Fosroc Renderoc WF
Single-component, structural-grade window-frame filling and patch-repair mortar with low water permeability and built-in shrinkage compensation.
What is it?
A single-component, pre-bagged, cement-based structural-grade mortar formulated to fill the annular gap between a window frame and the surrounding concrete substrate, and to carry out small, localised patch repairs.
Where is it used?
Around window and door frame perimeters, ledges and reveals in RCC and masonry construction, and on small spalled or pitted concrete areas where a high-build, formwork-free reinstatement is required.
Why use it?
It bonds tenaciously to concrete, builds thickness in one application without formwork, resists water ingress, and being alkaline and chloride-free it passivates and protects embedded reinforcement.
How is it applied?
The pre-bagged powder is gauged with clean water, mixed to a trowellable consistency, worked into the prepared, saturated-surface-dry gap or repair area, compacted and finished, then cured to control early-age moisture loss.
About Fosroc Renderoc WF
Fosroc Renderoc WF is a specialist member of the Renderoc family of cementitious repair and reinstatement mortars. Where most Renderoc grades are general concrete-repair mortars, the WF (window-frame) grade is purpose-built for one of the most common and most leak-prone detail in Indian building construction: the annular gap left between a fixed window or door frame and the structural concrete or masonry that surrounds it. On site this gap is frequently packed with weak site-batched sand-cement, which shrinks, cracks and becomes the entry point for rainwater that later shows up as damp patches, efflorescence and peeling paint on internal walls. Renderoc WF replaces that improvised packing with a factory-controlled, single-component, structural-grade mortar that delivers consistent strength and durability batch after batch. Fosroc describes it as a medium-weight formulation that enables high build, so the gap can be filled in fewer passes and, importantly, without the time and cost of erecting formwork. The same characteristics make it a convenient choice for small, localised patch repairs to spalled, honeycombed or pitted concrete. Because the mortar is alkaline in nature and contains no chloride admixtures, it re-establishes a protective passivating environment around embedded steel reinforcement rather than accelerating its corrosion. It also exhibits extremely low permeability to water and an excellent bond to the concrete substrate, two properties that directly address the waterproofing failures that window-frame junctions are notorious for in monsoon-exposed Indian facades. Renderoc WF is supplied as a pre-bagged, ready-to-use powder, which removes the site-batching variation that undermines hand-mixed mortars and gives a predictable, repeatable result across a project. For Space Arc Engineering’s clients across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, it sits in the toolkit as a targeted, detail-level repair material rather than a bulk structural mortar.
The technical insight
The engineering value of Renderoc WF lies in how it solves the window-frame junction as a coupled structural and durability problem. The gap between a frame and concrete is geometrically awkward, often deep and narrow, and is subject to differential movement and direct rain exposure. A weak, shrinkage-prone packing mortar fails on three fronts at once: it debonds from the substrate, it cracks as it dries, and it offers a clear water path. Renderoc WF is engineered to close all three. Its exceptional shrinkage-compensation system counters the drying and plastic shrinkage that would otherwise open cracks at the interface, so the seal stays intact. Its extremely low water permeability means that even where the joint is wetted, capillary transport of water into the building envelope is minimised. Its excellent bond to concrete keeps the mortar mechanically locked to the surrounding structure under thermal and structural cycling. The medium-weight, high-build rheology lets the material be placed in substantial thickness in a single operation and hold its shape vertically and overhead without slumping or needing formwork support, which is what makes it practical for the irregular profiles found around frames. Finally, the alkaline, chloride-free chemistry is deliberate corrosion-management: chlorides are the primary driver of reinforcement corrosion in Indian concrete, so a repair material placed in contact with, or close to, embedded steel must never introduce them and should instead maintain the high-pH passivating film on the bar. Together these properties make Renderoc WF a small-volume, high-consequence material whose performance is judged less by raw compressive strength and more by bond, dimensional stability and water-tightness at a critical detail.
Where it is used
- Filling the annular gap between window frames and the surrounding concrete or masonry substrate
- Filling the gap around door frames, ventilator frames and louvre frames set into RCC or block walls
- Sealing and making good the junction at reveals, jambs, sills and lintels to resist rainwater ingress
- Small, localised patch repairs to spalled, honeycombed or pitted concrete
- Reinstating cover to embedded reinforcement at minor defects without formwork
- Detail-level repairs on facades and balconies exposed to monsoon-driven rain
- Touch-up and making-good of formwork tie-bolt holes and minor surface blemishes
Key advantages
- Medium-weight, high-build formulation allows the gap to be filled in fewer applications, saving time and labour
- Eliminates the need for formwork on vertical and overhead window-frame details
- Extremely low permeability to water helps stop rainwater tracking through the frame junction
- Excellent bond to the concrete substrate for a durable, crack-resistant interface
- Exceptional shrinkage-compensation system minimises drying-shrinkage cracking at the joint
- Single-component and pre-bagged, so it overcomes site-batched mix variation and gives consistent results
- Contains no chloride admixtures, avoiding chloride-driven corrosion of embedded steel
- Alkaline in nature, helping to maintain a passivating, protective environment around reinforcement
Limitations & considerations
- Purpose-designed for window/door frame gaps and small patch repairs, not for large-volume or deep structural concrete reinstatement (use a Renderoc structural-repair grade for that)
- Not a flexible joint sealant; genuinely moving joints require a gun-grade sealant such as a Fosroc Nitoseal product, not a rigid mortar
- Performance depends on correct substrate preparation; the surface must be sound, clean and brought to a saturated-surface-dry condition before placing
- Like all cement-based mortars it needs proper curing to develop strength and durability and to control early shrinkage, especially in Indian summer heat
- Application in extreme heat or direct sun without protection can cause rapid water loss and reduced quality
- Numeric performance values (compressive strength, density, layer thickness, coverage) should be confirmed against the current region-specific Fosroc technical data sheet before specification
Selection & best practice
Treat the window-frame gap as a durability detail, not a cosmetic one. Cut back and remove any loose or weak existing packing, expose sound concrete and masonry, and remove dust, oil and laitance. Bring the substrate to a saturated-surface-dry condition (damp but with no free standing water) so the dry substrate does not draw mixing water out of the mortar. Gauge Renderoc WF with clean water using the manufacturer’s recommended water content and mix mechanically to a uniform, lump-free, trowellable consistency; do not over-water to improve workability, as this reduces strength and increases shrinkage. Place and firmly compact the mortar into the full depth of the gap to avoid voids behind the frame, building up in layers where the depth is large, and finish flush. Where the gap is deep or where the frame must take fixings, ensure intimate contact with both the frame edge and the concrete face. Cure the placed mortar by protecting it from rapid drying, wind and direct sun, using a curing membrane such as a Fosroc Concure product or damp hessian, which is critical under Delhi NCR and Pan-India summer conditions. For genuinely moving or thermally cycling joints, do not rely on the rigid mortar alone, finish the detail with an appropriate Fosroc polysulphide or MS-polymer sealant. Always work to the current region-specific Fosroc TDS and method statement.

How we position Fosroc Renderoc WF
Renderoc WF occupies a deliberately narrow niche in the Fosroc range: it is the detail material for window- and door-frame gaps and small patch repairs, not a bulk structural-repair mortar. Within the Fosroc family it should be read alongside, not in place of, the structural-repair grades — Renderoc GP for general vertical repairs, Renderoc HB/HB45 for high-build vertical and overhead work, and Renderoc S/HS for high-strength polymer-modified structural repair — which are the correct choices when the volume or depth of defective concrete is significant. For the moving part of a frame joint it pairs with a Fosroc sealant such as Nitoseal MS or a polysulphide grade, and it is best finished with a Fosroc Concure curing membrane. Against the wider Indian market, the comparable competitor positions are not single-product like-for-likes but category equivalents: Sika offers cementitious repair mortars under SikaTop and Sika MonoTop and frame/perimeter sealing via Sikaflex; MBCC/Master Builders Solutions (formerly BASF) offers the MasterEmaco repair-mortar range; Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) addresses window-junction waterproofing with products such as its LW+/Pidicrete and joint-sealing systems; and STP Limited offers cementitious repair mortars and Vulkem/Shalitex sealants for joints. The honest distinction is that Renderoc WF is bought for a specific, high-consequence detail where consistent, chloride-free, low-permeability, formwork-free gap filling matters; for large structural repair or for a purely flexible joint, the right answer is a different product — whether from Fosroc or a competing brand — and Space Arc Engineering can advise on the correct selection for the application.
