Fosroc Conplast SP2000
Chloride-free, high-range water-reducing superplasticiser for high-strength, high-workability concrete — conforming to BS 5075, BS EN 934-2 and ASTM C494 Type G.
What is it?
A chloride-free superplasticising (high-range water-reducing) concrete admixture based on selected synthetic and organic polymers, supplied as a brown liquid with a specific gravity of 1.22 at 25°C.
Where is it used?
Ready-mix and site-batched structural concrete, precast and prestressed elements, high-strength grades, pumped and flowing concrete, and hot-weather pours where extended workability retention is required.
Why use it?
It delivers very high water reduction so you can reach high strengths without raising cement content, while holding workability longer than melamine- or naphthalene-based admixtures and reducing segregation, bleeding and pumping problems.
How is it applied?
Dosed by volume into the gauging water or wet mix at the batching plant or truck mixer at a trial-established rate, then mixed thoroughly; it is never added to dry cement or aggregate.
About Fosroc Conplast SP2000
Fosroc Conplast SP2000 is a chloride-free superplasticising admixture formulated from selected synthetic and organic polymers. Its job in the mix is straightforward but powerful: it disperses the fine cement particles that would otherwise clump together, freeing up the mixing water so it works far more effectively. The practical result is that a concrete producer can take one of two routes — keep the water-cement ratio fixed and gain a large jump in flow and workability, or hold workability constant and strip out a substantial amount of water to drive up strength and durability. Because the water reduction achievable is high, designers can reach demanding strength grades without inflating cement content, which helps both cost and the heat-of-hydration profile of the pour.
Conplast SP2000 sits in Fosroc’s Conplast superplasticiser family alongside products such as Conplast SP430. It is positioned as a workhorse high-range water reducer for general structural and precast work where reliable workability retention and clean, cohesive concrete matter more than the very fast early strength of a specialised high-early-strength grade. The admixture is chloride-free, so it is safe to use in reinforced, precast and prestressed concrete where chloride-induced corrosion of steel is a concern. It conforms to BS 5075, BS EN 934-2 and ASTM C494, where it is classified as a Type G admixture — a water-reducing, retarding superplasticiser. That classification tells the specifier two things at once: expect high water reduction, and expect some set retardation as part of the package, which is generally a benefit in Indian conditions where ambient temperatures push concrete to stiffen quickly.
For contractors and ready-mix producers across Delhi NCR and the rest of India, the appeal is the combination of pumpability, reduced segregation and bleeding, and the ability to maintain higher slump for longer during transit and placement. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering supplies Conplast SP2000 with batch documentation and technical back-up so the product reaches site as specified.
The technical insight
Conplast SP2000 works by electrostatic and steric dispersion of cement grains. In an untreated mix, fine cement particles flocculate and trap water inside the clusters, leaving less free water to lubricate the mix; the polymer adsorbs onto the cement surface, the particles repel one another, and that trapped water is released. This is why the admixture lets you cut water sharply at a given workability — the classic lever for higher strength and a denser, lower-permeability matrix. Its ASTM C494 Type G classification is the key technical signal for specifiers: it is a high-range water reducer that also retards set. The retardation is dosage-sensitive, so the optimum rate must be established by trial mixes using the actual cement, supplementary cementitious materials, aggregates and target temperature, rather than copied from a generic figure. Verified physical properties include a specific gravity of 1.22 at 25°C, a brown liquid appearance, nil chloride content to BS 5075 / BS EN 934, and less than 2% additional entrained air at normal dosages — meaning it is not an air-entraining admixture and will not materially alter the air content of the design. Because workability retention outlasts older melamine and naphthalene sulphonate technologies, it is well suited to long-haul ready-mix and pumped placements.
Where it is used
- High-strength structural concrete where high water reduction is needed without raising cement content
- Precast and prestressed concrete elements requiring a chloride-free admixture
- Ready-mixed concrete needing extended workability retention over long transit and placement times
- Pumped concrete and flowing concrete where cohesion and reduced segregation are critical
- Hot-weather concreting where the Type G retarding action helps control rapid slump loss
- High-rise, infrastructure and water-retaining structures where low permeability and durability are design priorities
Key advantages
- Chloride-free — safe for reinforced, precast and prestressed concrete with embedded steel
- Very high water reduction enables high-strength concrete without excessive cement content
- Maintains higher workability for longer than sulphonated melamine and naphthalene admixtures
- Improves cohesion and particle dispersion, minimising segregation and bleeding
- Enhances pumpability, supporting long pumping runs and placement in congested sections
- Less than 2% additional air entrained at normal dosages, so air content stays predictable
- Independently classified to BS 5075, BS EN 934-2 and ASTM C494 Type G
- 12-month shelf life simplifies stock-holding for distributors and large sites
Limitations & considerations
- Type G classification means it retards set; over-dosing can excessively delay strength gain, especially in cooler conditions
- Optimum dosage must be established by site trial mixes — it cannot be reliably copied from another mix or cement
- Liquid requires recirculation (about 10 minutes once a day) to prevent settlement and keep it homogeneous
- Must be stored between 2°C and 50°C; freezing or prolonged heat can affect the product
- Not an air-entraining admixture — a separate air entrainer is needed where freeze-thaw resistance demands controlled air
- Performance varies with cement chemistry and SCMs, so compatibility checks are essential before bulk use
- Not a waterproofing or accelerating admixture; the wrong product choice for those duties
Selection & best practice
Always run trial mixes with the project’s actual cement, supplementary cementitious materials, aggregates and expected pour temperature to fix the optimum dosage before bulk supply. Add Conplast SP2000 to the gauging water or to the wet mix — never onto dry cement or aggregate — and continue mixing to disperse it fully. Recirculate the storage tank for about 10 minutes once a day to keep the product homogeneous, and keep storage between 2°C and 50°C. Where high water reduction and high slump are both targeted, watch for retardation in cooler weather and adjust dosage accordingly. For freeze-thaw exposure, pair it with a dedicated air-entraining admixture rather than relying on the small incidental air this product introduces. Confirm compatibility before combining it with other admixtures, and dispense through calibrated equipment for consistent batch-to-batch results.

How we position Fosroc Conplast SP2000
Within Fosroc’s range, Conplast SP2000 is the choice when you need high water reduction with long workability retention and a clean, cohesive, pumpable mix, rather than the very fast early strength offered by Conplast SP430 or the general-purpose, lighter water reduction of plasticisers such as Conplast MR260/MR285. It naturally complements other Fosroc concrete products on a project — for example Renderoc repair mortars, Conbextra grouts and Nitobond bonding agents — and Conplast curing compounds where curing protection is also specified. Against the wider market, credible alternatives in the same high-range water-reducer space include Sika ViscoCrete and Sika Plast superplasticisers, BASF/Master Builders Solutions MasterGlenium, and Fet/Dr. Fixit and STP (Pidilite) admixture lines, while products like Dr. Fixit Pidiproof are integral waterproofing admixtures aimed at a different duty. For corrosion-critical, high-strength structural and precast work where chloride-free certification and proven BS/EN/ASTM compliance are required, Conplast SP2000 remains a well-established, specification-friendly option, and Space Arc Engineering supplies it with genuine-product assurance and trial-mix support across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.
