Crystalline Waterproofing Slurry for Concrete Water Tanks, Reservoirs and Below-Grade Structures
Authorized Project Distributor — Dr. Fixit by Pidilite | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad
Product Overview
Dr. Fixit Crystalline is a cementitious crystalline waterproofing compound from Pidilite Industries that provides a fundamentally different approach to concrete waterproofing compared to membrane or coating systems. When applied as a slurry coat to a concrete surface that has been pre-wetted with water, the active chemicals in Dr. Fixit Crystalline penetrate deep into the concrete by capillary action, carried by the water in the concrete pore structure. Once inside the concrete matrix, these chemicals react with water and the calcium aluminate and calcium silicate compounds present in the cement paste to form complex, insoluble calcium silicate hydrate crystals that grow in the pore spaces and hairline cracks of the concrete, permanently blocking the water flow paths through the concrete structure. This crystalline growth mechanism gives Dr. Fixit Crystalline its most important performance characteristic: self-sealing capability. If a hairline crack develops in the waterproofed concrete at a later date (due to minor settlement, thermal movement, or structural loading), the presence of un-reacted crystalline chemicals stored in the concrete pores near the crack allows new crystal growth to begin at the crack interface, self-sealing the new crack as long as water is present to initiate the reaction. This self-healing characteristic means that a concrete structure waterproofed with Dr. Fixit Crystalline has an ongoing self-repair mechanism for minor cracking — unlike membrane systems that would develop a leak at any new crack through the membrane. Dr. Fixit Crystalline is particularly suited to concrete water-retaining structures (overhead tanks, underground sumps, swimming pools, irrigation structures) where a permanent, maintenance-free waterproofing solution integrated into the concrete itself is preferred over a surface coating that may require periodic inspection and repair. Space Arc Engineering supplies Dr. Fixit Crystalline for water infrastructure, building waterproofing, and infrastructure projects across Delhi NCR, Ghaziabad, and Uttar Pradesh.
Applications
- Overhead water tank concrete — positive face crystalline waterproofing of water-retaining walls
- Underground water sump and cistern — crystalline treatment of inner concrete face
- Swimming pool concrete shell — crystalline waterproofing before or instead of surface coating
- Basement and retaining wall waterproofing — positive or negative side application
- Bridge and flyover concrete abutments and piers — pore-blocking for durability enhancement
- Sewage treatment plant concrete — pore sealing to resist biological and chemical penetration
Key Advantages
- Permanent crystalline waterproofing — becomes part of the concrete, does not delaminate or age
- Self-sealing capability — re-activates to seal new hairline cracks as they develop
- Penetrates into concrete pores — not a surface coating, not affected by surface abrasion
- Suitable for negative and positive water pressure — can be applied from inside against water pressure
- Potable water safe — non-toxic crystalline compounds safe for drinking water tanks
- No primers, membranes, or protection layers required — single-product system

Frequently Asked Questions
How does Dr. Fixit Crystalline differ from Dr. Fixit Pidifin 2K and when should each be used for concrete waterproofing?
Dr. Fixit Crystalline and Dr. Fixit Pidifin 2K are both cementitious waterproofing products but work by fundamentally different mechanisms, making each more suitable for specific applications. Dr. Fixit Crystalline (crystalline type): the active chemicals penetrate into the concrete and react inside the pore structure to grow blocking crystals. The waterproofing is therefore inside the concrete, not on its surface. The key advantages are permanence (the crystals are a permanent part of the cured concrete), self-sealing of new cracks, and resistance to damage by surface abrasion, impact, or UV. The limitation is that crystalline waterproofing requires moisture to re-activate and grow new crystals — it works best in water-retaining structures where the concrete remains moist. In dry conditions or on concrete that dries out, the crystalline re-activation is limited. Crystalline coatings are also not flexible — they do not bridge existing cracks of more than 0.2 to 0.4 mm and are not suitable as a waterproofing for surfaces subject to significant movement or where the existing cracks are wider than hairline. Best use cases for Crystalline: new concrete water tanks, swimming pool shells, underground sumps, basements with high groundwater, bridge and infrastructure concrete durability enhancement. Dr. Fixit Pidifin 2K (flexible cementitious membrane type): forms a flexible polymer-modified coating on the concrete surface. The advantages are flexibility (bridges wider surface cracks up to 0.2 to 0.4 mm), ease of application by brush without special substrate requirements, and compatibility with tiling on top. The limitation is that the waterproofing is a surface coating — it can be damaged by abrasion, impact, or prolonged UV exposure. Best use cases for Pidifin 2K: bathroom waterproofing before tiling, terrace waterproofing, renovation of existing structures where crystalline penetration into dense old concrete is limited, and surfaces requiring tile adhesion over the waterproofing.
