Fosroc Nitoflor FC130
A low-odour, water-based two-part epoxy coating that seals concrete floors and walls into a dust-proof, chemically resistant, easy-clean surface for light industrial, warehouse and commercial spaces.
What is it?
A two-component, water-dispersed epoxy resin coating applied in two thin coats to give roughly 100 microns of dry film. It cures to a hard, semi-matt seal on concrete and cementitious substrates.
Where is it used?
Warehouses, garages, light engineering units, food-processing areas, kitchens, showrooms and other floors or walls carrying pedestrian and light vehicular traffic.
Why use it?
It converts a dusting, porous slab into a sealed, hygienic surface that resists most oils and industrial chemicals, wipes clean easily and cures with very little odour.
How is it applied?
Brush, lambswool roller or airless spray onto a sound, dry, well-prepared substrate, in two coats with a 6-24 hour window between them.
About Fosroc Nitoflor FC130
Nitoflor FC130 is Fosroc’s economical, water-based epoxy floor and wall coating, built for the large everyday areas of a plant or building that see foot traffic and the occasional trolley or light vehicle rather than punishing forklift loads. It arrives as a two-component, pre-weighed pack: a pigmented base and a hardener that are stirred separately, then combined and mixed for at least three minutes before use. Because the system is water-dispersed rather than solvent-borne, it carries a low VOC content and a mild odour, which makes it far more comfortable to lay in occupied buildings, kitchens and enclosed stores where solvent fumes would be a problem.
Applied in two coats to an approximate total dry film thickness of 100 microns, the cured film forms a resilient, semi-matt seal over concrete and other sound substrates. That seal is what stops a bare slab from dusting, blocks the ingress of spilt oils and liquids, and gives cleaners a smooth, impervious surface they can scrub or hot-wash. It is offered in Silver Grey, Mid Grey and a Clear grade, so it works equally well as a decorative colour finish or as a transparent sealer over an existing floor. For Space Arc’s clients across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, FC130 is the sensible specification wherever the brief is a clean, hard-wearing, budget-conscious coating rather than a heavy-duty screed.
The technical insight
The performance comes from the epoxy chemistry, but the water-dispersed carrier is what shapes how you use it. The base and hardener cross-link into a tough, chemically stable film; the water is simply the vehicle that keeps the mixed product low in odour and easy to spread thinly. That has two practical consequences on site. First, the water must be allowed to evaporate as the resin cures, so good ventilation and air movement are essential and ‘ponding’ of the wet coat must be avoided, since trapped water prevents a complete cure. Second, pot life behaves differently from a solvent system: once mixed, the material should be decanted into flat, open paint trays rather than left in the mixing can, because holding it in bulk drives an exothermic reaction that shortens the two-hour pot life at 20 degrees C. Being water-based, an over-age mix can look usable but will stay tacky and never harden, so discipline on pot life and clean, dry, fine-textured substrate preparation is where success or failure is actually decided.
Where it is used
- Sealing and dust-proofing bare concrete floors in warehouses and stores
- Light engineering and assembly workshops with pedestrian and light vehicular traffic
- Garage, service-bay and parking floors carrying occasional light wheeled traffic
- Food-processing areas and commercial kitchens needing a hygienic, wipe-clean floor
- Retail showrooms, display areas and back-of-house spaces where a clean colour finish matters
- Coating and colour-sealing walls in the same working areas as the floor
- Clear over-sealing of existing sound epoxy or cementitious floors to refresh them
- Overcoating Fosroc Cemtop XD to add an easily cleaned, chemically resistant top surface
Key advantages
- Water-based and low-odour, so it can be laid in occupied and enclosed spaces with minimal disruption
- Economical and fast to apply by brush, roller or airless spray compared with self-levelling systems
- Turns a dusting slab into a sealed, hygienic, easily cleaned surface that tolerates hot-water washing up to 50 degrees C
- Good resistance to a wide range of industrial oils, liquids and chemicals
- Available in Silver Grey, Mid Grey and Clear, covering both decorative and transparent-sealer roles
- Complies with EN 1504-2 (surface protection, method 6.1) and BS 476 Part 7 Class 1 spread of flame
- Can be over-broadcast with quartz sand or anti-slip grains for foot-traffic slip resistance
- Cleans off tools with plain water immediately after use, keeping site logistics simple
Limitations & considerations
- A thin coating at around 100 microns total, so it is not suited to heavy forklift, pallet-truck or car-park lane traffic without a higher-build alternative
- Being thin, it telegraphs surface irregularities, so the substrate must be fine-textured and well prepared
- Cannot be applied over substrates suffering rising damp or reading above 80% RH; needs a dry slab per BS 8203
- Do not apply below 10 degrees C or where ambient relative humidity exceeds 85%, and adequate ventilation is essential for cure
- Semi-matt finish may scuff more than a gloss, and slip resistance needs an added aggregate for wet or foot-traffic zones
- Low odour is not a guarantee of non-tainting, so separate tests are advised where foodstuff tainting is possible
Selection & best practice
Start with the substrate: it must be sound, clean, dry and fine-textured. On new concrete allow adequate curing (traditionally 28 days; newer grades permit a shorter age) and confirm a hygrometer reading not exceeding 80% RH to BS 8203 Appendix A. Remove laitance by light grit-blasting or diamond grinding wherever possible, and only fall back to acid etching with thorough neutralising and rinsing where mechanical prep is not feasible; vacuum off all dust. Stir each component, combine base into hardener, and mix for at least three minutes with a slow-speed paddle, then decant immediately into flat trays to protect pot life. Lay the first coat evenly without ponding, back-rolling any sprayed work, and apply the second once the first has initially dried (typically 6-24 hours depending on conditions). Keep the space above 10 degrees C, below 85% RH, and well ventilated so the water can evaporate. Allow 24 hours before foot traffic and a full seven days before heavy use or chemical exposure, and use material from a single batch for the topcoat to keep colour uniform.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor FC130
Nitoflor FC130 is the entry point of Fosroc’s Nitoflor floor-coating family: the economical, water-based, light-duty option for large clean-and-seal jobs. Where the brief steps up to real vehicular or forklift loading, move to a higher-build system such as Fosroc Nitoflor SL (a 2 mm self-levelling epoxy topping) which the FC130 data sheet itself names for heavy-traffic areas. Prepare the slab with Fosroc’s surface-treatment range, and where a decorative solvent-free wall or floor finish or a food-grade grade is called for, Fosroc’s wider Nitoflor and Nitocote coatings cover those needs. Across our other brands, comparable light-duty water-based epoxy floor coatings are available from MC-Bauchemie and Sika where a client has standardised on a particular manufacturer, and Space Arc can advise on the closest equivalent in each system.
