Sikagard® PU UR

Two-component, UV-stable polyurethane topcoat and sealer for concrete and steel

Product Overview

Sikagard® PU UR is a two-component, polyurethane resin based protective topcoat and sealer engineered for concrete and steel surfaces exposed to sunlight and aggressive surroundings. Once mixed and applied, it cures into a tough, glossy film that resists UV without yellowing or chalking, sealing the substrate against weathering, chemicals and atmospheric attack. It bonds to concrete, render, stone, asbestos cement, steel and iron, making it a versatile finish coat for cooling towers, bridges, chimneys, effluent plants and coastal steelwork. Available in a wide range of RAL shades, it combines protection with a clean decorative appearance. Space Arc Engineering, an authorized Sika project distributor in India, supplies Sikagard® PU UR with technical guidance for specifiers, applicators and asset owners working on durability-critical projects.

Features & Benefits

  • UV-stable polyurethane film holds its gloss and colour without yellowing or chalking under prolonged sun exposure
  • Bonds across mixed substrates — concrete, render, stone, asbestos cement, steel and iron — for unified protection
  • Forms a hard, sealing layer that defends against weathering, chemicals and marine atmospheres
  • Tensile adhesion of at least 1.5 N/mm² on concrete gives a dependable, long-lasting bond
  • Wide RAL shade range lets you protect and decorate in a single specified system
  • Passed 1440-hour artificial weathering with no flaking, blooming or corrosion

Technical Highlights

CoverageApproximately 0.15 kg/m² per coat, applied in two coats; adjust for substrate porosity.
StrengthTensile adhesion strength of at least 1.5 N/mm² on concrete (ISO 4624).
PerformanceAround 150-micron total dry film in two coats; survived 1440 hours of artificial weathering with no chalking, flaking or corrosion.
Application ConditionsApply between +10°C and +40°C with relative humidity up to 70% and substrate moisture at or below 4%; pot life about 30 minutes at +30°C.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Sikagard® PU UR used for?

It is a two-component polyurethane topcoat and sealer for protecting and decorating concrete and steel structures exposed to UV, weathering and aggressive marine or chemical environments, such as cooling towers, bridges and effluent plants.

How much Sikagard® PU UR do I need per square metre?

Consumption is roughly 0.15 kg/m² per coat in a typical two-coat system, giving about 150 microns of dry film. Actual usage varies with substrate porosity and texture — refer to the TDS for project quantities.

Does Sikagard® PU UR yellow or chalk in sunlight?

No. It is formulated for UV resistance and passed 1440 hours of artificial weathering with no chalking, checking, flaking or blooming, so it retains its gloss and colour outdoors.

What are the application conditions for Sikagard® PU UR?

Apply when air and substrate temperatures are between +10°C and +40°C, relative humidity is no higher than 70% and substrate moisture is at or below 4%. Pot life is about 30 minutes at +30°C.
