Reebol EG, benchmark it honestly against these alternatives, and pair it with complementary Fosroc systems – curing compounds (Concure range), repair mortars (Renderoc) and protective coatings (Dekguard / Nitocote) – to cover the full concrete placement and protection cycle.
