Conplast CN

Chloride-Free Set Retarding Admixture for Hot Weather Concrete

Authorized Project Distributor — Fosroc India | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad

Product Overview

Conplast CN is a non-chloride concrete set retarding admixture conforming to ASTM C494 Type B (retarding) and Type D (water reducing and retarding) that extends the initial and final setting times of concrete to allow additional time for transporting, placing, and finishing. In hot weather conditions (a daily reality for North Indian summer construction from April to June), concrete can lose workability and set prematurely before it reaches the point of placement, especially for long-haul ready mix deliveries. Conplast CN extends the workable life of the concrete without adding water (which would reduce strength and increase permeability) — maintaining workability for placing and compaction at higher ambient temperature. It is also used in mass concrete pours (large foundations, raft slabs, and dam concrete) to control the rate of heat of hydration and reduce peak temperature, which in turn reduces the risk of thermal cracking in the cooling phase. Conplast CN is compatible with all Portland cements and with superplasticiser admixtures. Space Arc Engineering distributes Conplast CN for ready mix, infrastructure, and hot weather construction projects across Delhi NCR, Ghaziabad, and Northern India.

Applications

  • Hot weather concrete mixing and placing in North Indian summer conditions
  • Long-haul ready mix concrete delivery requiring extended workability window
  • Mass concrete pour heat of hydration control in large raft foundations
  • Concrete placing in remote sites with long transit time from plant
  • Concrete in hot tunnel and underground environments where cooling is limited
  • Base retarder for multi-admixture hot weather concrete mix designs

Key Advantages

  • Non-chloride — safe for reinforced and prestressed concrete
  • ASTM C494 Type B and D compliant retarder
  • Extends workable life without adding water or reducing strength
  • Reduces peak temperature in mass concrete for thermal crack control
  • Compatible with Conplast and Auramix superplasticisers
  • Proven Fosroc admixture for hot weather concrete in India

Frequently Asked Questions

How much can Conplast CN delay concrete setting?

The extent of retardation depends on the dosage of Conplast CN, the cement content, the ambient temperature, and the cement chemistry. At typical dosages, retardation of 2 to 4 hours of initial set can be achieved. At higher dosages, longer retardation is possible but the risk of excessive delay and strength reduction increases. Trial mixes at the actual site temperatures and with the actual cement to be used are essential to calibrate the dosage to achieve the required working time without excessive delay to final set and formwork striking strength.

Can Conplast CN be used in combination with Conplast SP430 superplasticiser?

Yes. Conplast CN and Conplast SP430 (or Auramix PCE superplasticisers) are compatible and are commonly combined in hot weather ready mix concrete — the superplasticiser provides high workability and water reduction, while the retarder extends the workability retention period. Add each admixture separately to the concrete and do not pre-mix them together in concentrated form.

Does Conplast CN affect the final compressive strength of concrete?

At the recommended dosage range for ASTM C494 Type B retardation, Conplast CN should not significantly reduce the 28-day compressive strength of concrete compared to the control mix. However, at very high dosage (over-retardation), strength at early ages is reduced and the rate of strength gain is slowed. Always establish the maximum acceptable dosage by trial mix and check 28-day strength before committing to production.
