What is it?

A solvent-based curing compound made from a processed blend of chlorinated rubber and modifying agents dissolved in xylene. It dries to a transparent, light honey-coloured film that cures, seals and hardens the surface of new concrete.

Where is it used?

Freshly laid industrial concrete floors, warehouse and factory slabs, and vertical concrete faces immediately after formwork stripping, where membrane curing plus surface hardening and chemical resistance are needed.

Why use it?

It retains over 90% of the mix water so cement hydrates fully, raising surface strength and dusting resistance, while removing the labour and water of ponding, wet hessian or polythene curing.

How is it applied?

Spray-applied in a single even coat over freshly finished concrete as soon as bleed water disappears, at 5 m2 per litre to build a dry film of at least 35 microns.

About Fosroc Concure CR

Fosroc Concure CR is a solvent-based chlorinated rubber curing compound engineered for industrial concrete floors. It is a processed blend of chlorinated rubber and modifying agents carried in xylene, producing a stable, transparent, quick-drying liquid that is sprayed onto freshly laid concrete. As the solvent flashes off, it leaves a continuous film that seals the surface and dramatically slows the loss of mix water through evaporation. Proper curing in the first days after placement is what allows cement to hydrate fully and develop its design strength, and in the Indian climate — where summer temperatures across Delhi NCR, Rajasthan and the plains routinely cross 40 degrees C with low humidity and high wind — uncured slabs lose water far too quickly, leading to plastic shrinkage cracking, soft dusty surfaces and reduced abrasion resistance. Concure CR addresses this by forming a membrane that holds in moisture, while the chlorinated rubber chemistry adds a secondary benefit unusual in basic curing membranes: it hardens the wearing surface and improves resistance to chemicals, oils, grease and staining. The result is a floor that is not only cured but also tougher and easier to keep clean. Because it is a one-coat spray application that needs no water, hessian, sand or polythene, it removes a major site labour burden and is well suited to large warehouse and factory pours where conventional wet curing is impractical. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor serving Delhi NCR and Pan-India, supplies Concure CR for industrial flooring, godown and logistics-park slabs, and structural concrete that benefits from combined curing and surface protection. The product is documented in Fosroc/Parchem technical data sheets and tested to Australian Standard AS3799 as a Class C, Type 1 curing compound.

The technical insight

The performance claim that matters most is water retention efficiency, and the AS3799 test data is specific: Concure CR achieves 94% water retention at the recommended 5 m2/litre coverage (Boral test certificate 648/20), comfortably exceeding the >90% threshold. That efficiency depends on building a continuous film of at least 35 microns dry film thickness, which is why coverage must be controlled — spreading thinner than 5 m2/litre starves the film and the membrane underperforms. With a non-volatile (solids) content of only about 18-19% and a VOC content of 760 g/litre, the bulk of the applied liquid is xylene solvent that evaporates; the chlorinated rubber resin is what remains as the functional membrane. This high-solvent, low-solids profile is the source of both its strengths (rapid film formation, quick three-hour drying, deep surface sealing) and its constraints (high VOC, flammability, a strong solvent odour during application that disappears once dry). The chlorinated rubber binder is what differentiates Concure CR from simple wax-emulsion curing compounds: it does not merely seal moisture in, it bonds into the surface to harden it and resist a defined list of chemicals. Critically, the same chemistry yellows under prolonged UV from direct sunlight, so its ideal home is an internal floor that will see service traffic, not an exposed external slab judged on appearance.

Where it is used

  • Curing freshly laid industrial concrete floors in factories, warehouses and logistics parks
  • Surface hardening and dust-proofing of new concrete floor slabs to reduce powdering under traffic
  • Curing vertical concrete faces, columns and walls immediately after formwork stripping
  • Improving chemical, oil and grease resistance of concrete in plant and process areas
  • Reducing surface dusting and improving cleanability of existing concrete floors
  • Sealing concrete substrates ahead of approved resilient flooring or paint, after full cure and a trial area

Key advantages

  • High water retention (94% at 5 m2/litre to AS3799), so cement hydrates fully and gains strength
  • Combines curing with surface hardening, increasing strength and dusting resistance in one step
  • Single-coat spray application; no water, damp hessian, sand or polythene required
  • Rapid film formation and roughly 3-hour drying speeds up the construction programme
  • Improves resistance to chemicals, oils, grease and staining, and aids cleaning and maintenance
  • Transparent, light honey film leaves the floor sealed and ready for service traffic
  • Tested and certified to a recognised standard (AS3799 Class C, Type 1)
  • Long 5-year shelf life in sealed drums simplifies stocking and project scheduling

Limitations & considerations

  • Solvent-based with high VOC (760 g/litre) and xylene carrier — flammable, needs ventilation and fire precautions, and is restricted on low-VOC/green-building projects
  • Yellows under prolonged UV from direct sunlight, so it is unsuitable where external appearance matters
  • Cement-based renders and toppings will not bond over it; the film must first be removed by grit blasting, grinding or scabbling
  • Not resistant to oxidising agents (e.g. sodium hypochlorite, sulphur dioxide), concentrated acids, ammonia, animal/vegetable oils and aromatic/ketone/chlorinated solvents
  • Bond can fail on substrates subject to back water pressure or where salts migrate to the interface
  • Subsequent adhesives, resilient flooring or paint require full prior cure plus an approved trial area
  • Film life depends on traffic and reviving coats may be needed over time
  • Supplied in India primarily as a 200-litre drum, which is large for small or trial jobs

Selection & best practice

Apply Concure CR by spray in a single, even coat over freshly finished concrete as soon as the surface bleed water has evaporated — too early and it floats on bleed water, too late and early moisture loss has already occurred. Maintain the 5 m2/litre coverage rate so the dry film reaches at least 35 microns and delivers full water-retention efficiency; mark out areas and measure consumption rather than eyeballing the spray. In hot, dry or windy Indian site conditions, prioritise the earliest practical application to beat plastic shrinkage. Provide cross ventilation and keep all ignition sources away during application because of the xylene solvent and high VOC. Clean tools and equipment with Fosroc Solvent 10. Where a render, screed or topping is planned later, remember the film must be mechanically removed first by grit blasting or grinding. Before applying any adhesive, resilient flooring or paint, ensure the concrete is thoroughly cured and complete a trial area for approval. Store drums sealed in cool, dry, shaded conditions away from heat and flame, and use within the 5-year shelf life. Frequently asked questions

Is Fosroc Concure CR a curing compound or a floor coating?
It is primarily a curing compound, but the chlorinated rubber chemistry means it does both jobs: it retains over 90% of the mix water so concrete cures and gains strength, and it simultaneously seals and hardens the surface, improving dusting and chemical resistance. That dual action is why it is favoured on industrial floors rather than a plain wax-emulsion curing membrane.
How much Concure CR do I need and how is it applied?
Apply it by spray in a single even coat at the recommended 5 m2 per litre, building a dry film of at least 35 microns. So one 200-litre drum theoretically covers about 1,000 m2. Treat that as a theoretical figure — practical coverage is lower because of wastage and surface texture. Spray as soon as the bleed water has evaporated off the fresh slab.
Can I lay tiles, screed or paint over Concure CR later?
Cement-based renders, screeds and toppings will not bond over it — you must first remove the film by grit blasting, grinding or scabbling to create a mechanical key. Certain approved adhesives, resilient flooring and paints can go over it, but only after the concrete is thoroughly cured and a trial area has been completed and approved. Always test first.
Is Concure CR suitable for outdoor or exposed concrete?
It works technically, but it yellows under prolonged UV from direct sunlight, so it is not recommended where external appearance matters. Its best use is internal industrial floors and structural concrete that will see service traffic. For exposed slabs where colour and UV stability are important, a water-based Fosroc Concure WB or a UV-stable resin curing compound is a better choice.
What are the safety and VOC considerations in India?
Concure CR is solvent-based with a xylene carrier and a VOC content of 760 g/litre, so it is flammable and gives off solvent vapour during application. Provide cross ventilation, keep ignition sources away, and use appropriate PPE. The odour disappears once the film is dry. On low-VOC or green-building projects (IGBC/LEED), the high VOC may rule it out — discuss a compliant alternative with Space Arc Engineering.
How does Concure CR compare with Fosroc Concure WB and Concure A?
Concure CR is solvent-based chlorinated rubber that cures plus hardens and resists chemicals, ideal for internal industrial floors. Concure WB is a water-based wax-emulsion curing compound to ASTM C309 — lower VOC and better for general and exposed curing. Concure A is a resin-based dust-proofer/surface hardener with good UV resistance. Choose CR when you specifically want combined curing and surface protection on an internal floor.

How we position Fosroc Concure CR

Within Fosroc’s Concure curing range, Concure CR is the solvent-based chlorinated rubber option chosen when curing must be paired with surface hardening and chemical resistance on internal industrial floors. For lower-VOC or externally exposed work, Fosroc Concure WB (water-based wax emulsion, ASTM C309) is the natural alternative, while Fosroc Concure A is the resin-based, UV-resistant dust-proofer/surface hardener; Fosroc Solvent 10 is the matching cleaner. Against competitor curing compounds and surface hardeners — such as Sika Antisol and Sikafloor surface treatments, MYK Laticrete/MBS curing compounds, Dr. Fixit Pidicure, and STP (Shalimar) curing membranes — Concure CR is positioned on its dual cure-plus-harden chemistry and AS3799-verified 94% water retention rather than on lowest cost; many rival products are water-based curing membranes only and do not deliver the same surface hardening and chemical resistance. The honest trade-off is its high VOC, flammability and UV yellowing, which steer green-building and exposed external projects toward a water-based membrane. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor in Delhi NCR and Pan-India, supplies genuine Concure CR with batch traceability and helps specifiers select between CR, WB and A based on exposure, VOC limits and the floor’s service conditions.
