What is it?

A two-component, 100% solids epoxy resin coating from MC-Bauchemie’s MC-DUR range, CFTRI-certified food grade so the cured film can safely hold drinking water or food.

Where is it used?

Drinking-water tanks, reservoirs and sumps, and vessels handling food, dairy, brewery or food-processing materials, coated over prepared concrete or mild steel across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.

Why use it?

It turns porous concrete or bare steel into a smooth, non-toxic lining that will not taint stored water or food, while resisting abrasion, chemicals and washdown.

How is it applied?

Resin and hardener are mixed 85:15 by weight, then brushed or rollered over MC-DUR EPW Primer in two crossed coats to the specified minimum wet-film thickness.

About MC-Bauchemie MC-DUR EPW

MC-DUR EPW is a two-component, solvent-free epoxy resin coating from MC-Bauchemie’s MC-DUR programme, built for structures that hold potable water or food. Where a general industrial epoxy is chosen for abrasion resistance and cost, MC-DUR EPW is chosen for one reason: its cured film is certified food grade by CFTRI (Central Food Technological Research Institute), so it can legitimately line a drinking-water tank, an RCC sump, or a brewery, dairy or meat-processing vessel without tainting what it holds. It is a Duromer coating — resin and hardener cross-link into a dense film — giving genuine adhesion to concrete and steel, plus the strength the data sheet documents (tensile strength 20-25 MPa to ASTM D638).

An ordinary industrial epoxy is never certified for potable-water contact, and specifying the wrong grade on a drinking-water tank is a compliance failure, not a minor substitution. Space Arc supplies and applies MC-DUR EPW as an authorised MC-Bauchemie distributor across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, confirming current coverage, pot life and cure figures against the live datasheet for each project batch.

The technical insight

The performance rests on epoxy cross-linking chemistry plus a food-grade formulation. An amine hardener reacts with the resin base at a fixed 85:15 ratio, forming a dense polymer network rather than a solvent-evaporation film. Because the system is 100% solids (ASTM D2697), there is no solvent to flash off and negligible shrinkage — important where the lining must stay pinhole-free under standing water pressure. The two-coat, cross-hatched method — first coat one way, second at right angles once dry — statistically closes any holidays a single pass would leave, and a pinhole in a potable-water lining is a defect, not a cosmetic flaw. The formulation is also what earns CFTRI certification: the cured system is tested and cleared as non-toxic for drinking water and food contact, a stricter bar than plain chemical resistance.

Where it is used

  • Structural lining and waterproof coating for overhead and underground potable (drinking) water tanks
  • Protective, non-tainting lining for tanks and vessels holding food and food-processing materials
  • Internal coating of RCC sumps, clear-water reservoirs and water-treatment structures
  • Corrosion-resistant coating on mild-steel tanks and pipework in water and food-contact duty
  • Lining for breweries, dairies and meat- and food-processing plant vessels
  • Re-lining ageing potable-water and food-storage tanks after removing failed coatings
  • Protective coating on concrete surfaces needing a smooth, easy-to-clean finish
  • Silo and storage-vessel linings where a hygienic, CFTRI-certified surface is specified

Key advantages

  • CFTRI food-grade certified — cleared for potable water and food contact, not just chemically resistant
  • 100% solids / solvent-free (ASTM D2697) — no solvent odour or taint risk inside a closed tank
  • Good chemical and high abrasion resistance (tensile strength 20-25 MPa, ASTM D638)
  • Bonds well to both concrete and steel, so one system lines mixed-substrate tanks
  • Cures to a smooth, seamless, easy-to-clean film
  • Available in the project’s required shade, aiding visual inspection of the lining
  • Fast build — touch-dry in 2 hours, full dry in 24 hours (ASTM D1640)
  • Supplied and applied by Space Arc as an authorised MC-Bauchemie distributor Pan-India

Limitations & considerations

  • Must be applied over MC-DUR EPW Primer — not specified as a standalone, primerless coating
  • Short pot life (20-30 minutes at 27°C) once mixed, so batch size must match what the gang can lay
  • Narrow window: work stops below +10°C, and also if surface temperature exceeds 35°C
  • Waterproofing depends on the full two-coat, cross-directional build — shortcuts compromise it
  • Steel needs demanding prep (SA 2½ blast-cleaning to DIN 55928 part 4); rust converters will not do
  • It is a coating, not a repair material — honeycombs and unsound concrete need a Nafuquick-range mortar first

Selection & best practice

Treat substrate preparation as the deciding factor. Concrete must be fully cured, laitance-free and free of oil or old coatings, with honeycombs filled first using a Nafuquick-range mortar; steel must be blast-cleaned to SA 2½ per DIN 55928 part 4. Prime with MC-DUR EPW Primer first. Mix resin and hardener strictly at 85:15 by weight with a slow-speed paddle mixer (max. 300 rpm) for at least three minutes, avoiding air entrainment. Apply by brush or roller in two crossed coats at a minimum 100-micron wet film each. Watch temperature throughout: stop below +10°C or if the surface exceeds 35°C. Clean tools with MC-Thinner EP or MC-Clean EP, never water, and confirm current figures against the live datasheet for your batch.

Frequently asked questions

Is MC-DUR EPW safe for drinking water once cured?
Yes — it is CFTRI food-grade certified. Allow the full cure time and flush the tank before service.
Does it need a separate primer?
Yes, MC-DUR EPW Primer. Skipping it takes the job outside the tested system.
How many coats does it need, and why?
Two, in crossed directions at 100 microns wet film each — the cross-hatch build closes pinholes.
What is the working time once mixed?
Pot life is 20-30 minutes at 27°C, so mix only what the gang can apply within that window.
Can it be applied to mild steel as well as concrete?
Yes, provided the steel is blast-cleaned to SA 2½ per DIN 55928 part 4.
How does it differ from a standard industrial epoxy like MC-DUR 300?
MC-DUR 300 has no potable-water certification. MC-DUR EPW is the CFTRI food-grade grade for tanks holding drinking water or food.

How we position MC-Bauchemie MC-DUR EPW

MC-DUR EPW sits in the food-grade, potable-water corner of MC-Bauchemie’s protective-coatings range, alongside MC-DUR EPW Primer (its mandatory partner) and general-purpose siblings such as MC-DUR 300 and MC-Floor EP, which resist chemicals but carry no drinking-water certification. Where the substrate needs rebuilding first, pair it with a Nafuquick-range repair mortar rather than expecting the coating to fill defects. Specifiers needing IS 9833 rather than CFTRI certification can consider Fosroc’s Nitocote EP405, the equivalent food-grade epoxy tank lining.

Preferred brand · Fosroc equivalent

Fosroc Nitocote EP405 — A specifier standardised on Fosroc, or one whose consultant specifically calls for IS 9833 certification rather than CFTRI food-grade approval, may prefer Nitocote EP405 as the direct equivalent for potable-water and food-contact tank linings.
