Fosroc Auracast 310
High-performance, low-viscosity PCE superplasticiser engineered for the precast concrete industry, high early strength with controlled workability retention.
What is it?
A high-range water-reducing concrete admixture based on the latest generation of low-viscosity polycarboxylate ether (PCE) polymers, formulated specifically for the precast concrete industry.
Where is it used?
Precast and prestressed concrete plants producing beams, columns, pipes, piles, panels, pavers, sleepers and architectural elements, especially where high early strength is needed to speed up mould turnaround.
Why use it?
It cuts the water-cement ratio sharply at low dosage, raises early and ultimate compressive strength, improves surface finish and durability, and works reliably with fly ash, GGBFS and microsilica blends without sacrificing flow.
How is it applied?
Dosed into the mixing water or added to the wet mix during batching at a typical rate of around 0.5 to 1.5 litres per 100 kg of cementitious material; never added to dry cement. Trial mixes establish the optimum dose.
About Fosroc Auracast 310
Fosroc Auracast 310 is a high-performance superplasticiser built around a unique blend of new-generation polycarboxylate ether (PCE) polymers. Unlike older naphthalene- or melamine-based superplasticisers that disperse cement mainly by electrostatic repulsion, the PCE molecules in Auracast 310 carry long side chains that wrap around cement grains and hold them apart by steric hindrance as well. The practical result is that very little water is needed to achieve a given flow, so the mix can run at a markedly lower water-cement ratio while staying placeable.
The product is deliberately positioned for the precast sector rather than general ready-mix work. Precast yards live or die by mould turnaround, the faster an element reaches demoulding strength, the more castings each mould produces per day. Auracast 310 is tuned to deliver high early-age compressive strength with moderate, controlled workability retention, which suits the short open times of factory production lines. Its low viscosity is a deliberate feature: thin, free-flowing admixture meters accurately through automated batching equipment and helps semi-dry and earth-moist precast mixes consolidate cleanly with less vibration.
For a Delhi NCR or Pan-India precast manufacturer, Auracast 310 sits in the Fosroc Auracast precast family alongside Auracast 270M, 300 and 50, each tuned for a slightly different balance of early strength, retention and finish. It is chloride-free, compatible with all common Indian cements (OPC, PPC, PSC) and with supplementary cementitious materials such as fly ash, GGBFS and microsilica, making it a sound choice for durable, low-permeability precast concrete.
The technical insight
The defining technical lever of Auracast 310 is the relationship between dispersion efficiency and viscosity. A high-solids PCE will reduce water demand aggressively, but if the admixture itself is viscous it can make stiff precast mixes sticky and hard to compact. Fosroc formulates Auracast 310 as a low-viscosity PCE precisely so that a precast mix can be driven to a low water-cement ratio (often in the 0.30 to 0.38 range) without becoming gummy or trapping air. Lower w/c directly translates into a denser cement matrix, fewer capillary pores, higher early strength for early demoulding, and better resistance to chloride ingress and carbonation over the structure’s life. Because PCE chemistry continues to release dispersing capacity as mixing proceeds, the product also helps offset the rapid slump loss that high-cement, low-water precast mixes are prone to. As with all PCEs, performance is dosage-sensitive and cement-specific: small dose changes produce large workability swings, and compatibility with the specific cement and SCM combination must be confirmed by site trial mixes before bulk use.
Where it is used
- High early strength precast concrete elements for fast mould cycling and early demoulding
- Prestressed and pretensioned units such as railway sleepers, piles, hollow-core slabs and bridge girders
- Architectural and structural precast with demanding off-form surface finishes
- Low water-cement ratio, high-strength and high-durability concrete (M40 and above)
- Concrete incorporating fly ash, GGBFS or microsilica cement replacements
- Semi-dry and earth-moist precast mixes batched through automated plant
- Water-retaining and aggressive-exposure precast where low permeability is required
Key advantages
- Strong water reduction at low dosage, enabling water-cement ratios as low as 0.30 to 0.38
- High early-age compressive strength that shortens demoulding time and lifts mould productivity
- Low viscosity for accurate metering through automated batching and easier compaction of stiff mixes
- Higher ultimate strength and improved durability without raising cement content
- Chloride-free, so safe for reinforced and prestressed concrete
- Fully compatible with OPC, PPC, PSC and with fly ash, GGBFS and microsilica blends
- Reduced permeability, improved carbonation resistance and lower shrinkage and creep
- Better, more consistent surface finishes with less remedial patching
Limitations & considerations
- Engineered for precast / factory production; for general ready-mix or site concrete a Fosroc Auramix or Conplast SP grade is usually more appropriate
- Strongly dosage-sensitive, slight overdosing of a PCE can cause segregation, bleeding or retardation, so trial mixes are essential
- Workability retention is moderate by design and shorter than retention-focused grades; not ideal for long-haul transit
- PCE performance varies with cement and SCM source; compatibility must be verified for each combination
- Should not be mixed directly with other admixtures unless compatibility is confirmed by Fosroc
- Liquid admixture, protect from frost and store within the recommended temperature range; do not use if frozen and not recovered per instructions
- Not a substitute for good mix design, curing or quality control
Selection & best practice
Always establish the optimum dosage by laboratory and plant trial mixes using the actual cement, SCMs and aggregates before bulk production, then verify early and 28-day strengths and finish. Add Auracast 310 to the gauging water or to the wetted mix during batching, never onto dry cement, and dispense it with the rest of the mixing water rather than as a late slug. Keep the dose within the recommended band and adjust the free water down to capture the strength and durability benefit instead of just gaining slump. Account for any moisture the admixture contributes when calculating net water. Store drums upright, sealed, under cover and protected from frost and direct sun, and use within shelf life. For prestressed work confirm the chloride-free status against your specification. How we position Fosroc Auracast 310
Auracast 310 belongs to Fosroc’s precast-focused Auracast PCE family and is best understood next to its siblings: Auracast 270M and Auracast 300 cover similar precast duties with slightly different early-strength, retention and finish balances, while Auracast 50 targets very high early strength for fast cycling. For general ready-mix and site concrete rather than precast, the right Fosroc options are usually the Auramix range (such as Auramix 300 Plus or 400) or the Conplast SP superplasticiser grades, not Auracast. Against the wider Indian market, the closest competitors are PCE precast superplasticisers from Sika (Sika ViscoCrete precast grades), MBS / Master Builders Solutions (MasterGlenium PCE range), and the broader admixture lines from STP and others; Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) is strong in waterproofing and repair but less specialised in high-end precast superplasticisers. Auracast 310 earns its place where a precaster wants low-viscosity PCE chemistry for accurate batching, aggressive water reduction and dependable early strength backed by Fosroc’s technical support. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc Engineering can help match the exact Auracast grade to your mix design and production targets and validate it through trial mixes.
