What is it?

A solvent-free, multi-component reactive-resin primer and sealer from MC-Bauchemie, used as the bonding and sealing layer beneath MC-DUR industrial floor coating systems such as MC-DUR 230 and MC-DUR 260.

Where is it used?

Industrial and commercial concrete floors in food-processing units, chemical and metal plants, warehouses, washdown areas and tank interiors where a heavy-duty resin floor is being built up.

Why use it?

It penetrates and seals the concrete so the subsequent coating bonds mechanically instead of blistering or peeling, and its solvent-free chemistry allows use in enclosed areas with limited ventilation.

How is it applied?

Machine or hand mixed to the specified ratio, then roller-applied as a primer (broadcast with quartz sand while wet) or squeegee-and-roller applied as a smooth seal coat, over a sound, dry, laitance-free substrate.

About MC-Bauchemie MC-DUR 200

MC-DUR 200 is not a stand-alone floor finish and it is not a repair mortar. It is the first reactive-resin layer that goes down when a specifier is building one of MC-Bauchemie’s MC-DUR industrial floor systems. Its job is unglamorous but decisive: wet into the open pores of the concrete, kill the surface tension between the slab and the coating, and give the polyurethane or epoxy body coat above it a substrate it can genuinely grip. On a fresh, well-cured slab it works as a penetrating primer; broadcast with oven-dried quartz sand while still wet, it creates the mechanical key that the next coat needs. Poured and spread without the sand broadcast, the same material doubles as a thin sealer that closes porosity ahead of a top layer. Because it is supplied solvent-free, it can be laid inside tanks, cold rooms, food halls and other poorly ventilated spaces where solvent-borne primers are ruled out.

For engineers and applicators in India, the practical value of MC-DUR 200 is reliability at the interface. The most common reason an industrial resin floor fails early is loss of adhesion at the concrete boundary, not wear on the surface. A primer that only sits on top of the slab leaves that weakness in place. MC-DUR 200 is formulated to soak in and anchor, which is why MC-Bauchemie specifies it as the designed companion to systems like MC-DUR 230 and MC-DUR 260 rather than leaving primer choice open. It is a genuinely component-matched product: base, hardener, aggregate and colour are delivered in pre-weighed proportions so the site crew is not left guessing the mix. As authorised distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc supplies MC-DUR 200 as part of the full flooring build-up, not as a loose commodity, so the primer, body coat and sealer stay within one warranted system.

The technical insight

The mechanism that makes MC-DUR 200 work is capillary penetration followed by in-situ cure. Concrete, however well finished, is a porous body: the surface carries fine pores, micro-cracks and a weak laitance skin. A coating placed straight onto that skin bonds only to the laitance, which shears away under load and takes the floor with it. MC-DUR 200 is formulated at a viscosity low enough to be drawn into those pores by capillary action, so once it cures it is mechanically interlocked with the slab rather than merely sitting on it. Curing is a two-part reaction between the base resin and the hardener, meaning the film develops strength chemically and is not dependent on solvent flash-off, which is what allows the solvent-free grade to be used in sealed spaces. When used as a primer, the quartz-sand broadcast is deliberate: the sand grains sit half-embedded in the curing resin, leaving a rough profile that multiplies the contact area for the following coat. When used as a smooth sealer, the same resin instead flows into and closes the pores so that the next layer meets a uniform, non-absorbent face. In both roles the outcome is the same physics, controlled porosity and a bonded interface, which is the foundation every durable resin floor is built on.

Where it is used

  • Priming concrete slabs before MC-DUR 230 and MC-DUR 260 floor coating systems
  • Sealing porous substrates ahead of epoxy or polyurethane body coats
  • Floors in food and beverage processing plants and washdown areas
  • Chemical, pharmaceutical and metal-industry production floors
  • Interior surfaces of tanks and containment bunds
  • Cold rooms and enclosed spaces where solvent-borne primers are unsuitable
  • Warehouses and workshops receiving a heavy-duty resin floor
  • Creating a quartz-broadcast mechanical key on smooth or dense concrete

Key advantages

  • Solvent-free, so it can be applied safely in enclosed and poorly ventilated areas
  • Penetrates and seals the substrate for a genuine mechanical bond, not a surface film
  • Component-matched base, hardener, aggregate and colour supplied in pre-weighed proportions
  • Works in two roles from one product: broadcast primer or smooth seal coat
  • Purpose-designed companion primer for MC-DUR industrial floor systems
  • Suitable for food-contact and washdown environments per its REACH-assessed use
  • Reduces the risk of blistering and delamination on porous or dense concrete
  • Backed in India by MC-Bauchemie’s global flooring know-how and Space Arc’s applicator support

Limitations & considerations

  • It is a primer/sealer, not a wearing surface or decorative finish, and must be over-coated
  • It is not a concrete repair mortar and will not fill spalls, blowholes or structural defects
  • The concrete must be sound, dry and free of laitance, oil and curing compound before priming
  • Short working time of roughly 15 minutes at 20 degrees C means only usable quantities should be mixed at once
  • Application is bounded by substrate temperature and humidity limits, so hot or damp site conditions need control
  • Recoat and cure timings shift with temperature, and over-running them affects intercoat adhesion

Selection & best practice

Start by preparing the concrete properly, this is where most floor failures are decided. Mechanically abrade or shot-blast the slab to remove laitance and expose a sound, open surface, then make sure it is dry and free of oil, grease and curing membranes. Check that the substrate temperature sits within the product’s working range and stays at least 3 K above the dew point so condensation does not form during cure. Mix the pre-proportioned components thoroughly and only in quantities the crew can lay within the short working time. For a primer coat, roller-apply evenly and broadcast oven-dried quartz sand (0.5 to 1.2 mm) into the wet film to build the mechanical key; for a seal coat, pour and spread with a hard rubber squeegee, then back-roll with a short-pile lambskin roller for a uniform closed face. Respect the recoat window before applying the MC-DUR body coat, coating too early or too late both weaken the interface. Always treat MC-DUR 200 as one layer of a complete MC-Bauchemie system and follow the current project-specific technical data sheet for exact figures.

Keys dense or trowel-finished concrete before heavy-duty coatings so high-traffic warehouse floors resist blistering under forklift and pallet loads.

Metal & Engineering Workshops

Seals porous shop-floor concrete and provides a mechanical key for abrasion-resistant coatings in machining and fabrication areas.

Tanks & Containment Structures

Used inside tanks and containment areas where a solvent-free primer is essential and a fully bonded lining system is required.

Frequently asked questions

Is MC-DUR 200 a concrete repair mortar?
No. It is a reactive-resin primer and sealer for floor coating systems. It seals and bonds to concrete but does not fill spalls, blowholes or structural defects, use a dedicated repair mortar for that and then prime over it.
Can MC-DUR 200 be used as a finished floor on its own?
No. It is designed as the primer or seal layer beneath an MC-DUR body coat such as MC-DUR 230 or MC-DUR 260. It must be over-coated and is not a stand-alone wearing surface.
Why is it supplied as multiple components?
The base, hardener, aggregate and colour are delivered in matched, pre-weighed proportions so the site crew mixes the correct ratio every time, removing the guesswork that causes under-cured or weak primer coats.
Can it be applied in enclosed or food-industry areas?
Yes. It is solvent-free, which is why it is suited to tanks, cold rooms and food-processing spaces where solvent-borne primers are unsuitable, subject to its REACH-assessed conditions of use.
How is it used as a primer versus a sealer?
As a primer it is rolled on and broadcast with quartz sand while wet to build a mechanical key. As a sealer it is poured, spread with a squeegee and back-rolled to a smooth, closed surface without the sand broadcast.
Does Space Arc supply MC-DUR 200 across India?
Yes. Space Arc is an authorised distributor and applicator for MC-Bauchemie in Delhi NCR and Pan-India, and supplies MC-DUR 200 as part of a complete, system-matched flooring build-up rather than as a loose item.

How we position MC-Bauchemie MC-DUR 200

MC-DUR 200 sits at the base of MC-Bauchemie’s MC-DUR flooring family and should always be specified with its designed body coats, MC-DUR 230 or MC-DUR 260, for a single warranted system. For projects needing a finished wearing surface, pair it with the appropriate MC-DUR self-levelling or roller coating. Space Arc also carries equivalent floor primers from our other principals, so where a project is standardised on another brand’s flooring system we can match the primer to the topping rather than mixing families. For structural concrete defects that must be made good before priming, this is a flooring product and should be preceded by a proper repair mortar, not confused with one.

Preferred brand · Fosroc equivalent

Fosroc Nitoprime 25 — A specifier standardised on a Fosroc floor build-up (Nitoflor toppings or Nitocote coatings) may prefer Nitoprime 25 as the matching epoxy primer, and it also tolerates slightly damp concrete where a solvent-free grade is not mandatory.
