Fosroc Conplast WP100E
A high-performance integral permeability-reducing admixture that builds waterproofing into the concrete itself — durable protection that survives even when the surface is damaged.
What is it?
Conplast WP100E is a Fosroc liquid admixture classed as a high-performance permeability reducer. Dosed into the mix water, it lowers the water-cement ratio and densifies the concrete matrix so that waterproofing becomes an integral property of the hardened concrete rather than a surface treatment.
Where is it used?
Used in waterproof, structural and precast concrete — basement rafts and retaining walls, water-retaining structures, podiums, roof slabs, sumps, precast elements and other reinforced sections where long-term water-tightness and durability are required.
Why use it?
Because the protection is built into the concrete body, it is not lost if the surface is abraded, punctured or cracked locally, unlike applied films and coatings. The lower water-cement ratio also raises compressive strength at the same workability, and the product contains no bitumen.
How is it applied?
Added to the gauging water and batched with the concrete — no separate membrane application step. It can be used on its own or alongside other products in the Conplast range for a combined admixture strategy, and is compatible with certain Fosroc surface coatings and finishes.
About Fosroc Conplast WP100E
Conplast WP100E is part of Fosroc’s long-established Conplast family of concrete admixtures and is officially described by Fosroc as a high-performance permeability reducer. For Indian specifiers it sits in the integral (mass) waterproofing category — the approach where water-tightness is engineered into the concrete during batching rather than added afterwards as a membrane or coating.
The distinction matters on site. India’s older “waterproofing compounds” — and Fosroc’s own pore-blocking powders such as Conplast WP90 and WP100 — work largely by filling the natural capillary pores in the matrix to slow moisture movement. WP100E takes a different and more modern route: it functions primarily as a water-reducing permeability reducer. By allowing the concrete to be placed at a lower water-cement ratio for the same workability, it cuts the volume of capillary pore network that forms as excess mix water evaporates. Less interconnected porosity means fewer pathways for water and water-borne aggressive ions to travel through the section, so the concrete is both more watertight and more durable.
A defining advantage Fosroc highlights is that integral protection is maintained even if surface damage occurs. A bituminous coating or a sheet membrane is only as good as its weakest point — a single tear, blister, lap failure or post-construction service penetration can let water track behind it for metres. WP100E has no such weak interface because the resistance lives in the concrete body itself. It also does not incorporate bitumen, which keeps it compatible with subsequent finishes and avoids the staining and ageing issues associated with bituminous systems.
In Indian construction this is well suited to below-ground and water-retaining work — basement rafts and walls in the high-water-table belts of Delhi NCR, Mumbai and the coastal cities, STP and WTP tanks, lift pits, podium decks and precast yards. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor serving Delhi NCR and Pan-India, positions WP100E for projects where a durable, maintenance-light, fully integral solution is preferred over film-based protection, and where the design team wants the strength and durability dividend of a reduced water-cement ratio at no cost to workability.
The technical insight
The core mechanism of Conplast WP100E is water reduction, not pore plugging. Concrete needs only about a 0.22–0.25 water-cement ratio to fully hydrate cement; any water added beyond that — typically to gain workability on site — eventually leaves the matrix and leaves behind interconnected capillary voids. Those voids, not the gel pores, are the highways for water ingress, chloride and sulphate attack. By acting as a water-reducing admixture, WP100E lets the placing crew keep the same slump while removing a portion of that surplus water, so the hardened concrete forms with a finer, more discontinuous pore structure. This is why Fosroc can state that the lower water-cement ratio improves compressive strength at the same workability — the two benefits (lower permeability and higher strength) come from the same reduction in mix water. Because the effect is volumetric and integral, it is robust to local surface damage, and because the chemistry is bitumen-free it remains compatible with certain Fosroc surface coatings, allowing a belt-and-braces specification where the concrete is densified internally and additionally protected externally. As with any structural admixture, the realistic dosage should be established by trial mixes against the specific cement, aggregates and target slump rather than assumed.
Where it is used
- Basement rafts, retaining walls and substructure slabs in high-water-table zones
- Water-retaining structures — water tanks, reservoirs, STP/ETP/WTP tanks and channels
- Precast concrete elements requiring built-in durability and water-tightness
- Structural concrete where reduced permeability and higher strength are both specified
- Roof slabs, podium decks and terraces requiring integral protection
- Lift pits, sumps, foundation pits and other below-ground wet areas
- Marine and coastal structures exposed to water-borne chlorides and aggressive ions
- Use in combination with other Conplast admixtures as part of a wider mix-design strategy
Key advantages
- Integral protection is maintained even if the surface is later damaged, abraded or penetrated — unlike applied films and coatings (Fosroc-stated)
- Lower water-cement ratio improves compressive strength at the same workability (Fosroc-stated)
- Does not incorporate bitumen, avoiding staining, ageing and compatibility problems (Fosroc-stated)
- Fully compatible with certain Fosroc surface coatings and finishes, enabling combined internal-plus-external protection (Fosroc-stated)
- Can be used on its own or alongside other Conplast range products for waterproof, structural and precast concrete (Fosroc-stated)
- No separate membrane application stage — reduces dependence on applicator workmanship and removes a critical-path activity
- Backed by Fosroc’s global technical support and Space Arc Engineering’s local Delhi NCR / Pan-India distribution and site assistance
Limitations & considerations
- It is a permeability reducer that increases water-tightness — it does not turn structurally cracked or honeycombed concrete into a waterproof element; sound mix design, cover and crack control remain essential
- Integral admixtures cannot bridge moving cracks or construction/expansion joints, which still require purpose-made waterstops, joint sealants or membranes
- Performance depends on correct dosage, thorough mixing and good compaction and curing — poor site practice will undermine the benefit
- Exact dosage, specific gravity, chloride content and compliance figures should be confirmed against the current regional Fosroc technical data sheet and verified by trial mixes for the specific materials
- Published WP100E datasheets are issued region-by-region (e.g. Egypt / Middle East); the India-specific sheet and any IS 2645 / IS 9103 positioning should be confirmed with Fosroc India or Space Arc Engineering before specification
- Not a substitute for a tanking/membrane system where the design code or client mandates an external barrier — in such cases use it as the integral component within a combined specification
Selection & best practice
Treat WP100E as one element of a durability-by-design approach, not a stand-alone fix. Establish the working dosage by trial mixes with the actual project cement, aggregates and admixtures, targeting the design slump at the lowest practical water-cement ratio. Add it to the gauging water (never to dry cement) and mix thoroughly to disperse it evenly. Maintain good cover to reinforcement, full compaction and disciplined wet curing — the dense low-permeability matrix only develops if the concrete is properly cured. Detail all joints, penetrations and movement points with appropriate waterstops and sealants, and where the specification calls for it, overcoat with a compatible Fosroc surface coating for a combined internal-plus-external system. Always work from the latest regional technical data sheet and the MSDS.

How we position Fosroc Conplast WP100E
Within the Fosroc range, Conplast WP100E is the liquid, water-reducing end of the integral waterproofing family. It is the more advanced sibling to the traditional pore-blocking powders Conplast WP90 and Conplast WP100, and to the liquid integral admixture Conplast WL / WL Xtra; for crystalline self-sealing behaviour Fosroc offers Conplast Crystalline, and Conplast WP200 is the closely related higher-grade permeability reducer. Choose WP100E when you want integral protection plus the strength dividend of a reduced water-cement ratio, and where bitumen-free, coating-compatible chemistry matters. For surface or external protection it is typically paired with a compatible Fosroc coating rather than competing with one. Against the wider Indian market, integral-waterproofing alternatives include Sika WT-200 P / Sika-1, MBS (MC-Bauchemie) integral admixtures, Dr. Fixit Pidiproof LW+ and crystalline systems, and STP (Pidilite/STP Ltd) integral waterproofers. Honest guidance: WP100E competes well where a durable, maintenance-light, fully integral solution backed by Fosroc’s technical support and Space Arc Engineering’s local distribution is wanted; for purely surface defects, coatings or membranes (Fosroc, Dr. Fixit or Sika) remain the right tool, and for active joints a dedicated waterstop or sealant is always required regardless of admixture choice.
