Fosroc Cebex 112
Air-entraining mortar plasticiser for sand-cement mortar — better workability, cohesion and yield, chloride-free and compatible with all common cements.
What is it?
Fosroc Cebex 112 is a mortar plasticiser (air-entraining admixture) for sand-cement mortar. It entrains a controlled amount of microscopic air bubbles that lubricate the sand particles, increasing cohesion and workability rather than acting as a polycarboxylate water-reducer.
Where is it used?
Used across Delhi NCR and Pan-India for bricklaying, blockwork, internal and external plastering and rendering, and general masonry mortar where a smooth, cohesive, easy-to-trowel mix is required.
Why use it?
It makes mortar more workable and cohesive, improves bond, increases yield by typically 8% to 18% for the same sand and cement, is chloride-free, and appreciably improves frost resistance of fresh and cured mortar.
How is it applied?
Dosed at 0.100 to 0.200 litres of Cebex 112 per 100 kg cement (or per 100 litres of gauging water), added via the gauging water — never directly to dry sand or cement. Site trials are recommended to confirm the optimum dose.
About Fosroc Cebex 112
Fosroc Cebex 112 is a mortar plasticiser of the air-entraining type, formulated specifically for sand-cement mortar used in masonry, bricklaying and plastering. Based on internationally recognised chemicals and free from calcium chloride and similar salts, it is engineered to make mortar easier to work, more cohesive and more economical, without the corrosion risk associated with chloride-bearing additives. It is important to understand the true mechanism of this product: Cebex 112 is an air-entraining plasticiser, not a polycarboxylate water-reducer or dispersing agent. It works by entraining a controlled quantity of microscopic air bubbles within the mortar. These tiny bubbles act like ball bearings, lubricating the sand particles so the mortar flows and trowels more smoothly while gaining cohesion and bond strength. For contractors and masons across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, this translates into mortar that spreads evenly, holds the line and board, resists slump on the trowel and gives a cleaner finish on brick, block and plaster work. Because the same quantities of sand and cement produce more usable mortar, Cebex 112 typically increases yield by 8% to 18%, improving on-site economy. The entrained air also appreciably increases the frost resistance of both fresh and cured mortar — a genuine durability benefit. Space Arc Engineering supplies Fosroc Cebex 112 as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator. Where a project specification calls for an alternative, comparable mortar plasticisers are available from brands such as Sika and BASF (Master Builders Solutions); however, for Fosroc-specified works and consistent supply we recommend the genuine Fosroc product backed by its India TDS.
The technical insight
The defining characteristic of Cebex 112 is controlled air entrainment, and this is where correct dosage matters most. The official Fosroc India TDS specifies 0.100 to 0.200 litres of Cebex 112 per 100 kg of cement, equivalent to 0.100 to 0.2 litres per 100 litres of gauging water. Site trials are recommended to fix the optimum dose for local sand and cement. Over-dosing an air-entraining plasticiser is counter-productive: excess entrained air can disproportionately reduce mortar strength, so the upper limit must be respected rather than exceeded. The correct method of use is equally important — Cebex 112 must be added through the gauging water and must NOT be added directly to the dry sand/cement mortar, otherwise the air is not properly and uniformly entrained. The product is chloride-free (chloride content nil) and based on internationally recognised chemicals, making it suitable for use against reinforcement and embedded metal. It is compatible with any type of Portland, Super Sulphate, Blast furnace or Pozzolanic cement, giving it broad applicability across the cement types commonly used on Indian sites.
Where it is used
- Bricklaying mortar for masonry walls — smoother, more cohesive bedding mortar
- Blockwork mortar for concrete and AAC block masonry
- Internal and external cement plastering and rendering
- General sand-cement mortar where improved workability and trowelability are needed
- Masonry work requiring chloride-free admixtures near reinforcement or embedded metal
- Mortar where increased yield (typically 8% to 18%) improves on-site economy
- Mortar requiring better frost resistance in fresh and cured states
Key advantages
- Improves workability and trowelability of sand-cement mortar through controlled air entrainment
- Increases cohesion and bond strength of the mortar
- Typically increases mortar yield by 8% to 18% for the same sand and cement, improving economy
- Chloride-free (chloride content nil) and free from calcium chloride and similar salts — safe near reinforcement
- Compatible with any type of Portland, Super Sulphate, Blast furnace or Pozzolanic cement
- Appreciably increases frost resistance of both fresh and cured mortar
- Mixes readily with water in any proportions for easy, consistent batching
- Based on internationally recognised chemicals from a trusted global manufacturer
Limitations & considerations
- Designed for sand-cement mortar / masonry / plastering — it is a mortar plasticiser, not a concrete water-reducer or superplasticiser
- Must NOT be added directly to dry sand/cement mortar; it must be introduced via the gauging water
- Over-dosing beyond the 0.200 litres per 100 kg cement limit can excessively increase entrained air and reduce mortar strength
- Optimum dosage depends on local sand and cement, so site trials are recommended
- As an air-entraining product, mix design and air content should be verified on site rather than assumed
Selection & best practice
Always add Cebex 112 to the gauging water — never to dry sand or cement — and conduct a site trial at the start of works to fix the optimum dose within the 0.100 to 0.200 litres per 100 kg cement range. Mix thoroughly to achieve uniform air entrainment, and keep the dose at or below the upper limit to protect mortar strength while gaining workability, cohesion and yield.
