Auracast 405
Self-Compacting Concrete Mix Optimiser for Complex Formwork Pours
Authorized Project Distributor — Fosroc India | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad
Product Overview
Auracast 405 is a polycarboxylate ether-based admixture system developed for producing self-compacting concrete (SCC) in architectural and structural applications where conventional vibrated concrete is difficult or impossible to compact properly. SCC produced with Auracast 405 has sufficient flow to fill complex formwork geometries and pass through congested reinforcement without vibration, while its viscosity modifying agent (VMA) prevents segregation and bleeding that would otherwise occur in such a fluid mix. Self-compacting concrete eliminates the principal cause of honeycombing and voids in concrete — inadequate compaction due to difficult access or improper vibration technique. For heavily reinforced columns, dense structural walls, pre-cast elements with complex profiles, and architectural concrete where the visual quality of the surface is critical, Auracast 405 SCC delivers a step change in concrete quality compared to conventional vibrated concrete. The system consists of a high-range PCE superplasticiser combined with a VMA in the correct proportions, and requires careful mix design trial and validation before site use. Space Arc Engineering distributes Auracast 405 for high-specification structural concrete projects across Delhi NCR, Ghaziabad, and Northern India.
Applications
- Heavily reinforced column concrete where vibration access is limited
- Dense wall concrete for uniform compaction without vibration
- Architectural exposed concrete elements where surface quality is critical
- Precast concrete production requiring complex shape filling without voids
- Foundation concrete in confined spaces where vibration is impractical
- High-rise building core wall concrete requiring SCC for productivity
Key Advantages
- Self-compacting — eliminates vibration and honeycombing risk
- PCE + VMA system provides controlled flow without segregation
- Improves concrete quality in heavily reinforced elements
- Suitable for complex formwork geometry that cannot be reached by vibrator
- Mix design flexibility for different aggregate types and cement combinations
- Enables high productivity concrete placing in tall walls and columns

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Auracast 405 SCC require a different mix design from conventional concrete?
Yes. SCC is not simply conventional concrete with more superplasticiser. It requires a carefully designed mix with a higher paste content, controlled aggregate grading, reduced coarse aggregate content, and the correct balance of Auracast 405 PCE and VMA components. Trial mixes must be carried out to validate the fresh properties (slump flow, T500 time, J-ring, V-funnel) and hardened properties (compressive strength, durability) before site production begins. Space Arc Engineering can provide guidance on SCC mix design for specific projects.
Is SCC with Auracast 405 more expensive than conventional concrete?
SCC typically has a higher material cost than conventional vibrated concrete of the same strength grade, due to higher cement content, PCE admixture, and VMA. However, the total project cost comparison must include the savings from: elimination of vibration labour and equipment, faster placing rates, improved surface finish (reduced defect repair), and higher concrete quality. For complex elements or difficult placements, SCC often delivers net cost savings despite the higher material cost.
What quality control tests are needed for Auracast 405 SCC?
SCC production requires more rigorous fresh concrete quality control than conventional concrete. Key tests for each batch include: slump flow (target 600 to 750 mm), T500 flow time, J-ring step height (passing ability), V-funnel time (viscosity), and visual stability index. If any test fails, the batch should not be placed. Experienced ready mix plant operators familiar with SCC production requirements are essential. Contact Space Arc Engineering for guidance on SCC quality control procedures.
