Fosroc Conplast MR260
A chloride-free, multi-range water-reducing admixture that performs as a plasticiser at low dosage and a superplasticiser at higher dosage — one product for ready-mix consistency control, mass concrete and pumped placements.
What is it?
A chloride-free liquid concrete admixture based on a blend of synthetic and natural polymers that reduces mixing water and controls workability. It is dual-acting: a conventional plasticiser at low dosage and a high-range water reducer (superplasticiser) at higher dosage.
Where is it used?
Ready-mixed concrete plants, mass concrete (vibrated and roller-compacted), pumped concrete, and reinforced or pre-stressed elements where chloride-free admixtures are mandatory — across building, infrastructure and water-retaining structures.
Why use it?
It lets a single product cover multiple consistency classes without changing the cement or aggregate proportions, holds workability over time for transit and pumping, and lowers the water/cement ratio to raise strength and durability.
How is it applied?
Dosed as a liquid into the mixing water or directly into the mixer at the same time as the water, at a trial-established rate of roughly 0.3–1.1 litres per 100 kg of cementitious material. It is never added to dry cement or aggregates.
About Fosroc Conplast MR260
Fosroc Conplast MR260 is a multi-range, water-reducing plasticising admixture for concrete, formulated from a blend of synthetic and natural polymers. It belongs to Fosroc’s well-established Conplast family of admixtures and is supplied as a water-based, non-flammable liquid. The defining feature of MR260 is its dual capability: at lower addition rates it behaves as a normal plasticiser (water reducer), while at higher addition rates the same product delivers superplasticiser-level water reduction and flow. This gives a concrete producer one inventory line that can be tuned across several consistency classes rather than stocking separate plasticiser and superplasticiser products.
The admixture is chloride-free, which makes it suitable for reinforced and pre-stressed concrete where chloride-induced corrosion of steel is a design concern — a requirement that is effectively non-negotiable on Indian RCC and PSC work governed by IS 456 and IS 1343. It complies with EN 934-2 as a water-reducer/plasticiser and is intended to be used with concrete designed to recognised mix-design practice. Because the water reduction it provides lowers the water/cement ratio, MR260 is positioned not only as a workability aid but as a durability tool: lower w/c means lower permeability, which in turn improves resistance to chloride and sulphate ingress, freeze-thaw cycling and general weathering.
For Indian projects, MR260 sits alongside the more familiar Conplast SP-series superplasticisers (such as SP430) and the WL/WP integral admixtures. Its niche is the producer who wants consistency control and water reduction from a single, flexible, chloride-free product — particularly ready-mix operations supplying a range of grades, and mass-concrete pours where workability retention and pumpability matter more than ultra-high early strength. Space Arc Engineering supplies and advises on the full Conplast range across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.
The technical insight
The behaviour of MR260 is best understood through the water/cement ratio. Most of concrete’s strength, permeability and durability are governed by w/c: at a fixed cement content, every reduction in mixing water raises compressive strength and cuts the capillary porosity that lets water, chlorides and sulphates migrate to the reinforcement. A multi-range plasticiser like MR260 disperses cement grains so that the same workability is achieved with less water — or, conversely, far greater workability is achieved at the same water content. The “multi-range” character means the engineer chooses which benefit to bank: hold workability constant and cut water (for strength/durability), or hold water constant and increase flow (for placement and pumping). Practically, this is a dosage decision — the lower end of the 0.3–1.1 L/100 kg cementitious band gives plasticiser-grade reduction, the upper end approaches superplasticiser performance. Because the polymer blend includes natural polymers, MR260 tends to give good workability retention, which is the property that actually fails first in hot-weather Indian ready-mix logistics, where slump can be lost in transit before discharge. The chloride-free formulation removes any contribution to the total chloride budget of the mix, leaving more of the IS 456 chloride limit available for aggregates and water — an underrated benefit on marine and coastal structures.
Where it is used
- Ready-mixed concrete where a single admixture must serve several consistency/slump classes without re-proportioning aggregates or cement
- Mass concrete — both vibrated and roller-compacted — where controlled workability and low water content limit thermal and shrinkage cracking
- Pumped concrete requiring sustained workability and cohesion from batching plant to point of placement
- Reinforced concrete (RCC) where a chloride-free water reducer is mandatory to protect embedded steel
- Pre-stressed concrete (PSC) elements where chloride contamination of high-tensile strands must be avoided
- Low-permeability, durable concrete for water-retaining structures, foundations and substructures exposed to aggressive ground
- Concrete supplied to multiple grades from one plant, where reducing the number of admixture SKUs simplifies QC
Key advantages
- Multi-range action — one product behaves as a plasticiser at low dosage and a superplasticiser at higher dosage, reducing inventory and simplifying batching
- Chloride-free, so it is safe for reinforced and pre-stressed concrete and does not consume the mix’s chloride allowance
- Good workability retention from the synthetic/natural polymer blend, valuable for transit time and pumping in hot Indian conditions
- Lowers water/cement ratio, increasing compressive strength and cutting permeability for better durability
- Improves freeze-thaw resistance and overall mechanical performance through denser, lower-w/c concrete
- Maintains consistency without adding water, so target strength is preserved
- Compatible with other Fosroc admixtures in the same mix (added separately, not pre-blended)
- Water-based and non-flammable, easing on-site storage and handling
Limitations & considerations
- Optimum dosage must be established by site trials with the actual cement, SCMs and aggregates — the 0.3–1.1 L/100 kg range is a starting point, not a fixed value
- Overdosing can cause excessive retardation, bleeding or segregation; dosage discipline at the plant is essential
- Performance varies with cement chemistry, ambient temperature and mix design, so results from one mix do not automatically transfer to another
- Must be added to the mixing water or with the water — adding to dry materials or pre-mixing with other admixtures reduces effectiveness
- Being water-based, it is sensitive to freezing; the cold-climate variant has a freezing point around -3 °C and frozen material must be reconditioned per Fosroc guidance before use
- Exact specific gravity, colour and pack sizes are region/variant specific and must be confirmed against the current local datasheet for the supplied grade
- It is a water reducer/plasticiser, not a substitute for sound mix design, curing or cover — durability still depends on good practice
Selection & best practice
Always begin with laboratory and field trials using the project’s own cement, supplementary cementitious materials (fly ash, slag, microsilica) and aggregates to fix the dosage for the target consistency and strength, starting near 0.3 L/100 kg of cementitious material for plasticiser-grade reduction and moving up toward 1.1 L/100 kg for superplasticiser-grade flow. Dispense MR260 by calibrated dispenser into the mixing water or into the mixer at the same time as the water — never onto dry cement or aggregate, and never pre-mixed with another admixture (where two Fosroc admixtures are used, add them separately). Recheck dosage when ambient temperature, cement source or pour logistics change, and verify total chloride and total admixture content against IS 456 limits. Store containers closed, in shade, away from frost, and confirm shelf life and reconditioning instructions on the current local datasheet before use.

Industry use cases
Ready-mix concrete (RMC)
A commercial RMC plant supplying multiple grades uses MR260 as a single multi-range admixture to hit different slump classes without re-proportioning, while holding workability across transit time to distant Delhi NCR sites.
Infrastructure & mass concrete
In large foundation rafts, dam sections and roller-compacted concrete, MR260’s water reduction limits heat-of-hydration cracking and produces a low-permeability, durable mass with controlled workability for placement.
Marine & coastal RCC/PSC
Because it is chloride-free, MR260 is specified for reinforced and pre-stressed elements near the coast, where every contribution to the total chloride budget must be minimised to protect steel from corrosion.
Pumped high-rise concrete
For pumped placements in tall buildings, the polymer blend sustains workability and cohesion from plant to pump line, reducing blockages and the temptation to add water on site.
Water-retaining & substructure works
In tanks, basements and foundations exposed to aggressive groundwater, the lower w/c achievable with MR260 cuts permeability and improves resistance to sulphate and chloride ingress.

How we position Fosroc Conplast MR260
Within Fosroc’s admixture range, Conplast MR260 occupies the middle ground between a basic plasticiser and a dedicated superplasticiser — it is the flexible, single-SKU choice for ready-mix producers and mass-concrete pours that need chloride-free water reduction across several consistency classes. Where the priority shifts to high early strength and maximum water reduction, Fosroc’s Conplast SP430 (already documented on our site) is the more focused option, and for cold-weather plasticising the related Conplast MR276/MR285 variants apply; for integral waterproofing the Conplast WL/WP and X421 lines are the right complements rather than substitutes. Against the wider market, credible alternatives a specifier may evaluate include Sika’s Sikament/SikaPlast and ViscoCrete plasticiser-superplasticisers, BASF/Master Builders Solutions MasterPolyheed and MasterGlenium multi-range admixtures, and — for integral waterproofing rather than primary water reduction — Dr. Fixit and STP (Pidilite/Sika group) products. MR260’s distinct pitch is the combination of multi-range dosage flexibility, chloride-free safety for RCC/PSC, and good workability retention, which suits Indian hot-weather ready-mix logistics. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering supplies MR260 and the full Conplast range with mix-design and trial support across Delhi NCR and Pan-India; final grade selection, specific gravity, pack sizes and exact dosage should always be confirmed against the current local datasheet for the variant supplied.
