High-Early-Strength Non-Shrink Cementitious Grout for Fast-Track Grouting

Authorized Project Distributor — Fosroc India | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad

Product Overview

Conbextra HES is a high-early-strength, non-shrink, cementitious precision grout from Fosroc designed for base plate and equipment grouting applications where the standard 24 to 48 hours to loading with Conbextra GP2 or BB72IN is too slow for the project construction programme. In fast-track industrial construction, equipment installation, and infrastructure commissioning, there is often pressure to tighten the time between grouting a base plate and applying the design load — for example, when a production schedule requires machinery to be operational within 12 hours of grouting, when a bridge bearing plate must be loaded within hours by the advancing girder erection, or when an emergency repair to a machine plinth must be completed over a planned maintenance shutdown of limited duration. Conbextra HES uses a combination of rapid-hardening cement chemistry and optimised admixture technology to achieve the compressive strength needed for loading within 2 to 4 hours rather than 24 to 48 hours — typically achieving 20 to 30 MPa within 4 hours and above 40 MPa at 24 hours in ambient temperatures of 15 to 25 degrees C. The non-shrink property is maintained by the same expanding admixture approach as in standard Conbextra GP2, ensuring full contact between the base plate and the foundation at all times. Conbextra HES is supplied as a pre-bagged single-component powder requiring only the addition of clean water — an important advantage in fast-track applications where there is no time for complex on-site mixing. Space Arc Engineering distributes Conbextra HES for industrial equipment installation, bridge bearing grouting, and fast-track infrastructure projects across Delhi NCR and Northern India.

Applications

  • Fast-track machinery and equipment base plate grouting for early loading
  • Bridge bearing plate grouting with rapid loading by advancing girder construction
  • Emergency repair grouting of machine plinths in production facilities
  • Base plate grouting in industrial projects with tight commissioning schedules
  • Rapid grouting of anchor bolts where structural loading must begin quickly
  • Fast return to service grouting of structural column base plates

Key Advantages

  • High early strength (20–30 MPa in 4 hours) for early loading
  • Non-shrink — maintains full contact pressure between base plate and foundation
  • Single-component — simple water addition for consistent fast-site mixing
  • Faster commissioning — reduces time from grouting to equipment startup
  • Suitable for emergency maintenance grouting with limited downtime
  • Part of the Fosroc Conbextra precision grouting system range

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Conbextra HES be used as a standard substitute for Conbextra GP2 in all base plate grouting applications?

Conbextra HES can be used wherever Conbextra GP2 is specified, and provides the added benefit of faster early strength development. However, Conbextra HES is typically more expensive than Conbextra GP2 due to its rapid-hardening cement chemistry. For applications where early loading is not a constraint and the standard 24-hour strength development of Conbextra GP2 is adequate, using Conbextra GP2 is more economical. Conbextra HES should be specified when the construction programme, equipment commissioning schedule, or maintenance window specifically requires the ability to load the base plate within 2 to 6 hours of grouting. It is a premium product for schedule-constrained projects, not a routine replacement for GP2.

Does Conbextra HES work well in cold weather (below 15 deg C)?

The high early strength of Conbextra HES depends on the rapid hydration of its cement chemistry, which is temperature-sensitive. At temperatures below 15 degrees C, the rate of hydration slows and the early strength development at 4 hours may be significantly less than the typical value at 20 degrees C. In North Indian winter conditions (December to February), Conbextra HES may not achieve the target loading strength within 4 hours without additional thermal management. Warming the mixing water (to 30 to 40 degrees C), warming the aggregate, and insulating the grouted base plate with thermal blankets to maintain the grout temperature above 15 degrees C during curing can help maintain rapid strength gain. Never heat the components above 40 degrees C as this can cause flash setting.

What should be done if Conbextra HES starts to stiffen before the base plate has been fully grouted?

Conbextra HES has a shorter pot life than standard Conbextra GP2 due to its rapid-hardening chemistry — typically 15 to 25 minutes at 20 degrees C from the completion of mixing. If the grout starts to stiffen before all the grouting is complete, do not add water to re-temper it — adding water after initial stiffening has begun will not restore workability and will significantly weaken the final grout. Partially set grout that has been re-tempered with water should be discarded. The lesson is to mix only the volume that can be placed within the pot life, and to have the formwork, grout inlets, and vents all in place and ready before mixing begins. If the base plate area is very large, grouting in multiple consecutive batches may be necessary.
